Benihana needs no introduction! The Chelsea Branch is my favourite, the seating area is located underground, very spacious, modern and elegant. Most Japanese menus in London consist of Sushi dishes and that’s about it, but Benihana provides an extensive menu with a range of dishes prepared in front of you by a trained Chef. The tables are in the shape of a semi circle and so you have a perfect view of the chef who performs tricks while preparing the meal as well as easily converse with your group. The food is very delicious and there are many options available to choose from. The nature of the place makes it suitable for people in groups whether family, friends or even a dinner for two. You can never go wrong with Benihana.

The place is quite big … Nicely done. A bit easy to miss it because it’s all underground, just a very small door. Good sushi, quite fresh. The food came a bit slow though. Still, overall a decent restaurant for Japanese food.

We visited here for a double Birthday celebration, opting for the amazing £29 seven course menu(including a glass of prosecco!) We were beyond impressed. Our chef was amazing, throwing in several tricks and cooking simple yet delicious food. He explained each course and cooked our prawns, chicken and steak to perfection. The staff were super friendly and even all emerged from the kitchen to with candle-lit desserts to sing us happy birthday. Amazing service and amazing value. We can’t wait to return.

Homesick brought me to Benihana in London !!! This restaurant has my memory of SoCal Beverly Hills and New York City. I have to see that beating heart fired rice and onion rings volcano !!! Very elegant ambience. Fresh ingredients. Chefs entertain you with their tricks. Full bar. In love with black sugar plums wine. I had lobster and steak as entrée. Very juicy and tasty. People defiantly love to come here for their birthday celebrations. I had to hear and clap for strangers’ birthdays songs more than 3 times at my dinner. At the end of the dinner, you will not only feel full but also like a birthday girl !!!

I came here once. The food was great, the sake was good(as sake goes — how good can a drink that tastes like an armpit actually get?) and the notorious chefs performing their culinary acrobatics were very entertaining to watch. The walls are plastered with photos of celebrities and Nicholas Cage who have graced the venue with their presence, I was also sat at a table next to some of the guys from Busted and McFly too, which took this 4-star review to a 5-star one.

So perhaps I should have researched this one better, it is certainly not a place to go for an intimate dinner for two. Really more of a family place(we were sharing a table with one) or a place to take a surly pre-teen with whom you have nothing to talk about. Nice architecture, good service, the floor show of the chef cooking for you is less special each time you see other chefs do exactly the same routine, with the same jokes, same tricks and same clattering implements at other tables — which you *will* see before yours. The main problem I have with having you food cooked in-front of you, is that it removes the kitchen magic. I can see him put a supermarket steak(yes, it wasn’t great) on the grill and slice it up, I can see him over-cooking the chicken and pouring some pre-made teriyaki sauce over(meh, I can do that), and I already saw the onion volcano on the table across from us with three kids. When I am paying this much for a meal, I really want it to be about the food not the floor routine, very disappointing.

I went there last night with 2 friends. I have been to many Benihanas in the US also. Food is good(we all had Shogun-combo of beef, prawn, veggie) and spicy tuna roll. Food is good, entertaining sheff, and other employees. But this is the smokiest benihana and the like of all I have been to. All of us came back talking about how we can wash off this smell in clothes !! Maybe only Japanese complain about it but we can go there only on friday/saturday night, then go straight to ofuro(bath). Again food and all others are good like all other benihana!!!

— large Japanese restaurant in Chelsea — reservation recommended! — you are seated around one of the Hibachi grills, where your food is grilled — staff very nice, especially the cook/chef is very entertaining(juggling food,) it really is an event to watch the cook/chef — there are different menues with various kinds of fish and meat to be prepared on the grill; they also offer sushi: we took Benihana delight(juicy prawn & chicken; 36GBP) and Land & Sea(Fillet Mignon & Miso Black Cod; 46GBP); the menues come with a soup, salad, prawn appetizer, vegetables, rice and Japanese Tea — the quality of the food is really great; the portions are large — Benihana Iced Tea is delicious(8.20GBP) — the beer is expensive: Asahi Large(6.50GBP) — for dessert we tried Cheese Cake Dumplings with icecream: tasted great, too!(5.50GBP) — we came back as a group for a birthday party and the show was really great: the staff was singing for the person celebrating and also brought a delicious chocolate cake! They also made a foto and print out as a souvenir! Conclusion: We will definitely come back since the food is great although the prices are really high(minus one star)!

