I love the feel of BirchTree. It’s has this funky pseudo industrial feel but still manages to be homey and inviting. I’m always impressed by the eclectic crowd in here — from business casual clearly on their way to work folks to college aged kids to construction workers with hard hats under their arms. The only difficulty I have here is trying to avoid the bread — which is damn near impossible. Thank goodness I don’t have a gluten allergy — I’d come here and make myself ill anyways! Keep it up BirchTree — you’ve got a good thing going.(Side note friends — the mugs? I would love to have some — wink wink!)

Awesome bakery/salad/sandwich spot with delicious, thick fresh bread and local ingredients. Everything we tried was stellar: the grilled cheese with apple chutney, the roasted beet salad, the corned beef, the toasts. They check all the boxes — healthy, local, tasty, affordable — and the room itself is spacious and well-lit = I am in love.

I stopped in here after working up an appetite at Crompton, before heading home. I am VERY picky about bread, being a self-proclaimed carb-o-holic. This bread is amazing. How do you know? One loaf didn’t make it home. My husband practically had to roll me out of my car and into our apartment. The flavor, texture, density… everything about their breads is on point. Plus, friendly service and a gorgeous atmosphere. Next time I will stay and eat there, as it may help me avoid car-bingeing on the way home.

Good atmosphere, good coffee and toast(s). What really irks me everytime I stop in is the wait. I think they have now been open long enough that I thought it would be a little more streamlined, but today we waited 25 minutes just to order our toast, and another 25 to get it. I love to support local businesses and was super excited about this place, but I probably won’t be stopping in again unless it’s a time of day that I hope won’t be as busy.

When I was a kid my dad made homemade bread every Sunday, and this place always takes me back to the moments when I would sneak into the kitchen and steal a slice off of a loaf fresh out of the oven. Even more, this is everything I look for in a breakfast/brunch/lunch experience. The coffee is great, the food is delicious(the olive and herb toast is to die for) and the atmosphere is fantastic. A trip to birchtree always leaves me with a gigantic smile on my face and a very happy tummy.

Everything that Worcester needs right now. Absolutely love this place! Food, bread and beverages are all delicious and staff could not be nicer! Music on the weekends makes me want to stay and hang out all day. Keep up the good work.

OK, as a Hartford area resident, I’m getting kind of jealous of Worcester, with places like this. Had a fantastic lunch here recently… almost too many great choices to pick from. The space and the atmosphere is great. Large, open and very modern, without being cold. And get this — they had live music… at lunch! I can’t think of anything to quibble with, really. BirchTree is about as good as it gets, for lunch anyway. Will definitely be back next time I’m in Worcester.

What a cool place! Wait for my gingerbread latte was on the long side, but you can’t rush quality. Latte was delicious, not too sweet. Had the local wheat toast with local cultured butter and honey – yummy and simple. Daughter had the pain au chocolate and it was to die for. Rich chocolate surrounded by flaky croissant. Atmosphere is relaxed, trendy, and super comfy. Acoustic band playing when we arrived. Would have given this awesome place 5 stars if it had not been for the wait.

FANTASTIC coffee, tea and home made breads and lovingly crafted sandwiches shop. HUGE and spacious, with an open kitchen where you can oggle the ode to carbs in all shapes, sizes and aromas… Their bread pudding should come with a warning! Its large enough to share! Our banana and chocolate chip behemoth was seductively luscious and so heart happiness with my warm cup of coffee! Bring your own mug for refills on black coffee — they love you! Why not service the java junkies? Its right smack near college ville, where many over nighters happen and the zing is demanded for survival! If you are in the Worcester area, you need to check it out. Very grounded, industrial-type and pure quality breads. To go and cheeses to take home too, in case all you want is a bottle of wine, bread and cheese for a light evening meal.

Came here on a Sunday. It was awesome! Place was packed so it took a little while to find a place to sit but was very worth it. They had a solo sourtherny blues guitarist performing, but it wasn’t so intrusive that you couldn’t converse with who you were with. The food was very good, and the staff was friendly and prompt. I look forward to coming back.

