We are at the bar and had a great time during happy hour. Our waitress was on top of it ensuring my drink was full. I will definitely will be going back. Oh and I forgot to tell you, the tip is included in the price. I hope more restaurants got to this!

Great food and service! Had salmon with vegetable sides and it was all done right. The sunset view across Puget Sound was nice. A little pricey, but worth a stop.

The ambience is a bit dated and boring. The view are meh for a place on the waterfront. The service is average. Ate here alone and sat at the bar… the drinks were way overpriced, even considering the location. That being said, the bacon wrapped halibut was pretty amazing. Overall, great fresh fish(not sure about the rest of the menu) at an average place.

A restaurant option with views of the water. This is a cozy place that has many seafood options. In Seattle, you’ll see a lot of Ivar’s. They even have one at Seattle International. This is more of a sit down than casual place like most others. I’m not a strict vegetarian, so when I get any type of meat option, it’s usually seafood and it’s when I’m traveling. I gotta have the whole locals experience! And I will make the rare exception only if it’s really worth the indulge. And let me tell ya, I made the right choice here! 5 stars — Fish and chips. Cod was the fish option I went with for this one and after one bite, I knew this was well worth it! The outside crust was crispy and light. The inside was flaky and moist. The flavor was spot on, so fresh tasting. It came with cocktail sauce and tarter sauce. They got it right! Cocktail sauce with any kind of fried seafood is a must. Fries were the medium size kind, that had a fluffy potato inside. It wasn’t as crispy as I hoped, but still good. 4 stars — Bread basket with butter. My tastebuds tell me that I can’t go wrong with sliced sourdough bread and my brain agrees. This was good with the whipped butter they serve alongside. Overall, Ivar’s is a good choice for reliable seafood in Seattle. Comfort food on a rainy day!

What else can I say but… FISH N CHIPS! Yes, Ivar’s has my favorite fish N chips ANYWHERE. Although a bit pricey, it’s worth every bite. I’m not a big fan of french fries in general, but when they sit under this awesomely juicy fish and soak up it’s juices, they turn into more than just fries. Fish flavored fries! Acres of clams is great because they are open late, and you can feed the seagulls any leftovers you might not eat. Seagulls have to eat too you know. When I lived in Seattle, and whenever I visit, I go here every other day, and it never gets old. I also like their white clam chowder. The shrimp and scallops are good, but the fish is the star. So whenever you’re in Seattle, stop by here at least once or twice a day, and thank me later.

Warm and yummy chowder on a chilly Seattle morning — two thumbs up! I wouldn’t say it’s the best chowder in the world, I probably need to be exposed to more chowder varieties before I decide on that. We ordered a variety of items to try out the menu: the red salmon chowder, the regular clam chowder, fried oysters, and the fish & chips. The fries are just how I like them, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. I personally prefer the regular clam chowder more — the salmon chowder is just a bit too strong for me. It’s delicious, don’t get me wrong. But it’s strong! Salty and sea-like, it’s for those who’s looking to chow down on a bowl of strong deliciousness. But I’m usually in the mood for something mild, so I went for the clam chowder. The fried oysters are good — not too fishy at all. And the fish and chips are well made as well. It was crispy, and the fish doesn’t fall apart as you work through it. We even ate another bowl in the airport — same quality, by the way! I’m definitely a fan of Ivar’s Acres of Clams and definitely coming back.

Best fried anything in Seattle. I am an onion ring fanatic. And Ivar’s does them right! Just located on the waterfront. Open during construction. Give me onion rings!!! Everything else on the menu is amazing too :)

I had eaten at Ivar’s fish bars in the past, so my husband and I decided to try the nice restaurant version. Service was horrible, it took 25 minutes before we were served our 1 appetizer and the bread for the table, and another 20 minutes after that before we got our bowls of soup(which was our main course). Seriously, 20 minutes to ladle pre-made soup into bowls? The restaurant wasn’t even busy at the time. The chowder was sub-par at best and under seasoned, the chowder I’d had at the fish bar in the past was far better. The crab cakes were just okay, which is very disappointing since they were $ 15 for 2 small ones. The«bowl» of soup was also rather small for the price, and also as something that is supposed to be a stand alone. We won’t be going back, I’ll stick to the fish bars and save myself a load of cash and a lot of frustration.