Yes, I ate at a Benihana. Don’t you judge me! Anyway, it’s a long story to explain how I ended up here so I won’t go into it. We arrived and were semi-promptly seated. We had come for the £296-course menu deal, but the menus we got did not offer this. Of course, typical restaurant trickery. So we had to ask for them. They instantly asked if we wanted a drink, despite *just* sitting down. We sent them away and then they didn’t come back for about 20 minutes. Great. In ‘if you can’t beat em, join em’ spirit of retro dining, we ordered strawberry daiquiris. At £9.50, Jesus. And waited. Finally we ordered food. The deal was pretty good, 3 meats and fish and then the rest of the usual menu. They upsold us on the fried rice which came in at a pricey £7.80. This place is unjustly expensive. We also orded a dragon roll, which was some of the pricest and also poorest maki rolls I’ve ever eaten. Fail. Overall the food was good enough, but the service was appalling. Slow, slow slow.

The monday and tuesday deal is good. Plenty of food, cooked well, reasonably priced. Nothing mind blowing but not bad if you’re not looking for that special something.

Yep, My in fav part of town. Loved the food, ambience. Place to meet up with friends. Easy to get to from where I am near Ally Pally, just hop on the tube at Wood Green. Piccadilly line takes you to Sloane square, and your there! Enjoy!

I definitely see why they are rated 5 stars. Made a reservation via Unilocal which was fantastic and got there fashionably late but my table was waiting along with another family. The chef was doing tricks with his knives in no time and the food preparation started. Honestly the food is quite cheap for the quality and the location. Had the steak chicken and prawns for £28 which was very fair. All in all I had fun and would definitely be back.

Just as good as back home(California) and just as entertaining. This location, though, was absolutely beautiful! I couldn’t believe how big it was and the bar area was amazing. Definitely great for a group to meet up for some drinks or chill there after eating.

Im sorry. I dont call it as Japanese. The performance was not great. Maybe because I have been to lots of Sam’s restaurants in Okinawa? I think the experience could have been better… If you never been to Teppanyaki it will be unique experience for you but if you have been to Teppanyaki for more than 50 times in your like, you will see the deteriorated quality.

Very interesting. I was in this restaurant back in Los Angeles and loved it. I see here they have the same type of service and even if the décor is a bit cheaper, the staff is just as fun! It is like going to a circus with your food. Great experience once again. The cook was amazing and would go back again. Try the banana tempura with ice cream, just great!

I liked more the staff here than in the one in St. Paul’s and it’s definetely more fun than there with the chefs doing all the possible tricks to entertain you. The food amazing again, but the decoration maybe needs a renovation. Plenty of famous people has been there.

So at home, Benihana is a lame family restaurant your parents make you go to as a family outing even though you just want to go to taco bell and take a nap. But somehow, it’s pretty swanky in Chelsea. The chef did the classic onion volcano, though it was actually more impressive than what I remember, he did flip pieces of egg into our mouths, and everything tasted AMAZING. seriously, the chicken was deliciously marinated in teriyaki sauce, the steak super juicy, the cod perfectly flavored, and the prawns super fresh and tasty. the portions were so big, we were no where near being able to finish. next time, i think it’s recommendable to do what the other couple at our table did — order one teppenyaki and an appetizer to share between two. that way, you still get a great show and food, but you’re not having a bunch of leftover and spending exorbitant amounts of money. the boyfriend swiped the bill away before i could peek, but with the cocktails, etc was definitely £100+ for two. last thoughts on cocktails: don’t get the green tea margarita, it sounds good, but it does not taste good. but DO get the watermelon martini :)

Having eaten in the Benihana restaurant in Bangkok, I was eager to try the London offering. Benihana is the quintessential teppenyaki restaurant. You sit around large rectangular hotplates alongside other diners while your showman-cum-chef plays with your food. The menu is comprised of various permutations of steak and seafood, plus rice etc. It’s not cheap(I think we paid around £30/head + alcohol), but it is a great meal and real entertainment.

Benihana in Chelsea, London was the first one I’ve visited and thereafter I went to the one in Washington DC to try it out. To sum it up, the Brits are taking over the gastronomic Hibachi + Teppanyaki scene. Benihana in Chelsea was a great corporate outing. The Hibachi chefs put on a fantastic, flawless show. I gorged myself on Hibachi Chateaubriand, filet mignon, shrimps, and scallops. It was so good that one coworker, who openly and religiously swore herself as vegetarian, broke her mantra and stuffed herself silly on both fleshes of cow meat. Ha! The group of us finished off dinner with some delectable green tea ice cream and simply had a great time there. To blend into posh Chelsean surroundings, Benihana is also furnished to the nines. No complaints for Benihana in Chelsea, London!
