Good size of restaurant. Good place too hang out with friends for sure and be loud. The restaurant located on the lower level. Very neat. Feel like in a basement(the US way to call the lower level). We dined on Sunday night and the crowd was pretty good. Off course we got to try their fish and chip too. It’s huge and very good. Just slow service though, so be aware.

Cozy, good food, great service. Loved this place! My travel companion is vegan and was able to find filling food(veggie burger), and I had an awesome chicken burger. The server was kind enough to allow us to rest there a while. Never felt rushed. Highly recommend!

The White Hart was at the right place and the right time. We’d done about seven miles of walking through Southwark and then along a great route through the old city. It was a Saturday, which I learned(to great disappointment) meant that the pie and mash shop we wanted to go to was closed since it was in more of a business than residential district. In a pie and ale frame of mind, we marched on and soon spotted the White Hart. It was the first Nicholson’s pub we hit on our weeklong stay in England, so the menu hadn’t gotten boring and repetitive like it would later in our trip. Plus I’d walked a long way and breakfasted lightly enough that I felt just fine about getting the ploughman’s – which included half a pork pie – pie needs met! – and was glad that I did. My wife’s veggie sausage and mash came out as pork sausage and mash, and the poor nice kids working there were falling all over themselves apologizing about it, which was nice but unecessary – we’re easy-going, and these things happen. The veggie sausage was great, as was the gravy. It gave me veggie sausage envy – haven’t found one as good in the US. The downstairs dining area is really cute – if we were in the vicinity again(esp. on a weekend) I’d definitely consider checking that out.

The White Hart was a friendly-looking and popular pub across the street from the Andaz Hotel. I stopped in here twice, once for a beer, and another time for lunch. On my beer run after work, the main bar was absolutely packed to overflowing, and about 20 people were drinking out front. It took me so long to get a beer myself that I almost left in annoyance; It really did feel like I was purposely being passed over when the barmaids took everyone’s order but mine, even later arrivals. But then finally I had my Doombay in hand. The next day, on a lunch visit with coworkers, we headed downstairs to the restaurant. I wasn’t in the mood for a big meal, so I ordered a salad — it was pretty good, but was pre-dressed with a very liberal amount of dressing; I suppose I should have asked for it on the side. Beer this time was the brand name of the ownership chain: a Nicholson’s pale ale. Good, but I could barely taste the hops. The curving walls and ceiling downstairs looked old, so we asked the waitress about the history. She pointed us to a descriptive illustration on the opposite wall; The area we were standing was built in 1377 — uh yeah… that’s old!

Positioned next to Liverpool Street station. It has be said that the food was on the good side of average but not worth the cost that was charged. Beer was ok but a rather weak selection available, again overpriced. The staff seemed nice but had a lack of understanding of English which can be an issue when trying to order food.

A very nice Nicholsons pub, located right outside Liverpool Street Station. The pub itself is lovely with that old-fashioned feel Nicholsons pubs cultivate. The beer range is decent, with usually six or so rotating cask ales and two permanent(like Fullers or Wandle). Prices are average, bartenders are fine. If you’re looking to kill some time before catching a train, this would likely be your best option in the area.

I’m going to go with th last reviewer. Decent, if uninspired pub food. The pies were fine. The same pies as at the Black Friar, but somehow they taste a bit down. The good: Loads of seating space, upstairs and downstairs. Real Ales on tap(2 house, 2 guest), though they’re not hooked up downstairs(this is probably a bonus, as they probably don’t get much turnover down there). Close to Liverpool Street, and you’ll probably get a table, because of: The Bad: wide selection of flavourless lagers for your drinking… whatever reason people drink lagers. Boring tatty«pubby» decôr. and The ugly: Staff sometimes rude; early shutdown of the downstairs(it was half-full, and all we wanted was to finish the chips we had). Fruit machines, a particular anti-favourite of mine– no one plays them. They’re annoying. Get rid of them. Or sell up and move to Essex or Blackpool.

Decent pub food. The pies are standard, which means hearty and decently flavored(with a little bit of extra salt and pepper). The chips were surprisingly bland. No footie during a major match though, which was a little odd.

Just a few steps from Liverpool St Station, this pub can get quite busy of an evening. The pub is on the ground level, but there’s a nice eatery downstairs where my friend and I had the best pies! We were wondering why it was taking so long, but when it came out we were delighted — the pastry was handmade and the steak and ale was delicious. It also came with vegetables and gravy. I thought I’d be good and ask for water, but I didn’t say tap water, and it turned out 10p dearer than my friend’s coke!

This pub is pretty standard for the city, but for some reason it attracts the nicer kind of city folk. It’s a large bar with an upstairs eating area having a standard pub menu, but lots to choose from. The bar has a large screen for sports, which can get a little irritating for someone the not-so-sporty types. They have a wide range of drinks, and waiting long at the bar is a rare occurance. The staff are friendly, but seem to have a problem differentiating from corona and peroni — so watch which fridge they go for!
