This place is alright and I have ordered a takeaway from them once before. Ordering was not a problem and I was surprised by how quickly it arrived. Usually when ordering a takeaway from somewhere it can take between 30 — 45 minutes to arrive, but this quite literally arrived in about 20 minutes! I had ordered a chicken korma and my friend had ordered a butter chicken. To be honest, I found my dish a little flavourless and I must admit I know better places to order an Indian takeaway. I did not finish my meal. However, the portion sizes were good and it was fairly cheap too. I was impressed by how quickly the food arrived and the chap who delivered was very friendly. Overall, it is not my favourite place, but it is alright.

I will only tire of writing about Birmingham curry houses when I stop finding ones which I enjoy and Khanum is another establishment which I enjoy very much so. It’s not that Khanum do anything spectacularly different to their competitors but the place itself is just very likeable and I have never felt let down by a curry here. On top of that this place is definitely at the bargain end of the curry spectrum, meaning you get top class food but at prices which won’t do too much damage to your bank balance. Prompt service, good ambience and good food to boot, Khanum is always worth a couple of hours of your time.

Can’t go wrong with a tarka dall, and Khanum more than delivers. Service quick, food was hot and tasty, and the vegetarian in me was very satisfied. Not too oily — which a dall often can be, so that was a good sign. My other half had a chicken biryani, and whilst the veg curry that comes with it was a bit bland, the meat was apparently tender and delicious and there was lots of it there. A biryani is always our way of testing curry houses that ar new to us, and this one passed with flying colours. Winning all round!

Khanum is an Indian restaurant in the centre of Selly Oak that also delivers. They serve the usual array of bhunas, kormas and tikkas, and whenever I’ve eaten in there the food has been high quality. Service is surprisingly prompt and the staff are friendly, though not so friendly it gets in the way of the quick service. The prices are at the cheaper end of the curry house price range, starting at about 5.50÷6 pounds for a main course and about 1.50÷2 pound for side dishes. There are higher quality curry houses in Birmingham, but these will undoubtedly tax your wallet a lot harder than Khanum, there are also cheaper curry houses but with with lower quality food. The one criticism I have is that the restaurant is a little cramped, but apart from this Khanum is a restaurant I would recommend to curry fans.

As per the above review, food is average. Environment is excellent. Very well presented and clean. Would be better to go a bit further away for some better indian cuisine. Food is also expensive.

This place isn’t bad; it’s very pleasent, with tropical fish on display and a friendly atmosphere. Small and probably the cheapest on the Bristol Road, unlicensed, and giving free popadoms. Balti and curry are on offer, but I think their strength is the byriani. Takeaway delivery service available, and vegan, vegetarian and halal options are plentiful. The only thing is the food just isn’t as good as the other places in the area. But if you want something cheap quick and tasty, go for it.
