I had a veggie soup and a buffalo mozzarella sourdough sandwich with pesto sauce and tomatoes ! Was so good I managed to finish the soup which was so filling and yummy! So I had to take the sandwich for takeaway! Service is good and the prices are reasonable Highly recommended this place. I would defiantly be back here

We had plans to see Interstellar earlier this month at the Swan Theatre in Rathmines. I don’t get over to Rathmines as often as I like so I was excited to have an excuse to grab dinner somewhere before hand. Kafka is conveniently located on the main road just before the theatre so made the perfect location for our meal. I grabbed a seat while J ran to get the tickets and was promptly greeted by the waitress. They had a reasonably priced wine list so I ordered a bottle of red and sifted through the menu. When she returned with the wine, I ordered the calamari frittes to start and the Jamaican jerk chicken and tiger prawn risotto for the mains. J returned a few minutes later which was just in time for the calamari. The calamari was light and good. Certainly not the best out there but it was nice. The waitress collected our plates and before we knew it the mains had arrived. My chicken had nice presentation and was heavenly. Tender chicken with spicy and sweet seasoning that was perfectly matched with the mango, coriander and lime salsa. So nice! I also enjoyed the potatoes and asparagus that came with it — such a great dish for less than € 16. J’s dish was also nice. His tiger prawn risotto was seasoned with saffron and came with fresh spinach. Good portion and flavours. Unfortunately we had to dash out before dessert but we enjoyed a great meal at a great price so will definitely return.

Went here for lunch with a group of friends, about eight of us and a baby. The waitress was helpful and moved tables around for us before we all went in and had no problem with a buggy. There was two families in there at the time so they obviously accommodate this which is great as it’s hard to find places in Rathmines. We all went for the soup and sambo combo which I thought was a little pricey but when it arrived the beef and veg soup was hearty and hot, a great belly filler and the sambo wasn’t too shabby either. Filled my belly for the day so this makes me happy and have returned many times since.

Went here on a deal from menupages. About 5 mins on the bus and the bus stop was right out! Great start! The atmosphere was beautiful and relaxing and the staff were just en pointe. Food was great quality, hearty portions and decent price. Definitely check it out! Side note; The peanut butter cheesecake is gorgeous.

Heston Blumenthol ate here and came back the following day. The fact the staff weren’t aware of who he was. makes the story even more endearing! So, if it’s good enough for Heston. well, enough said. Don’t worry, nothing blows up in your face as you sink your fork, it’s just good honest grub at a great price. Chicken wings and Chicken burger are the things to go for.hmmmmm.

Great place on the main street of Rathmines. Nicely cooked fresh food, I had the burger with everything which I have to say would kick the ass of JoeBurger accross the street! The staff are a chilled bunch and good at what they do. Ill be back

Kafka is a little clinical in appearance. A few scatter cushions are the only soft furnishings, which serve to emphasize the clean lines of square wooden tables and chrome till area at the back. In the evening, this is softened somewhat with tea-lights, but it can look a bit too unwelcoming during the day. However, the food is glorious. Ingredients used seem to be as fresh as can be, it is prettily served, comes in generous portions, and is well within a ‘reasonable’ price range. I would definitely make the effort to ‘go’ here, rather than simply wander in in passing. They lost a point here because there are a few too many single tables out on the floor. As it was busy, I was uncomfortably close to the people next to me and had to listen to their conversation. Also,(perhaps just because it was busy?) I felt a great deal of pressure to hurry up over eating my lunch and leave the table free. It would have been a bit nicer to linger with my coffee for a while, but the lunch was so good it was actually nearly worth being hurried out.

It wasn’t easy to give Kafka 5 stars. Two 5 star ratings, and i’ve only reviewed 3 restaurants. Makes my ratings a tad meaningless! Great atmosphere, food is flawless, friendly staff, and reasonably priced. Can it get any better.

I went here for the first time in for years for dinner and had exactly as I expected — the same no frills crisp, clean restaurant and service which lets the good quality food speak for itself. No overpowering flavours nor over-priced meals on the menu. Just good, classic dishes immaculately implemented and a credit to the owners.

