I used to come here all the time since I was in this area a lot. This place is my safe zone! Sure the atmosphere is a bit nasty/hole-in-the wall restaurant but I still thinks it is adorable. It is a two man show here. Not a Ma’s & Pop’s but a Pop’s & Pop’s restaurant. The waiter seems very«quiet» but I think it’s just his old-school ways. Oh and on Friday’s there is a live band, with men that sings Hawaiian songs while playing on their ukulele, reminds me of Hawaii all over again. What I always ordered here is their salmon skin roll, I like mines extra crispy, and they always get it right. The hanger steak with garlic chips are mouth watering! And they offer free ice crème at the end of our meals… I always picked the yummy green tea! So if you can ignored the rugged atmosphere give this place a try!

I usually avoid beef teriyaki at most Japanese restaurants because the meat is usually tough, chewy. But, the beef teriyaki here is so tender and delicious. I order it every time I come here. Okay, enough about the beef teriyaki. The chicken karaage is also quite good here, but there are a lot of restaurants around town that make it well. The sashimi is fresh. I usually stick with salmon. I always get the combination dinner which allows you to select 3 items from the menu list. And, it comes with miso soup, salad and ice cream. This place is also very reasonably priced. Sometimes you wonder how some of these Japanese establishments are able to keep their costs so low. It’s probably best not to think about it too much, and just enjoy the food. The place is not the cleanest, but it also isn’t the dirtiest I’ve seen. As long as I don’t smell anything funny or see tiny shadows darting across the floors out of the corner of my eye, then I am usually okay with the place. And, so far, this place passes on both counts. They also have live music on Friday nights. Okay, it’s basically a bunch of dudes sitting around the dining tables playing guitars and ukeleles. It looks casual enough that they probably wouldn’t mind if you brought your guitar over and jammed with them. The place is not huge, so don’t expect to have a good conversation over the music. To sum up, good food at very reasonable prices, average cleanliness and live music on Friday nights.

The food is good but it was hard to enjoy the meal. First of all, the Waiter cleans the table with rag, which is fine, but the tables need a good scrubbing not just wipe. It looks like the tables have not been washed in years– That is a deal breaker for me. The windows need washed, the walls need scrubbed and the floors need vacuumed. It just felt too dirty for a place serving food. They have up on the wall 97 which is a score that restaurants receive for overall cleanliness. There is no way this place has a 97. Come on Miyoshi Sushi Grill, clean the place up a bit and I can guarantee the place will be packed with people for lunch and dinner. There are too many other Sushi restaurants in SF to go to that are clean. Fix yourselves up a bit-the food is good but thats not enough anymore.

This place is one of my most favorite places in my neighborhood. Been coming here for the last 5 years and I always get my usual(Beef teriyaki!!!). I have been to many Japanese restaurants, but no one has a BEEFTERIYAKI like them(honest to god)!!! I cant’t say the same about the sushi that they serve never tried it. The service is slow(family owned and only 2 people works there), but I am used to it. The food is good, so I keep coming here no matter what.

I did not like this place. When tuna and salmon sashimi come to your table, you should know the difference between the two just by color alone. It’s not a red-orange color for EITHER tuna OR salmon. Really… wtf? I was just shocked. After I saw that, I lost my appetite. Maybe the bentos are better but I rather not find out. And btw, the tables were sticky. That’s the first sign of a red alert.

This is a long overdue review! I’ve been coming here for almost 10yrs. It gets five stars for their teriyaki beef alone. My significant other always always compares a Japanese restaurant’s teriyaki beef to the one we always get here at Miyoshi. Huge,(very) tender, juicy and flavorful pieces of beef. My personal favorite is their chicken kara age — fried chicken thigh pieces drenched in a light ginger/soy/dashi/magical sauce that is so good and very distinct to Miyoshi(have not been able to find anywhere else). Yes, I will admit I live in the neighborhood and this is my neighborhood dive. And yes, there have been a couple occasions of less than par cleanliness and or service. Yet, I return again and again. Even after moving out of the city, every time I return home — I make an effort to come here for at least one meal. Lovely live Hawaiian music on fridays! HIGHLY recommend the Beef Teriyaki ANDOR Chicken Kara Age!!! This place is good for their Japanese food, not so much for their sushi(there’s so many other places in SF with much much better sushi — don’t come here expecting that kind of sushi). Please give this place a chance! I’m sure you won’t leave disappointed: D

This place was great I stopped by yesterday for a dragon roll and Sashimi to go. Place is very much a hole in the wall but has that local pub/grandma’s basement kinda feel to it. I felt like I was having someone cook in their kitchen for me not at a restaurant. I was really surprised the dragon roll actually had a giant piece of tempura that was o so delicious and crunchy was so good much more flavor than a lot of places i’ve been lately and there was tons of Sashimi one I don’t think I’ve tried before which was delicious. Will definitely come here again, and get it to go. I found it funny cause there was a sign that said Hawaiian music 6 – 8 on Fridays I’m kinda curious what kinda crowd it would be.

