The Godfather

I’ve been to the Godfarther restaurant over a decade ago and it was brilliant, however I visited recently and it had been taken over by a new owner. The new Godfarther was appalling! The food was obviously frozen packaged food (the type you get from Iceland supermarket) reheated, soggy pasta with cheap pre-​bought sauce. The service was horrible dull and depressed I couldn’t wait to leave! I had also pre-​arranged with the owner for a sparkler to be in the dessert as it was my partners birthday, well he forgot, actually he didn’t even seem to notice we were there. Terrible!

I took my girlfriend here and frankly was embarrassed after we left. When you first go in there was no buzz to the place, it was dark, dingey and absolutely stunk! The place was very behind the times and needs money spent on it, BIG TIME. The staff were so unprofessional, they were just kids, chavvy girls who were bitching about people amongst themselves. They were also very stand off-​ish. The guy who took our order had disgusting teeth and really put us off, not ideal when your about to eat. We had prawn starter kind of dish which were awful, and blatantly bought in from somewhere like Iceland (the frozen food store, unfortunately not the actual country.) because they just looked plastic and not fresh or home-​made at all, we know restaurant and spend a lot of time in them because we are eat-​out maniacs and they were just not fresh, they were «stick in a microwave and heat up». However, my pizza was delicious, a tad greasy and I think my partner enjoyed her’s to some extent. Overall, not good, I’d say quit while you can, because other places are just going to take your business away. Afterwards, we wish we had went to Luigi’s down the big market, 3 courses for 7 quid and its absolutely spot on down there.

a mixed bag here. it looks like a cheap dive and the staff are an unusual blend of sarcastic and stand offish. the food however is unreal, my girlfriend and I couldn’t believe how good it was. if you can stomach the bad décor and weird staff its definately worth it

Have always relied on Godfather as a good fall back if there’s nowhere else we want to try. Good range of dishes, well cooked and we’ve always been well looked after.

I have always found the Godfather to be a good restaurant and have never had reason to complain.
They are especially good with pasta’s and pizzas but this is what you would only expect being an Italian.
Prices are not expensive and they are busy both at lunchtime and evening.
