As my predecessors have mentioned, don’t be fooled by the look of Dopey’s from the outside. It is so much more! It follows the tradition of the ‘Mom and Pop’ shops, by offering a delectable range of home cooked food, and the kind of service that goes along with it. Founded by a husband and wife team, they now have two shops, this one on Woodlands Road and another in the East End of Glasgow. When you arrive, you may have a hard time deciding what to order. If that’s the case, just talk to the staff/owners. They’ll often point you in the right direction after asking a few simple questions like, ‘hot or cold?’; ‘lunch or brunch?’. The soup is freshly made, and it warms you from the inside out, as a good soup should. There are no frills in this place and for good reason: the food is so good they don’t need to distract you with any extras. Plus, if you get the burger combo(burger, chips and a drink), you won’t have room for much else. It’s places like Dopey’s who offer quality service and food who inevitably suffer in economic down-turns due to the Wetherspoons of the world tempting us with the cheap bargain meals, threatening to steal our very souls. Why get a microwave-to-plate meal, when you can get home-cookin at Dopey’s? Don’t judge it by the figurine on the sign. Just enjoy yourself.

As an admirer of both dwarves and well cooked fry-ups, Dopey Diner had to do very little to impress me. The fry-up was excellent, and they’ve got the whole dwarf thing down to a T. In an era where sunblushed tomato and rocket paninis turn lunchtime into a cycle of soul-destroying monotony all too quickly, the Dopey is a breath of fresh air.

This little café is a great little find, as the previous reviewers have mentioned it’s not very fancy or glamorous but that doesn’t stop the quality of the food here being top notch. They do a huge selection of cold and hot filled rolls, salads, sandwiches, baguettes and cooked breakfasts. I popped in here last week for a well deserved lunch break after spending the whole morning in the library finishing off some course work. I opted for a ham roll and a nice warm cup of tea which warmed me up as it was a little chilly out. To follow my roll I got a slice of tasty iced gingerbread which was the moistest gingerbread around. Delish! I can definitely recommend this diner, great food, great prices and friendly staff.

Mmmmm. Yeah. It may not look like much from the outside but don’t be so quick to judge it by that. This is an amazing diner. Ok, so the décor, fixtures and fitting are all very basic and the counter at the back is very reminiscent of local roll shops where I used to buy my school lunch. However, the staff are super friendly, very nice and the service is efficient and quick. Now for the food. Oh, the food. There’s a good range of breakie treats, I opted for the massive meaty fry up. Everything was cooked perfectly, extremely tasty and despite how I was starting to feel(not so hot), I managed to eat everything on my plate. Additionally, the whole thing –with a big mug of tea — only cost around £4. Best of all, you get no strange or judgemental looks if you wander in at 11am after obviously having been up drinking all night(it was a leaving party, honest).

The Dopy Diner is the diner equivalent of a soluble vitamin table mixed with Alka Seltzer in a pint glass filled with chilled water consumed following a night off drink mixing and excess. In less convoluted terms it is where you should go it you want a fry-up on a hanger over. The vibe is fantastic as it is an authentic Glasgow café and the staff are really friendly. It is clear that they have served breakfast to hung-over people more than once — I would go out on a limb and say they are world class experts. The groggy boys who accompanied me when I last went asked for the mighty Belly Buster. This is a beast of a fry is filled with everything you could want though one of the chaps did make the comment that they should have haggis in the fry — well I suppose there is no pleasing some people. If you are a vegetarian like me then do not be put off by the meat feast as you can get tasty egg related options and a nice range of juices. «We should insure the chefs hands,» quipped one of the people at my table. We all agreed.