What a great place — I spoke with the husband and wife owners. They are bringing back the true food. Lots of local produce– organic wheat for the bread. They sell items from local vendors. They display local artists painting and photos. Talk about getting back to local!!! On Saturdays they have local performers to entertain. And on Saturday– Farmers Market on Saturdays downstairs. In my opinion– Local is better. Let’s support them:)

The positive reviews of this place are fully warranted, great fresh made breads and sandwiches unlike most anything else around. Great exposed brick type atmosphere and often lively and fun. This is a great place to stop when you’re checking out the consignment shoppes downstairs. Great food, great surroundings.

I really liked the atmosphere of the place. The apple cider and lattes were delicious and all of the sandwiches we ordered were really good. The only complaint was that the Birch Tree Grilled Cheese was really small for the amount of money we paid for it.

Pretty great place. I just had the feta spread and olive bread and a white choc and cranb cookie. Both were delish. Had to wait about 10 mins to get it, Friday at 2:30. I’d steer clear on sat or Sunday as I’ve tried to go in the past and the lines were out the door. This means the food is good, but if we had waited in that line, I’m sure it would have been at least an hour before we got our food. Cute interior. Rustic, hipster coffee shop with WI-FI.

I really, really want to like this place and have visited at least 6 times. It’s nice to support local establishments. However the service and reliability of this place is so hit-or-miss I really can’t recommend the place. I’ve given it a fair shake at this point and likely won’t be back. Here’s what’s good: The place is really spacious with a boho-chic vibe and supports local artists and musicians. The staff are nice. When I’ve been able to get the food I want, it has been good. Here’s the bad: To one’s complete disbelief, this is a bakery and they don’t sell loaves of bread for the first three hours they are open. The line to order is UNACCEPTABLE. I have waited over 30 minutes in line to order a sandwich and then an additional 30 minutes to get the sandwich. This problem could be easily be resolved in one of two ways: 1. Have(several) more registers that will take food orders. 2. Become full-service with servers so people can order from their table. It’s nice that they support local music but listening to a loud seven-person band at 10:30 on a Saturday morning is horrid. On several occasions they do not have what I try to order(see bread loaf situation above). I have stood in the 30 minute line to find out they don’t have the sandwich I’d like anymore. They don’t serve any decaf espresso-based drinks despite the fact they are a coffee shop/bakery(except it’s not coffee, it’s «java»). Unfortunately, even though you’ve been in line for 30 minutes, «we aren’t taking lunch orders for another 10 minutes… oh and sorry we don’t say that anywhere.» If this place could streamline everything *a lot* more, I’d go here often. Until then, I’m genuinely sad to say that I’m out.

LOVE this place! I almost don’t want more people to know about it so it wont get too crowded but its probably too late for that! Awesome sandwiches, great coffee, nice ambiance in a restored mill/warehouse building with wooden floors, large windows, lots of light. cool folk band on Sat afternoons too. We usually eat here, go down to Crompton Collective and then other consignment stores. A hipsterific afternoon had by all!

Really trendy café in Worcester MA. This place is beautiful, hands down the most beautiful café I’ve ever seen. Located in a former factory building, Birch tree café has original hardwood flooring, high ceilings and a warm atmosphere. The service: great! You order you drink and food at the counter and then have a seat. Wait a couple of minutes and someone will bring your food to your table. The Food: the bread is housemaid with locally sourced ingredients. The menu is creative and tasty. I had a grilled cheese sandwich with extra sharp VT cheddar and a tons a yumminess. I highly enjoyed the birch tree café and will return.

I love this coffee shop/bakery! I drove past here one day and bookmarked this location, knowing I had to come back. The first time I drove by, there was live music inside. I finally got the chance to spend some time here one morning, and I’m so glad I did. The interior décor is beautiful and welcoming. I love the wood designs inside. This place is also a lot more spacious than I imagined! I ordered a ham, egg, cheese on a croissant and an iced chai latte. I was getting hungry waiting for my food, but boy was it worth the wait. The croissant was fresh and toasted, and this was probably one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had. I sat down at a table near the window and stayed for a few hours to get some work done. I really enjoyed the atmosphere here and would definitely come back often if I lived in the area.
