Typical student bar. Can be okay at times but when it’s really full you’re surrounded by the scientists/doctors/etc of tomorrow and it can get a bit noisy. Was there once when they had a pub quiz and I have never seen people take anything so seriously in my life!!! Nothing really bad about it if you just want a pint but I’d prefer to see it restored to it’s former glory as the railway station of my youth.

The Carriage isn’t the trendiest of bars you’ll visit by a long way, but its one of those bars you can just pop into for a relaxed drink. The music is at a level where you can still talk to the people you’re with, the staff are friendly and it never seems to get too packed out, even on Saturday night. The beer and wine has always been fine.

The carriage is a very traditional pub. There is a games machine in the corner, a roaring log fire, lots of little intimate rooms, overhead lighting and velvet seats. That said there is a great atmosphere, and it is a lovely relaxed hangout to play cards with your friends or a relaxed ‘date’ with your wife. Drinks are reasonable, and crisps are available from the bar. What they do they do properly, however do not expect cocktails and loud music here. The locals are friendly, even to students. The Carriage is not trendy, but it is a whole lot of fun.

Definitely a non studenty bar in the tip of Jesmond. Just next to an excellent curry house(Valley Junction) too. A pleasant break from the buzz and pretentiousness) of Jesmonds popular Osborne road bars

Having come from a small town I find myself at a loss for a local in Jesmond. The rash of bars and restaurants on osbourne road leave someone like me desperate for a drink without the ‘more affluent’ students talking about nothing loudly. Step in The Carriage, based in the old Jesmond Station! Warmed by log fires and fueled by real ales this winter it’ll be our main meeting place before walking into town. No doubt I’ll attempt to get everyone to stay there though
