I can’t believe this place hasn’t been reviewed yet! 22 Below is quite easy to miss — just off Regent Street, opposite Liberty and next to the London Palladium. If you see a place called Café Libre, it’s down the stairs just to the left of it. It’s a small, cosy bar, quirky 60s-style video loops, and it’s fairly quiet with an inoffensive music selection. As such, it’s a nice space for a more intimate evening. Décor is quite amusing — a selection of famous hats on the wall, fake grass floor and an oversized birdcage on the bar. The cocktail menu is very creative with prices being pretty standard(£7−9) which isn’t bad, considering the area. They also do a number of specials too, so look out for those. There are a number of interesting cocktails: the clove-laden, rum-based ‘One-Eyed Willy”; lemongrass and coconutty«Thai Sorbet»; refreshing«Catch 22»; also a chilli-laden orange special. It’s never been rammed when I’ve been in. There’s not a lot of space though, so it’s worth going earlier on in the evening(Happy Hour) or midweek. …the location, price, and cocktail selection make it one of my favourite places in Central London.

Tucked away opposite Libertys, next to the Sound of Music theatre 22 below is a charming little venue. Having popped in for a few warm-up Birthday drinks on a Tuesday night, my friends and I were pleasantly surprised. Even though we stumbled in a couple of hours before the weekly comedy night, the staff were really helpful, didn’t make us feel in the way, let us cobble together some chairs and have a little area. Cheap bottles of red, good sounding snacks menu and we were done. Planning to go back for the comedy night, although I would advise going earlier rather than later as the seats were filling up as we were leaving. The last vacant spot could be the comfy sofa approximately one foot in front of the act. eek!