My favourite lunch place in Rathmines. Good service, good food, good atmosphere and good value. Try the ‘hearty soup’ option for lunch — it’ll keep you going for the afternoon !

What a place — although I have not had evening time dinner there I can totally concur with the previous reviewers. I love the laidback ambience and the staff /owners are professional and friendly. If you need a ‘snack’ you must check out the ‘hearty soup’ it’ll keep you going for the rest of the day ! Lunch time sees a mixed crowd of business suits, local DIT lecturers and some students. Average cost of a main lunch course is c.€ 10. Well worth a visit when you’re next in downtown Rathmines, Dublin 6.

Just back from lunch there, and it was really good. The lunch menu is reasonably priced and varied. So no trouble if you’re with a group, since even the pickiest of eaters will find something. It took a while for us to get our food, but it was very busy, so I’m not too upset about that. Especially since the salmon I got was really delicious. Service was way more attentive than I expected, which is a nice change from the service with a scowl that you get elsewhere. Oh, and I agree with Maire B on the name, from the outside it looks a little bit pretentious. But once you’re inside its quite cute and relaxed.

Kafka is the kind of restaurant that the food is good and the staff is friendly, but it’s just lacking a bit of warmth. I would definitely suggest it for a dinner or a nice change of scenery from your usual restaurant. Though I’ve gone and said that it lacks a bit of warmth, I think that it can really be confined to the daytime service, whereas in the evening time it’s bustling and there’s a warmth coming off from the candles. That said I can’t suggest it for a hungover brunch, which is when I first ventured here. The food was a bit too, not fancy, but just not good solid grub, baked brie is delicious, but not after a night out when your tummy is feeling a bit dodgy. There’s plenty of other places to go for a nice comforting brunch, so skip Kafka and come back in the evening time when the menu is a bit more varied and those jaeger bombs have hopefully worn off!

This is a really nice modern themed restaurant, which isn’t half as pretentious as the name implies. They do food throughout the day with a good lunch and dinner trade. On weekends they do a pretty satisfying breakfast, and if you go to dinner there you’ll likely find yourself lingering over a glass of wine. The menu changes depending on the time of day but it’s pretty good value for what you get.

Everyone who is tired of the city centre scene should escape to Rathmines where there are a bunch of notable restaurants, pubs and shops to keep you entertained. I know it’s a struggle for all of us who live in the city centre, but visiting Rathmines is worth it, especially because of the restaurant Kafka. Just hope on the 15A outside of Trinity and 10 minutes later you’ll be on the main drag of the village. The owners of Kafka are all long time employees of the trade and they have done their best to offer customers an enjoyable dining experience. It’s a small place so it’s the perfect place for a romantic meal. For a reduced cost, you’ll have great wine and some of the most classic dishes.

Very nice staff, serving decent Italian cuisine. The menu is dominated by fresh fish and meat dished, but you’ll also find assorted pasta and risotto. As my predecessor pointed out, there are some really nice vegetarian options, e. g. I had a fennel soup of the day and spinach and ricotta tortellini. Prices are reasonable, and even the wine list doesn’t make you cry after your money afterwards. Definitely a recommendation in the area.

Kafka is a lovely little restaurant /café in Rathmines. It is unpretentious and perfect for a filling lunch with friends or a hangover Sunday brunch. Having only ever been there for lunch, I can only comment on that menu which is reasonably priced and changes daily. There are a variety of sandwiches, salads, soups and hot dishes. Don’t be fooled in thinking that there is anything typical or boring about that selection — there isn’t. The dishes are carefully prepared and interesting. Hopefully you’ll be lucky and get the seafood soup, a bucket of rich tomato soup filled with huge chunks of seafood and shellfish. There are also good choices for vegetarians — a hummus, roasted pepper and rocket sandwich on wholegrain bread was my selection. Tasty and filling. Reasonable priced, pleasant café. Well worth a visit.
