The walking traffic in front of this spot is cray because the Liverpool Underground is right here. I HAD to pop in for some pints since my London office is right around the corner. This über-traditional pub was full of business men that looked like James Bond. No joke. I liked that they served refreshing pints but loved that they handed out Licenses to Ill(seewhatIdidthere) My out-of-London commuter mate and I grabbed some ales prior to boarding the train. Drunk on the tube is pretty common in London. And its smart, mate. Smart.

Super comfortable pub with great service. Lunch(6 pounds) and dinner(8 pounds) specials that include a pint! Tasty food with good size portions. Sandra is a great host, try to get her if you go.

This is a really beautiful pub that’s worth a visit just to see it’s unusual and elegant interior; it’s fun to sit on the higher level and enjoy the view of the rest of the pub. Otherwise it’s a pretty standard situation with fairly expensive drinks: totally acceptable stop off if you’re right nearby but I wouldn’t bother travelling any distance to drink here.

Lets just forget about the food and the drink for a second and view this as just a room which is well decorated and with a bit of history. For that one reason alone this place warrants a visit. It is one of the most attractive pubs I have ever been to. The drinks are a bit pricey compared to other pubs and the food is so-so. So thats 3 stars for the stuff you buy. The 1 extra star added for that oh-so-awesome ambience.

Went in coz it looked interesting. And interesting it was inside too old railways watering hole it’s named after the first chairman for the met rail. Destroyed in the fire and all that. Run by nicholsons tho so menu is standard, had the venison sausages and mash and it was good. Drinks are a bit pricey tho, so didn’t go crazy with the whiskys as I was planning to. Oh and the bathroom lights didn’t work peeing in he dark wasn’t fun sober so went elsewhere before things got really tricky! A candle light in the loo would have kept there all night, in the pub that is!

Pleasant service. Bad food(I had nachos). Pricey drinks. But a nice atmosphere and a comfy seats.

A Nicholson’s pub near Liverpool Street Station. Nice selection of real ales, the usual lagers and ciders. It’s an attractive pub with nice seating options. Decent, regular Nicholson’s food menu. Average prices. The barmaid was a little slow on the draw during my visit, but at 2pm on a Monday I can’t fault her for it.

Met a friend here for a Friday lunch and the only thing that was good about it was the chance to catch up with a friend. The service was awful(although the little old women who served us was endearing despite her forgetfulness) and the food was not up to par. Maybe I should have had the special of the day? Yes, possibly. But how could they go wrong with a chicken sandwich? Somehow they did because it was crumbling apart with barely any chicken on it. I think I’ll stick to drinks only at this place.

Just because the decorations and the liveliness of this place, it gets 4 star! I got to experience sitting in a booth and on a table next to a booth. Beers are regular, not sure how much it was, my friends were drinking, but the place is poppin on fridays! And it has such a good ambiance, an old england feel… and everyone is a business man it seems.

Best pub I have tried recently in the immediate vicinity of Liverpool Street. Admittedly, that’s not saying a great deal — but if, like me, you like a decent Victorian-style boozer with a bit of character and friendly staff — plus good beers — chances are you will like this one.

Had a decent selection of real ales including a guest ale. The Doom Bar and London Pride seemed pretty well looked after. The pub has an interesting mezzanine level looking down over the bar. I also had a Haloumi salad and garic bread which was pretty good although not a huge portion. All in all a nice pub just spitting distance from Liverpool st station.

Have snuck in here for a cheeky lunch once or twice. Great wooden décor & seating. The place was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666 yet was rebuilt — — is said to be quite haunted by those who perished in the fire. Will continue to go in here due to it’s location and cheekiness.