I’ve always had fantastic service and wonderful food here. Every time I go in, I try something I haven’t had on their menu. Their chowders are delicious. It’s what they’re known for. Their Caesar salad is phenomenal. They cook their fish to perfection. Can’t go wrong with ANY appetizer. And make sure you try their different flavored lemonade! Customer service is great. The hostess and servers have wonderful personalities. You’re never left with an empty glass and they make sure you’re taken care of. The construction will deter you from going in, but I promise you it’s worth it. They just did a remodel and the view is fantastic no matter what time of year.

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised with Ivar’s. It seems so touristy and not appealing from the outside. Once I walked inside i warmed up to the place. It had a nice ambiance. We sat next to the window and had a nice view of the harbor. First thing I noticed was the price of the food(on the pricey side) It turns out that tipping is not expected at the restaurant. I’m not use to not tipping but there was a flyer explaining that wages got increases and there was something else. The food took some time to come out. The food was really good. Seafood Chowder: great flavor. I like the chunky was of the chowder. I wasn’t too sure about the halibut though. It was over cooked in the chowder. Fish in stews or chowders can be very tricky. Ivar’s traditional Cod fish n chips: delicious. Perfectly crispy and not soggy at all. Fried Clam strips: decent size. Breaking to clam ratio was perfect. They give you enough to where you don’t feel ripped off. Halibut fish n chips: again, perfectly fried. I fished both pieces and was still crispy to the very last bite. Kids grilled Salmon: cute small 3 oz portions for the little ones. It Was not over cooked. My sister got so full from the salmon she couldn’t finish the Yukon mashed potatoes

How I heard of this place: It’s been here forever. I’ve seen it numerous times on plenty of walks along the waterfront. It’s been remodeled from top to bottom. And the first time I’ve entered the establishment’s doors was on this dinner with my husband(and son) and his colleague(and husband) from Montana. Type of cuisine: «To satisfy your craving for Northwest seafood, our chefs have created award-winning preparations to reflect the season’s bounty, yet still showcase Ivar Haglund’s world-famous original recipes. Choose from wild Alaska salmon, deep-water halibut, Alaska King Crab, Dungeness Crab, jumbo prawns, manila clams and weathervane scallops, just to name a few. Be sure to check out our Pier 54 Fish Bar, which offers take-out service of Ivar’s classics including award-wining fish ‘n chips, chowder and other seafood favorites. As part of the local lore, feel free to feed a few fries to the seagulls. It’s a photo opportunity worth sharing!» Ambiance: An extensive space, seemingly with room for every tourist in the city, Ivars’ newly remodeled space is clean, comfortable, and complete with expansive views of Elliot Bay. What I ordered: I was most interested in the Chowder Sampler($ 9) for 4-ounces each of the Northwest-style White Clam Chowder, Salmon and Corn Chowder, and NW Seafood Chowder to start, but was happy to partake of the selection of shellfish from Penn Cove. Our two selections: Coconut Curry Mussels($ 16) in a yellow curry coconut sauce with green onions and cilantro and Classic White Wine Clams($ 16) in a garlic broth with shallots, carrots, celery, onions, wine and butter. In our party of five(four eating adults), we had one order from the Classic Ivar’s menu, Ivar’s World-Famous Fish ‘n Chips($ 18 for a three-piece of Alaska True Cod) served with Ivar’s signature tartar sauce, cole slaw and French fries, one House-Smoked Bacon Wrapped Halibut($ 39) in a sherry wine vinaigrette, served with seasonable vegetables, garlic roasted baby Yukon Gold potatoes, and two of the Grilled Wild King Salmon($ 38) with roasted grape tomato and Spanish sherry vinaigrette, arugula and prosciutto salad. We couldn’t pass up dessert, nor leave the excellent company, so indulged in three selections, including Midnight Chocolate Truffle Cake($ 9): a chocolate chiffon cake, chocolate mousse, crème angelus, caramel sauce, and Snoqualmie Irish Cream ice cream(which we had to substitute for French vanilla as they had already run out), the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie($ 9): flaky pie dough filled with a traditional strawberry-rhubarb filling topped with Snoqualmie French Vanilla ice cream(which we substituted for blackberry), and one order of Snoqualmie Ice Cream in French Vanilla. What I loved: The melt-in-your-mouth salmon in its incredible, light and flavorful sauce, the coconut curried mussels(what!?!), and the strawberry-rhubarb pie. Why I loved it: It’s a beautiful space with gorgeous sunset views, perfect for a casual family or large, business get-together, a date night with your special someone, or a spot to stop and share a meal with a good friend. Cost: High($ 18 — $ 39 per dinner entrée)

