Having tried the excellent ‘La Tasca’ last week(see review) we set off in search of bigger and better food horizons and having heard some very good things about the Indian Ocean we were drawn toward to restaurant for an relaxing evening meal. First impressions? 5 star! We walked in the door, were greeted by enticing aromas wafting from the kitchen and were seated in the busy but not bunged restaurant. For some reason the waiter tried to place us in some corner seat near the entrance away from the rest of the diners, which isn’t really my scene(I prefer being closer to the action) but once we were appropriately seated we found ourselves browsing through an appetising range of meals. We ordered a shandy and a pint(Tennents Ice Cold) to wet our mouths whilst deciding… well, I can admit, I’ve drank a pint or two in my time, and I can honestly say I’ve never tasted anything like this before(and not in a good way!) it just didn’t even look right, a dark ale-ish looking colour which smelt like some sort of acidic nastiness and tasted like a bitter excuse for beer. Not a good start! The waiter said it was because it was a new keg, but who knows! However, two fresh(bottled) beers later we were ready and eager to order. Sadly, the monkfish was off the menu(wish they could have told us before we decided, it would have saved a lot of hassle seeing as it was my boyfriends top three choices …) In the end we decided on the crab claws and house tandoori mix to start, the highly recommended king prawn special and a chicken korma for mains alongside a plain naan, a mushroom rice and a garlic naan. All in all the food didn’t fail to impress, especially the crab claws which were deliciously juicy and tender, the prawns, which *drool* were simply beautiful, they even looked the part and that’s hard to do with prawns(see pics). It was a pity about the monkfish but the server said it wasn’t good enough quality so fair play I guess, que c’era, another time. The breads were fresh, moist and well cooked(I’m fussy about naan so you know it’s good!) and the rice was particularly nice as well. The service wasn’t spectacular though it wasn’t unpleasant. I’d say I’d like to either come back here, or try one of the other branches to test out the different qualities /experiences in each, but as far as the Odyssey goes it wasn’t bad. I’m not raving about it but I LOVE Indian cuisine so as far as I’m concerned if you’re going to do it, do it right! It’s handy if you’re about the complex, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here.

The food here was quite nice. I would describe it as ‘proper’ indian cuisine. There was a wide choice of dishes on the menu and chips were available to chip-lover like myself. I agree with the other reviewers that although the service was efficient, the staff seemed disinterested. I don’t believe anyone attending to the tables smiled at any point. There was also the feeling that we had out-stayed our welcome after dabbing the corners of our mouths. For me, unless your a big fan of Indian food, then there are better, friendlier choices at the Odyssey.

I went here for a colleagues leaving do a few weeks ago and thought the food was lovely. The korma was the nicest i have ever tasted, and the peshwari naan was gorgeous. We had a bit of trouble initially getting seated at one table, they wanted to seat us at two separate ones. In the end they agreed to let us pull the two tables together. It seemed silly to have all that hassle though as i’m sure we’re not the first large group they have had to accomodate. Service was good in that the staff were really attentive but they all seemed to be really unfriendly. Still we had a lovely night and the food was so nice i’m planning to go back with my boyfriend next weekend.

Fab food, very tasty portion sizes were on the large side. Which suited everyone, and their naan bread was absolutely beautiful. Very prompt service but felt a little rushed to move on from the table, not a place to stay on at your table.
