this is one of my top 3 coffee places in london, but coffee is not the main reason to come. The coffee is instant and somehow magic, the food is crazy fierce immense — out of the fryer fresh and could definitely feed an army, and my friend says their meat is some of the best-tasting that she has found in the countries that she has lived in. The atmosphere is so good that i hesitate to share it!!! but definitely have to praise it. Friendly and busy. Sometimes friendly and quietly busy. Perhaps a difficult place for a hipster to lounge in and probably not a place for vegans(the open butchery is opposite the food counter), but anyone hanging in the hood looking to fill their belly with a general smile should check it out

Unexpectedly needing to find breakfast in Brixton, I walked through the oh so cool Brixton Arcade, into a independent coffee shop, full of melancholy hipsters. Why so sad? 50p surcharge for soya milk, making it a whooping £3.10! Is it soya with gold in it?! Went round the corner to the«Columbian» place, Las Americas. Its a one stop shop. Butcher/café/bakery/juicery/money exchange/etc. I had two hot, buttery arepas with a bit of spicy salsa and coffee(no soya) for £3.30. They do have loads of options, and all my Spanish and South American friends bring me here, so its got to be the real deal. The staff don’t tend to speak much english, so it helps if you know a few words.

My girlfriend has a serious bunuelo addiction, so I seem to find myself here about once a week, sampling various Colombian snack foods. They’ve got all the usual things — arepas, meat empanadas, and something very greasy involving deep-fried pork belly that I’m slowly building up to. They also do meat, which looks a bit dubious, and long-distance money transfers, hopefully less so! The instant coffee is an interesting experience which I would recommend avoiding. Saying all that, there is something nice about the place — there’s a friendly atmosphere and actually, bunuelos are strangely addictive!