The potatoes and mushrooms that were served with it complimented it very well. Cioppino — A bunch of Nemo and Friends in the most savory tomato broth. This one is a must try if you want a little of everything! Oysters Rockefeller — The hollandaise sauce complimented the bacon bits and spinach so well. Snoqualmie Ice Cream — Bailey’s Irish Cream and Blackberry to end the meal. I mean, it is Snoqualmie… What more can you ask for? There’s nothing that brings me back to childhood like fried clams, clam chowder, fish and chips, and tubs and tubs of tartar sauce like my first experience. At Ivar’s you can choose the quicker outdoor eating experience or sit inside. I ventured inside to try the«acres of clams» dish, steamed clams with some red potatoes served in wine sauce with garlic and butter. The dish is finished with chopped parsley and lemon wedges for earthiness and zest. What a joy to eat! Every clam was open and I found no grit in any single one. The clams were small, but tender and the broth was savory until every last drop. I finished it off with the complimentary sourdough bread. I also had clam chowder, which I recall didn’t have as many clams or potatoes as I would have liked, but it was decent.

My friends and I came here for lunch after spending the morning at Pike Place Market. It is newly renovated(seriously, the place still smelled like fresh paint to me). Very nicely done! The restaurant was very roomy, and not too loud. Dress is very casual, which is great since most tourists are just walking in off the streets. The restaurant was a little difficult to get to since there is a lot of construction going on in that area, but we found our way eventually. We requested a table with a view of the water, and it was well worth it since the wait wasn’t very long anyways. We were immediately brought water and bread for the table(although they forgot the butter with our bread, which was odd because all the other tables surrounding us had butter). I had the Roasted Beet salad with Vanilla Vinaigrette, and a cup of clam chowder. My friend’s cup of soup came out before the meal, but mine didn’t, which was a little odd… but I guess they considered mine to be «soup and salad» and brought it out all together. Both were very good, and I was fully satisfied by the end of my meal! The prices were reasonable, and the tip was included, which was nice.

I love me some good seafood and when the chance presents itself, I will totally over consume! I came here with some friends and just had the best time of my life. One of the better things about this place is that the prices are a little higher than normal. This is a great thing, because you don’t leave a tip for the servers. You are more than welcome to leave an additional tip if you would like but it’s not necessary to do it. I came and upon seating, I ordered the seafood chowder. This was so delicious and filled with a delicious bacon goodness. Well, then I just couldn’t help myself and got myself some oysters rocker feller and man, I was so happy! You would think that I would be content being the glutton that I was, but nope, my entrée still had to come out and get in my belly! I ordered the paella and I Was hoping for more. This was filled to the brim with seafood, but sometimes, an asian boy just needs to have some rice in their dish. The rice part of this dish was super sticky and mushy. It was such a paste consistency that I just ended up eating around it and eating more seafood. They’ve got great portions of everything here and the servers are nice. Be sure to ask for a waterside table because the views are BEAUTIFUL!!!

Walked around Seattle with my friend and stumbled across Ivar’s. Previously, it was recommended to us by a local so why not! This place is huger than it looks and is located on a pier overlooking the water. Foolishly, I assumed that a huge place on the waterfront would be a winner. Well smack me in the face for assuming. We walked in and there were 3 people at the front of the house. All 3 hostesses looked like they were the bees knees or something because none of them smiled and the 2 Asian female workers looked irritated. We got situated at a booth and waited. Instantly noticed the place was somewhat empty at 7PM. So. we sat there. and waited… and waited. tick tock. Two servers passed us by with no acknowledgement, no beverage. Hello?! Long story short, we waited for 15 minutes with our silverware and menu. No waiter, no acknowledgement, nothing but some really stuffy air. Up and peaced out and got some bomb pizza from Serious Pie instead.

