No longer even called the Iron Duke, it’s been the«Beer House» since 2014. Décor, menu, and beer looked promising enough. Neither person behind the bar knew what a cheese board or rarebit were, despite being on the menu, or you know, living in England. We had to point on a menu before they realized they served it. Yet they knew to try to upsell us on the«4 appetizers for 15 pounds» deal. Five minutes after we sat down they told us they had no cheese board and offered us the nachos(more expensive) with no extra cost. Another five minutes later we were told there was no rarebit and shown a menu that had 75% of the menu crossed out. Was this a restaurant at all? There weren’t even four appetizers available, why did they offer that?! I ordered sausages from the grand choices of fish sticks or sausages. After quite a long time for a restaurant inside a train station, the food appeared. A handful of measly greasy sausages for five pounds with nothing but mustard to accompany them. The nachos barely had any cheese nor the beans mentioned on the menu. Even the coke glass or ice smelled strangely fishy, everyone loves a dirty tap line. Certainly the strangest eating experience.

Did you know you had to order your own booze at the counter? I didn’t. Thank you Iron Duke for teaching this Canadian how it’s done in England. Although I’m sure they wondered why some random girl sat at a table desperately trying to make eye-contact with them. The service here was quite friendly but the prices were most certainly on the steeper side(what else would you expect at a train station, eh?) considering the quality. While it is in a train station, the characters mulling about this place were a bit odd, so I recommend you chill out on the second floor as it’s a bit more relaxed there. Also, in the station as a whole you can get free wifi(Cloud Wifi) if you set up an account. So if you’re looking for a quick drink before heading off or you’re looking for a relaxing meet up, this place is sufficient. But I wouldn’t recommend grabbing an entire meal here.

Came here to get their burger deal which was posted on a couple of boards on the wall. For £9.50 you get a burger with chips and a beer(can only choose between fosters and amstel). The burger was the absolute worst thing I’ve ever had. The Burger King next door is serving better burgers. No joke. I can’t really describe it other than it tasted like they used old fats from crappy beef and heated it back up to make a fake burger. I have never complained at a restaurant to a waiter until this day. He said absolutely nothing, took my burger and left. Therefore, this place is lucky not to get zero stars.

Went there for a quick pub lunch while I was in the area, it’s a fairly small station pub with the bar downstairs and extra seating upstairs. Fairly standard pub food menu but one interesting thing is their express menu which they guarantee to serve within 13 minutes of ordering(why 13 I do not know) or you get a refund.
