Well… it’s a pub, in a part of town where there aren’t that many of them. I only ever stop by because someone else suggests it, so I can’t say I’m a fan. But it’s not dreadful either, so here’s what I think about it. It’s quite big, with two floors, though usually the top floor remains closed. Downstairs there’s different types of tables, high stools, corner tables with sofas, the works, which suits all kinds of groups. The staff is quick enough to take your orders and check the tables. Lots of beer and cider taps, and they seem to be trying to get on the craft beer wagon, but still pouring mostly anything from Coors to Heineken. Can’t comment on the food because I never tried any, from what I’ve seen it seems like regular pub grub and it’s priced accordingly. To my surprise it gets quite lively during the evenings, with college students and workers from the area. It also can get too noisy, as they bring in a DJ on Fridays, and he’s not afraid of turning the volume all the way up while he plays guitar covers of all the radio hits you could possibly imagine. It can get a bit annoying, especially if you’re trying to hold a conversation. Anyway, it’s an ok place to sit outside with a beer and enjoy the afternoon sun. Not particularly enticing by itself, but it covers all your pub basic needs without many downsides to it.

You know after a few visits this place really came into its own. First off, it’s great for sports. They always have the match on, and will have multiple matches on the various selection of tellys around the place. They also do really good Buffalo Wings, which is an added bonus. Now, during weekdays they only do carvery, but its a good carvery. I personally prefer to order off the menu which they recently updated and is available on the weekends and evenings as it has some great things including an amazing burger. The staff are lovely and no matter if the place is packed or not, it’s always good craíc.

One of those big cavernous generic kinda pubs, Lagoona does what it says on the tin. It kind of reminds me of Wetherspoons or one of those chains in the UK. Not much soul, but plenty of room, and everything you should need at your fingertips. They have a big carvery section that does a selection of the usual. Yesterday you could pick between Thai green curry, spag bol, and your usual carvery meats with accruements. The chef was polite, the food was good quality and the portions are large — sure how could ye complain! It’s somewhere you might go on a big of a session with your mates, or maybe somewhere to sneak off to for a quick lunchtime pint with a plate of comfort food in front of you. Maybe not somewhere you’d bring a date or a potential business partner, but hey, it most certainly serves it’s purpose.

We popped in here on a tuesday night. I had an appointment in the area. It’s what I call a ‘wanker’ bar. It completely lacks soul and atmosphere. First of all, its a leftover of excess from the celtic tiger. It’s huge(2 floors) and there were only about 5 people in there including us. We sat at the bar and had to constantly wave the bartender over for service. I can’t stand that when a place is not busy. I had a side order of chips which were good though. I would definitely check out another place in the area before coming here again.

Honestly it’s Pub food, what do you expect?! Don’t get me wrong I’ve had better Pub food but it filled the gap. Lagoona is one of those places that certain items on the menu you just don’t order(like veggie stir fry, spring rolls could have been better). Personally I would stick to the sandwiches and chips(even thought the chips were a bit under cooked). The service was friendly and quick, one guy took care of 2 small tables and 2 large ones with ease. I couldn’t get over on how much space there was, huge long bar, 4 or 5 couches, seated benches, tall tables and chairs. I believe there even was a private area upstairs. I bet it gets crazy at night with the college across the street but I’ll stick to grabbing some lunch or maybe just a pint and watching a match on one of their many tv’s.

We were trying to locate another place with no luck, so we decided on Lagoona. The space was fine and the bartender/waiter was great(running around a lot); but the food, not so great. We ordered some some veggie spring rolls, which tasted like frozen appetizers I would buy at Trader Joe’s at less cost. The veggie stir fry? Mistake. Full of sodium and would have had a decent frozen dinner from Trader Joe’s. The chicken sandwich was fine, but some of the fire were under cooked. Loved watching the futbol match on the big screen, but would not go back here for any chow.

Not bad for a spot of lunch. Sandwiches are standard fare, but they are fresh and the ingredients are good quality. This is a very large bar, and it is fairly empty at lunch time. Must try it for a few pints some night over Xmas, they always seem to have deals advertised on their boards. Friendly staff too.

I’ve lived practically next door to this place for 8 months now and not ventured in so on Friday night we decided to give it a go for some food before heading into town. It’s quite nice inside, clean and lots of comfy leather couches. It reminded me a bit of some of the nicer chain bars I used to frequent in the UK, modern but a touch soulless despite the strong after work crowd in one corner. We ordered some bar food, cajun chicken burger for myself and lasagne for him. It came very fast and my burger was nice, as bar food goes. His lasagne however looked fairly stodgy and like it had recently seen the inside of a microwave. The verdict: A nice place for a pint after work on a Friday, avoid the food and they need to turn the music down a bit.