The raw salmon melts like butter in your mouth! But inside the restaurant is HELLA dirty. I try to overlook this because the sushi is the best I’ve ever had.

This restaurant was do much better and busier when it was Clement Okazu-Ya. Ever since the owner(James) parted from that group and changed to Miyoshi things have definitely went down. As many commented, place feels dirtier. This is because James does not hire a waiter or waitress anymore. Instead he had his brother work, and he has a development problem such that he presents the unfriendly expression that turns patrons off. On top of that I felt James as developed a more uncaring attitude as time passed. Too bad.

Yuck Unilocal overrated this place Service was slow. rolls weren’t tightly rolled, soup didnt taste all that great. Kind of dreary and depressing place Place needs new lighting and cleaner bathrooms .felt like the 90’s. Would not go back btw I hate when Unilocalers say a place is a local/neighborhood dive. it just means the place is sub standard by regular means.

I was so sad to see that this place only has 3 stars!!! I hesitated even writing a Unilocal review for a long time because I didn’t want others knowing about this lovely spot! Ok, I’ll admit it, the one and only server isn’t all that appealing. He’s a grandpa figure, who barely talks but the food makes up for everything. They have the BEST beef teriyaki here! The lunch and dinner combos are yummy AND cheap, and they give you a little bit of everything including ice cream(during dinner). Yeah, the décor isn’t great, but seriously, everyone knows the hole-in-the-wall places are ALWAYS better than the fancy smancy stuff. Even if you only try one thing, please try the beef teriyaki. You won’t be disappointed.

Just went back again and I’m a fan. Ordered Saba Shioyaki(grilled salty mackerel) and the Pork catsu(deep fried breaded cutlet) They start you with a bowl of miso soup that is not too salty, pretty darn good I’d say. I’m picky about my miso soup too. Comes neatly packaged in a cool bento box. The fish was cooked just right and it tasted good: meaty and salty. The catsu was deep fried perfectly and the cutlet was good sized. A side salad of shaved coleslaw with some mayo dressing was tastey. The rice was sweet, moist and nourishing. And you get two pan fried pot stickers that are merely ok. Miyoshi, if you are reading this, the quality and amount of food is generous; save your cash on the pot stickers. $ 7.75 is a very good deal for just made food; how do they make any money? Thanks MIyoshi! Customer service: ok, could be warmer, the attendant does not talk much. I bet he’d talk more, if they charged the going rate of $ 10.95 for this quality food. Décor: plain. You come here for the food.

HALF pitiful star for you miyoshi. why? first off, it was the lone waiter who didn’t speak much and has a diminished facial expression. the vibe was so unwelcoming and cold. second, the loosely rolled of sushi rolls that kept falling apart everytime i picked it up with the chopsticks, the greasy gyoza left a good tiny puddle of canola oil on the dish and the fishy, all-minced up soft shell crab that was made so wrong. third, the out-dated huge track lights that are covered with thick dust, dull colored walls and pictures hanging on that boring walls were faded. and fourth, the not so clean and smelly toilets. moreover, they have these sushi rolls dollar special on wednesday nights, which i think are truly dreadful. eek! methinks NOT!

The first time Unilocal has failed us. We came here based on all those stars, and the place is a little sad. I’ll say with considerable restraint that it could use a «woman’s touch».(shhh…DIRTY!) We ordered some sushi, which was not a great idea. Very mediocre, and if my scallop is going to be chopped up with mayonnaise, i want to know about it ahead of time. It looked like they might specialize in grilled fish and meat/robata, which isn’t what we ordered. Udon wasn’t bad. The best part of the meal was commiserating with the 2 gentlemen running the place(1 cook, 1 waiter) about how insane the financial news on the TV was looking(biggest Exxon profits vs. foreclosures and decreased financial aid for students). Probably wouldn’t go back just for that, though.

for what it is… I love it. You can’t expect the moon on a stick for a buck. Eat your cheap sushi. Drink your beer. Be thrilled that you got out of there with a full belly and a full wallet. We went for a friends birthday, drank too many large Asahis to count, ate until we wanted to vom(with plenty of sushi still on our plates)… and it cost about 20 bucks each. I could easily drink and eat my fill for a tenner here. Hooray for Wednesday happyhour.

