After a long run of drinking(or if you’re just hankering a quick lunch), the typical go-to is some fast and easy food along this strip of stores. Competition is tight here, with Pizza Co, Abdul’s, Il Padrino, and another pizza place(the name escapes me at the moment) all sat next to each other. I’d only ever been to Abdul’s, and it suited me fine for what I needed — a quick, late-night snack. I was never overly impressed with the food though… the meat always tended to be really dry, but that was made up for with all the sauces and toppings. I decided to try something different though, and gave Pizza Co. a try. I’m happy that I took that chance — see ya later, Abdul’s, I’m heading to Pizza Co. from now on! The service was extraordinarily friendly, with the guys behind the counter chatting lively with customers. The food availability was fast — two of my mates had gone to Abdul’s instead, and I got my food way before they got theirs. The look of the food isn’t as impressive as Abdul’s with its assorted sauces and veg, but it’s tasty and filling. I got a chicken wrap for £3, which consisted of three delicious and well-sized pieces of chicken with some shredded lettuce in a tortilla-style wrap, pressed like a panini. I added a side order of chips for another £1.10 — big portion of thick proper chips, not the thin fries offered at the nearby shops. The shop is kept clean, so we all sat inside to take a break and eat. That also means easy access to the chilli sauce if you want extra hotness for your meal(I always do), or mayo and ketchup if that’s more up your alley. I haven’t tried the pizzas here yet, but they seem like they’d be a good deal too. I definitely plan on returning and working my way through the rest of the menu.

I used to be a fan of pizza co… their spicy wings with cheesey chips was a winning combination. But something has happened over the year, new staff of new ingredients but its no longer has the wow appeal that it used to. Its now just your average fast food take-away. Shame really!

In a row of other takeaways how are you supposed to make a decision? Word of mouth? Popolino’s wins that one then. The look of the place? Hmm bright, distracting colours seems to be the theme here. Well when two girls glide on past with five pizza boxes muttering«this smells fit this does,» why not give the company for pizzas a try. So the pizza smelt fragrant but how does it taste? Well pretty much good stuff. I went for a traditional margherita as i’m often dubious with takeaways. The place was buzzing full of what seemed regulars so its clearly doing some good. Tick against the pizza co for now.

In my opinion there’s little challenge in picking a winner between Popolino’s or Pizza Co, and I’m sure that you can all predict the winner judging by the score. Yes, of course, it’s Popolino’s, since Pizza Co is mainly just substandard. Sure it tastes alright at 3 am, but so does Popolino’s, and Popolino’s tastes good even when it’s not 3 am. There’s little to add beyond this really, leading to one of my shortest reviews, I do believe. Well, sometimes there’s little to say.

Another identikit pizza & chicken & kebab & chips place, really. Except that it is far below standards set by other local places. Basically, expect dry pizzas, soggy chips and the weirdest burgers. Where they get their ketchup from, is beyond me, but it is nothing like any ketchup I have ever had. It tastes like sugar and dusty water. Not so nom. One thing this place has going for it is the friendliness of the staff. After a rave in Salford, Classy Friend and I had walked all the way to Piccadilly to find no buses, and with dead mobile batteries. So we set off walking and when we reached Pizza Co, went in for chips and to warm our bones. The nice man behind the counter let us use the phone to call a taxi, which was basically awesome of him. Still though, their pizzas ain’t all that good… at all…

Pizza Co arch nemesis to Popolino’s is fair game, the food is of equal proportion but who goes where seems to be source of divide between the student populations. Pizza co gets one over on its brother next door by doing the«co», part. This is made up of alright burgers, chips etc. Pizza Co also had a recent claim to fame when a duck tried to gain entry to the restaurant… it featured in a local paper.

Now, I think I always went here instead of Popolino’s. Right next to each other, unless they’re the same place with a little hole in the wall to pass plates in between. Now, the off-putting thing about Mediterranean pizza in Northern England is that all the crusts are thick and cornmeal encrusted. Well that and they used toppings like yellow corn and turkey. Oy!

Great fast food shop in Student area, The name says it all– but they do burgers & fried chicken aswell. Their tag line line is Pizza Co, The place to go… and a lot of people do go! It’s packed fri/sat/sun night– and quite busy during the day. It was in the M.e.n a while back as a duck tried to gain entry! The staff are really friendly, lots of seating, tv’s and music played.