This place has always been our favorite spot to have fish-n-chip. Fast foods finest in Seattle waterfront with heated seating area for those cold and rainy nights. The service is great other than they rarely clean out the condiment area. Sometimes I fear to use the cider vinegars cause fruit flies might be in the squeezer. I always stick to tarter and ketchup cause they are sealed. Other than their cleanliness the rice is cheap for the amount of fish-n-chips you get, the chowder bowls are delicious and they also have a sit in restaurant inside which is great!

Oh Ivar’s how it breaks my heart to see the changes that have gone down. I have been going to Ivar’s for years and years. As a broke college student, I thrived on their happy hour menu — the best in town. Every day from 3 to 11, I could chow down on cheap yet delicious oysters and bowls of chowder. If you have never had their chowder, you truly are missing out on life. Ivar’s clam chowder is thick and creamy, made with real cream(or milk or whatever it is) with tons of clam and potato chunks throughout — served alongside little oyster crackers. This is the first time that I have been back to Ivar’s in a few months and a lot has sure changed. For one they just reopened after a few months of closure for remodel. Don’t get me wrong, the space is absolutely beautiful, from the lounge you have a breath taking view of the waterfront — more specifically the ferry loading and unloading the hundreds and hundreds of Seattleites and tourist alike. Make sure you take a peek at the panoramic photo next to the entrance, there are 3 photos stacked atop of each other. Each photo was taken each year that the restaurant was remodeled — its amazing how much the city has changed. Why the lowered rating. Well, not too long ago a new legislation passed in Seattle raising minimum wage to $ 15. As a direct result establishments throughout the city have responded with a raise in their menu prices. Ivar’s has done that as well as eliminated the need to tip(see my photo). Here are my gripes, my oyster shooters went from being $ 1 on happy hour, to straight up being eliminated from the menu altogether and tripled in price. More than tripled to be precise — 3 for $ 10. Don’t get me wrong they were absolutely delicious, fresh and sweet, but 3 dollars for an oyster barely larger than a half dollar is no beuno. Chowder prices rose an additional 2 dollars and entrees have been minimized or have disappeared from the happy hour menu altogether. I get it, things get more expensive and I can probably get over the fact that things have tripled in price. But the main reason for me knocking the stars off in my review is the level of service. I surmise that due to the fact that diners are no longer obligated to tip, the staff has seemed to stop caring. At one point in the meal, when my friend in our party asked the waiter about the beers on draft the response he got was a menu thrown in front of his face as the waiter as he proceeded to walk away. Seriously. I wish I could describe in more detail who that waiter was, but no one waiter seemed to care enough to stick around or pass us along to the person covering the next shift. But then again what does he care, at the end of the day no matter what service level is given he will still get his paycheck.

Great place for Happy Hour. They have the best catchup I’ve ever tasted. My waitress said it’s from Oregon. The fish & chips are top notch plus the Potato Croquette’s are something special woth a tasty combination of braised pork and boubon sauce. I will be back for more. It reminds me of a light tasty version of poutine. And to top it off, Gretchen gave me the best service I’ve ever had @ Ivar’s. The newly remodeled dinnig room & bar are very nice too. It’s a nice upgrade to the Seattle waterfront.

When in Seattle, have seafood right? I made reservations at this restaurant for dinner but ended up not needing it since it was pretty empty when I arrived. We ordered off their happy hour menu since it was going on at the time and we weren’t too hungry yet. We tried the chowder sampler, crab cake slider, mixed berry salad, and calamari. The only thing that I really liked was the mixed berry salad. Everything else was not very impressive, not very flavorful, batter heavy, and greasy. The chowder was so disappointing compared to Pike Place Chowder. Overall, I probably wouldn’t recommend this place or come back the next time I’m back in Seattle.
