Was better before they changed the layout. Used to love the social element and the tables that ran along the bar. Now it’s individual booths and aimed towards food only, so not really as local pub like. But the food is good and it’s pretty ok.

I love this pub. It’s one of our locals and the atmosphere is always happy and friendly. It’s a cozy gastropub with a nice mix of furniture/modern decoration and very dog friendly! Good drinks menu with a good selection of interesting cask ales. The food menu looks so great but I haven’t eaten here yet(probably because it’s a little pricey if I’m honest). They have a pub quiz on Tuesdays at 8pm, which I want to try out sometime! Location wise it faces the heath which makes it so enjoyable sitting by the window looking out.

Since the refurb(which is mostly just a few new tables and some updated pumps) their drinks selection has dwindled, and the food selection has followed suit. The food has always been good, no question, but they don’t really serve anything I enjoy drinking. But working in another local pub, it was our local watering hole away from home

This pub is cozy in winter and has great atmosphere all year round. Right in the heart of blackheath overlooking the Heath.

Being my local pub, I was becomming very disappointed with the slipping standards of service at the Princess of Wales. Fortunately, the management seem to have taken notice and are working hard to improve things. It’s a nice place for a drink, especially on weeknights when it’s not too busy. They have a good choice of draught beers and lager, as well as wines. I go there at least a few times each month. That said, the service when ordering food is still quite slow, so I wouldn’t go there if I wanted a meal.

The service is poor, the atmosphere hostile(especially on a sunday when everyone is fighting for a table), the food’s not great and it’s very overpriced. The only good thing is when you can go in there, grab a beer and sit on the heath on a hot sunny day.

A nice pub with a fabulous back garden, The Princess of Wales is a very popular place to be on a Sunday afternoon if you’re a family. I sat in the garden and ordered a beef roast which took about a half hour to come out. The pub was busy, so I didn’t mind the delay in service, but I wish they had mentioned it when I placed the order. While I sipped my ale and waited for my meal, I took in the ambiance: the garden has long banquet-style tables surrounded by smaller picnic-style tables. Plenty of space to sit, and with umbrellas and a partially covered area in the back of the garden, it would be a great place to spend an afternoon on a warm summer day. My roast was mediocre and not worth £13 in my opinion. The meat was a bit cold and the Yorkshire pudding was hardened. I probably wouldn’t go there for a roast again, but the other food that was coming out of the kitchen looked tasty– the menu includes typical pub fare like burgers and pies, but also pork belly salads with apples and sweet potatoes. The inside is big as well, divided into two main areas: the conservatory-like dining room, and the darker(cozier) front room with windows that look onto the heath. There are two bars inside(though only one was open on a busy Sunday afternoon) that service each area separately. The Princess of Wales is a nice pub with a nice garden and a nice menu. But it’s just nice: nothing great, but not bad either. Nice.

Not an expert on these things by any means, but we had a pleasant time out back and the fish and chips were good.

This pub has a lovely relaxing beer garden to wind down in. Perhaps the staff have been taking advantage and that is why the service inside is so lethargic. The pub isn’t up to much inside. The layout felt a little bit awkward somehow and the beer selection was disappointing considering there were a handful of brews on.

Great location, mostly good food(although the roast dinners are a bit hit and miss), and a good vibe. Good for couples or groups with dogs or babies. A good pub could become a great pub if it would only hire a few more staff members! It is always busy so I really dont understand why they have so few bar staff. When its peak hour its a joke trying to get a drink or order food. I do like this place for many reasons and so will always give it another go but they really need to sort their staff out and hire a few more people, considering the amount of money they musgt be raking in I am sure they can afford it.

First time here and it was for lunch on a Sunday, I do actually feel I was missing the accessory of a baby or a dog(kudos as dog friendly), definitely a young family place(with a few group of friends thrown in for good measure), but don’t worry even if you didn’t have the latest must haves — it’s well worth a visit I love the style of this place, light from the large windows overlooking the blackheath and the conservatory at the back gives a funky ambience. It got v busy around lunch time and we had to wait a while for our food(although they were v nice about it and we were offered compliementary drinks). I just wish it was worth the wait, the salad was fresh and ok, just boring… green iceberg lettuce a couple of red pepper slices with a few more ingredients which all would have been great if only it came with dressing, or even some condiments that you could choose yourself — ketchup or mustard didn’t really go Only had a couple of drinks here, g&t was good(well known brands as standard and not the cheap stuff), but don’t go for the house wine(I actually left mine — which is rare) but they do have other wines by the glass that are deffo worth drinking Even though food wasn’t the best and I will have to pay a bit more for the wine(nothing new for me :))…I will definitely come back, it’s just such a great feeling pub… it just makes you want to stay for the whole Sunday

The Princess of Wales looks out directly onto the heath at Blackheath, and during the summer is popular with groups who want to take their drinks outside and sit on the grass(plastic cups provided for this purpose). Inside, the pub is really divided into two zones, each with its own bar. The larger room runs through to a conservatory area at the rear, outside of which there is an area of seats and tables. There are also a few seats outside the front of the pub, which are good for catching some late afternoon/evening sunshine in the summer months. Good range of beers, also does good food, and is popular with family groups for lunches, etc

Love going to the Princess of Wales in the summer and seeing all the people out on the heath, there’s normally an hundred plus people just laying on the grass with their beers lapping up the sunshine. A nice place with a great atmosphere, usually packed however could do with some better music.

One of those local/visitor pubs that always has a good mix of regulars and some people who have just wandered in. Used to drink over the road in O’Neills and in the Prince before heading into London and there is certainly a proper pub and landlord feel to the place rather than one of those pubs that has staff from here, there and everywhere running it. Not the sort of place i’d ideally take a lady unless I was going to sit outside which is a good place to watch the world go by but certainly a good spot at the start or end of an evening with the lads.

A traditional pub with a modern slant, located at the top of Blackheath. Old wooden furnishings blend with a slightly more modern vibe in the this jovial pub. Food is available, with a decent beef burger most tastes will be catered for. There is a large heated patio at the back and in the Summer a sometimes more pleasant option can be to take your pint out on to the heath. A good all year round pub with good décor and a decent patio area.

this place was halfway between our house and the restraunts, so handy for a wee when you are pregnant! it’s a bit of a shabby, laddy pub and I can’t recommend the food, but for a pint it’s ok. I sat outside and had lunch once, it really wasn’t the best ever, it didn’t help there were lots of bees. It’s always really busy and people are always sitting on the wall, they sell beer in plastic beakers for you to go and sit on the heath too. On a sunny day there are loads of people there.

i would go to the pow, the food’s ok, but there really is’t much in the way of ales and bitters. overall though i’d recommend you visit– staff are polite, food is good, the pub is clean and friendly(whats more you can sit on the heath during the summer!)

Good service & decent range of ales on(including Deuchars). Pleasant atmosphere in the beer garden on a Saturday afternoon so stayed for a couple rather than shoving off after one.
