Ever get the feeling when you walk into a restaurant, you kind of expect it to be bad? I went there for lunch during the week and we had a reservation at 12:30. We walk in the first thing they say is that the kitchen isn’t ready so come back in half an hour. I was tempted to find some place else as you don’t have a whole lot of time. We had the lunch special and I had the tom yum soup and pad thai w/chicken. It was okay. Nothing special and have definitely had better elsewhere — especially when there are so many thai restaurants in London. I doubt I’ll be back.

Thai food is probably the cuisine I eat most often, behind Mexican. When my family was walking through the Piccailly Circus area in need of lunch, we read the sandwich-boards in front of each restaurant to see who had an affordable express lunch. We settled on Blue Lagoon because I was curious how Anglo-Thai stacks up to Ameri-Thai. Although we were seated quickly, and told the server we needed to be out the door in 45 minutes to make a reservation, she didn’t seem to be in any hurry to take our order. While ordering, she told us that nothing we wanted was on the«express» lunch menu, but we could order it on the regular menu. We settled for some generic dishes(cashew chicken, vegetable stir fry, etc) which didn’t get on our table very expressly. Nothing was bad, but nothing was memorable either.

4.5 stars! Yummers! Stumbled in here right before the dinner rush. There was also some birthday party downstairs. The place was poppin, and the food was amazing! Had pad thai, spicy beef and some tasty beer. Mmm. Craved this meal again and again for the remainder of my trip. The service was OK, not great and the portions could’ve been bigger but the tasty grub makes up for those minor issues. Delish!

I was so excited to finally have Thai food in London but was terribly disappointed with the food, service, and atmosphere of Blue Lagoon. We arrived here during prime dinner time and the place was empty except for about 2 tables, yet it still took a good 5 minutes for us to even be acknowledged by a server and then another 5 minutes to be given menus. Everyone who served us had a look and attitude of disdain and smugness. What they had to be smug about I have no idea, Blue Lagoon look and feels like the inside of a corporate office cubicle. Once we finally got our food, it was not the fantastically flavorful Thai food I was looking forward to. Instead it was your run of the mill Asian food with nothing distinctly Thai about it. My friend ordered a side of steamed rice that did not come with the rest of our entrees. When she politely the server for it, the server gave her a dirty look and promptly went to the back of the restaurant and started talking to her companion. After they finished their conversation, which was obviously very important, my friend finally got her rice, close to 10 minutes later. Needless to say, we did not leave all of the suggested service charge. I hope to find better Thai places in London soon, as Blue Lagoon did nothing to whet my appetite.

Looks like unimpressive from outside and not much better inside… the food is also not that amazing… I think they dont have enough customers to justify buying fresh ingredients everyday and hence food doesnt taste very full of flavour… given the location they will still attract many tourists who dont require really spicy thai food

This was an interesting experience. No roti… ok. at the time we went in here… I guess they ran out of napkins, so we had paper ones. No chopsticks… is this normal for London eating? … ok. onto the food. Rice — passable… not great… not as bad as PF Changs Appetizer chips… interesting. .shrimp chips with a slight bit of kick? Yellow chicken curry for me — pretty good… a bit more coconutty than I’m used to but it had good taste in general. Pad Seeiuw(sp?) — this was the loser of the dishes that were ordered… some of the noodles weren’t cooked quite right. Tom Kah(what my wife and I know it as) — as also a bit coconutty and didn’t quite have the same kick that we were used to, but that wasn’t a bad thing. Odd in that overall, even with some of the odd experiences, I’d still give this place 3-stars. I think my wife really liked it and would likely go back. Bummer though. I think as we were rushing out to hit the theatre showing that I left my hat there… and they were closed when we got out.