This is my go-to place. Always. If I’m ever in the mood for something home and traditional, this is where I’d like to be. Now not to say that I’m not a food connoisseur, but I always go with the chicken katsu. Yea yea, it’s a pretty common dish, but its always excellent to me. The restaurant itself is a very very cozy place, small and quaint, echoing a small japanese shop you’d find in, uh, Japan. It’s not exactly well lit with fancy lights, but who cares, you know? The service is sort of interesting because there is only one waiter, server, order taker. And that’s Fred. He’s sort a quiet guy, but he’s real nice. This is a two man show, with the cook in the back, fred, and maybe some dude in the back, but otherwise thats it. Though it may not seem like a cadre of servers at your beckoning, the serving is actually surprisingly fast for such a small team. I’d recommend this place to anyone looking for a really authentic japanese flavor in their food.

I’ve been going here for more than 10 years and there are no complaints. Customer Service: The guys who own the place appear all cold stone face but are seriously super nice. They’re just Asian. Asian people don’t give cherry, fake smiles. Still, the waiter Fred will surely provide great service if you’re polite to him. Food: I love it! I’ve never experienced food that wasn’t fresh or was old. It is tasty enough for me to keep going back. Prices: I think it is decent for Japanese food. If you want it to be cheaper, than you’re a cheap @ss and should cook @ home to save money. Parking: Ok, this is a bit tougher. Try coming at night for a better chance at parking.

Note to self: Always read the Unilocal reviews before trying a new sushi restaurant. This place is close to work so I walked there this afternoon. I got 2 rolls for take-out. A salmon maki, and a dynamite(spicy hamachi/avocado/cucumber). Cheap– total bill was $ 9.50. I started walking back to work and noticed a fishy smell coming from my bag. That’s not a good sign. When I opened my container I saw that all of the pieces of sushi rolls had fallen apart. No biggie I guess… The salmon maki was so-so, but the Hamachi was so not fresh. There were a lot of dark pieces of fish in there… I couldn’t eat it. It wasn’t too fishy, but it was pretty gross. I spit it out into a napkin. Would I go back? Hell No. I will let you know if I get sick!

This was hands down the worst sushi that I’ve ever had outside of a grocery store in Texas. The fish tastes days old, and even the unagi was bad. I’ve had prepackaged unagi that was better! I had their rainbow roll. Don’t bother. It was underwhelming. I figured that you can’t go wrong with an udon noodle bowl. Evidently you can. The udon was so bland that I had to make myself choke it down. My fiancée couldn’t even make herself eat hers. I figured that I might as well since we were paying for it anyway. We really should have eaten at home, and you should too if you’re considering Miyoshi Sushi. Just skip it. There are 1000 sushi shops in this city. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. I’m going to go brush my teeth. Ick!

W A R N I N G ! R E D A L E R T ! D A N G E R O U S ! This is the worst Sushi that I have ever known! It was shocking. It was incredibly ridiculous to see a restaurant like this. Even there is a happy hour 5 to 8 pm, Nigiri $ 1.- for 2! 100% Chinese. When I saw the Nigiri, I knew right then It’s a piece of Shit-Sushi. When I picked up the Nigiri, the rice fell off ! ??? Ohhhhhh! But, I decided to eat this shit. I could taste the cheap sushi-rice-mixture that you can buy at J or Korean Market. And more, Rice was half-cooked, cheap medum grain rice! I said to myself, «This is Fxxxed-up. This guy is Fxxxin’ me so good. This sushi is way over my head!» It was last night, a little after 8. After I parked my car right by the restaurant, I saw a homeless woman urinating right on Clement Street. In the standing position. And she smiled at me! I tried not to look but I did and I tried so hard to keep calm walking toward the restaurant entry door. But, Right by the door, there is another homeless guy sleeping! The door way smelled like shit. I should turn back right then. Instead, I walked right in. Fxxx! It’s dirty, creepy inside and sticky table. What else? Roaches! Sucked big time. I think I’ve never learned by the mistake I made before. I am such a dumb ass! Help me God. I want to live again! Take me back to where I belong. I really don’t know how this guy make the business going. By the way, This place was«Clement St Okazu-ya» before. and still uses Okazuya menu. I think there are few«OKAZUYA» in town. Owned by Chinese? No offense but This is not right. You Do Sushi Totally Wrong! Well, I have to say, You Do Japanese Wrong! I don’t even want to try your deep fried stuff. I can tell it’s too oily P.S. Clement St is becoming quite a place.
