Nice pub, and a decent selection of drinks. I have to say though, they have way too many flies or fruit flies. It was really distracting and annoying. The service was OK. I didn’t eat anything, especially with the flies, but I enjoyed the company of my co workers. After work, the place was very full, and hard to stand or find a seat, but within 35 – 60 minutes the place emptied out.

Got to love this old man’s pub. Perfect to square away a nice pint before heading home after a long day at work! It also has old fashioned partitions which I really like.

The Barley Mow is currently one of my work locals and boasts that it is «the oldest pub in Marylebone». It definitely feels old when you walk in, this is one traditional English boozer — I’m talking naff carpet, poxy tables and stools, nuts behind the bar. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea — but I rather like it. More so, it has some booths on the left hand side as you walk in(keep walking round, you’ll find them). They are good secret spots for groups and quite often they are free since no one ever bothers to go and check. From there, you get your own gap at the bar and it’s plain sailing. No frills, combined with decent alcohol reserves = win.

I have been here a few times whilst waiting to meet people and have found it to do what it says on the tin, ‘old traditional pub’ The quirk to this place is the little booths that others have already mentioned, I’ve never sat in one of them but they look good as they do give you direct access to the bar. I wonder if you are in one of the them if you get priority service??? The thing I do like about this pub is that it has a good pint of Guinness. Alongside this they have a selections of traditional Ales, Ciders and a decent election of spirits, although I cannot recall seeing anyone drinking them? I like the fact that this pub has not gone the way of many others and no I don’t mean closed down but actually stayed a simple pub serving beers and other such delights. I have never been here and it was empty there are always people, the sound of conversation and glass being filled and emptied.

I actually really like this place, mainly for its plain-ness and the fact it has small booths on the left of the bar that can fit about 5 or 6 people and gives you a lot of privacy and direct access to the bar. Is a great place to get pretty drunk amongst friends and not have to worry about losing your seat, elbowing your way to the bar or making too much noise and disturbing your neighbours. The beer choice is pretty limited to a few lagers and a small range of local bitters(which does actually add to the ‘local’ pub feel) but it could do with adding a few more mainstream or more niche drinks into the mix. This place seems to have a group fo regulars that look as if they have spent too many days sitting in this pub and can sometimes feel dreary, it looks pretty unclean at times and the toilets leave a lot to be desired. However, I am a regular here, it is a good old fashioned pub and I like that. It sells beer, it has friendly service at the bar, a VERY small selection of crisps and there is no loud music in your ears so is a great place for friends to come chata and have a laugh over a few beers. Give it a try, you will likely be surprised how much you like the simpleness of the place — I know I was

An old fashioned pub that does what you’d expect… serves a wide selection of beers from an old-timey draught. Friendly enough barkeep took care of me and they have little booths from which you can do your scheming or if weather permits you can take a seat outside as I did.

Oh dear… I still remember waking up the morning after our visit to the Barley Mow and not feeling as great as I felt when leaving the pub the night before. It wasn’t even a late evening(London pubs do close early after all), but we had started drinking quite early and didn’t eat much(note to self: go to Chipotle before coming here next time). What I really like about this pub is the unpretentiousness. It’s not trying to be a gastropub, but it is still a pub in the old tradition where folks from the neighbourhood swing by to have one pint or another… or another. Given that this is Marylebone, it probably is a lot of office worker who work nearby(just like myself). When my colleague first told me about this place, he referred to it as an old-men’s pub and I was a little suspicious about this, as I expected drunken old men hanging by the bar and nursing their Guinness. But it wasn’t at all like this: there are for sure people of all different wings of life, but there were no loners, but mostly folks engaged in a stimulating conversation(whatever that means ;-) The best part of this pub is the little compartments that they have — you can squeeze in their with maximum 4 – 5 people, but once you’re in there, it is like a whole different world and you can’t help but discussing the bigger purpose in life…

A great irish pub for an after work drink. My friend recommended getting a cider, which I did and I was really happy with that choice. The price for two big glasses was around 7£ if I remember correctly. Pretty cheap! My favorite thing about the Barley Mow are the small wooden booths that give you an intimate feeling although you are in the middle of a bar. Really cute and really comfy! Ive never seen a bar set up like this in Germany and must say I like it a lot. Other than that staff was fast and friendly, drinks were filled up to the rim and the prizes were reasonable. Go check it out when youre around!

Following on from the above comments, this place is open again now and I went last night. The cubicles are totally bizarre — any more than 4 people and they get crowded hot and quite smelly, but if there was only 2 or 3 of you and you wanted a private section of bar and not to be disturbed by the general public they would be ideal. Tried a couple of ales but wasn’t a huge fan so had perronis after that, its always nice to have perroni on tap. Feeling pretty rancid today but that’s not the pub’s fault.

Went past yesterday and the refurb of flats above is complete, lick of paint to the pub outside and supposedly re-opening in time for the bank holiday weekend, which would be great. Its interior is listed so the snugs /cubicles will still be there on re-opening

Very pretty(Grade II listed) but not great. Limited selection of ale and Sky TV was about it for facilities. No food though and some of the staff weren’t terrific to be honest. As the description above details, it’s main draw was that it had tiny little booths on one side of the bar which I was told were used by pawnbrokers among other nefarious activities. — Sad to say, that this pub closed down last year. Happy to say(after a bit of an edit to this review) that it is now opening again! I’ll change my above review from 2 years ago if I happen to go there soon. Promise.
