I don’t know what’s rubbed off on The Rub in recent months, but it’s gone and all grown up. It once reminded me of Bayside’s Cafeteria ‘The Max’; a sort of deliberately graffitied hang out; a ‘milk bar’ for teens perhaps, used to the Nandos ordering system. Filling in a form to order was more like taking a multiple choice GSCE in media studies than dining out for a posh pulled pork Sanger. If I’ve been doing admin all day for the pigging love of a black spot, the least you could do is write down what I want to eat, and simply tell the chef, or do I need to tweet that now? My forgiving dinner date persuaded me that it was high time I cast my aspersions aside and try it again to celebrate the new rouge and romantic candlelit interior we noticed as we passed and the news they were finally awarded a liquor licence with a rather great bottled booze list. We still sat with the Ramones and a neighbouring group of mature and fashionably local types. With a wry smile and a nod toward the waitress coming towards us to take our order, my dinner date also pointed out that there was also cutlery and condiments laid out on the table. Much better, Rubs no more, Thank You and its seems your beans have also improved with a bit of homemade love too.

Not sure what the other reviewers have had problems with service wise. We had no need to go up and order and the staff were very attentive. Big tick from me there. We all went for the same burger which was on the specials board. Pulled pork, burnt ends and smoked bacon! It was amazing. The burnt ends particularly good… Although eating them in a burger is best described as tricky. Also have to recommend the fried pickles for something a bit interesting from the side menu. Anyway great burger. Super juicy, lovely brioche bun. Mega win
