The Lobster Pot is such an incredibly quaint, classy little place. I was a bit nervous about walking into such a fancy place by myself without reservations while travelling alone in Dublin, but I was too excited about this place to pass it up. The waiters were such gentlemen — attentive, well-dressed, and so welcoming and respectful. I was greeted with a large tray displaying all of the fresh seafood they were offering that night. I ordered the special, a dish of lobster, fish, and prawns with creamed potatoes in a cream sauce. It was sooo decadent and amazing! I had been seated next to the lavish dessert tray full of all kinds of tasty treats, so of course, I couldn’t resist ordering a dessert even after the incredibly rich and filling meal I’d just had. I ordered the honeycomb cake, which was layered with delicate sponge cake, rich cream filling, and caramelized honey. So glad I didn’t miss out on this lovely treat. I’m always impressed when I encounter a restaurant that masters the art of simple, satisfying, comforting food done extraordinarily well. I’ll never forget this wonderful dinner!

Old school but very good food and top notch service. Visiting from the US and staying in the nearby Herbert Park Hotel. I came here to meet my Mother who traveled over from Scotland to say hello. The place is full of Irish charm and character, walking up the stairs I felt like I was back at my late Grandmother’s country house in Tipperary. Creaky stairs and a lightly musty odor. According to the staff they have been open since the early 80’s and I would guess nothing has been updated. And it doesn’t need to be as the food is fantastic. Traditional yet very tasty and perfectly cooked. I started with the French Onion Soup and then had a delightfully fried piece of Sea Bass. All with vegetables. The deserts on the tray looked to die for, but I was having a ‘good’ day and so decided to decline. The service was great and old school however as it filled up(very busy for a Tuesday night) it got a little slower. That’s OK, I was in no particular hurry.

I brought American visitors here as they wanted a lobster restaurant, so naturally I thought ‘Lobster pot’ has lobster? I believe they tried to make a reservation for 6pm on-line at some point in the morning and the site said ‘back with your reservation in 10mins’ but nothing arrived. We visited the place at 3pm, signboards were outside and menu was up but i) Doors were firmly shut and ii) the menu had NOLOBSTERDISHES on it ! They went to a neighbouring restaurant, got a reservation for 5.30, and just as they were sitting down later in said restaurant an email arrives saying ‘Reservation confirmed for 6pm, looking forward to seeing you !’ !!! Maybe it was a one-off, maybe they have too many customers and don’t care, or perhaps the Irish ‘don’t like to complain’ about shoddy service — but this was not a good way to conduct business, especially as tourists like and expect quality and SERVICE.

We enjoyed dinner at The Lobster pot on Thursday, 27 March 2014. Even though we arrived without reservations we were received very graciously and enjoyed excellent service from a very«old school» and attentive staff. This was my daughter’s first trip abroad and the staff went out of their way to make it a memorable experience for her from explaining the day’s «fruits» of the sea to offering samples from the well-provisioned desert cart. The food was excellent in quality and presentation… the pickled herring melts in your mouth and the local prawns and scallops could not have been prepared more expertly. The prawns and scallops were offered as a starter but they were quite happy to prepare mine as the main course. My wife had the cold seafood plate… impressive and delicious. The Lobster Pot is now my favorite restaurant in Dublin.

Going here was a real experience! The men serving were such classic gents and seemed to take such pride in their job, they really added so much fun and laughs to our dinner. We loved the way they came out with the trolley of fish, explaining to us how each could be cooked, advising which options they thought were best, and popping in little quips and jokes as they went through it all –they made it into a real performance and we were totally lapping it up! I’d recommend this as an ideal place to go for a parent’s/ grandparent’s birthday, as the waiter put it; «Lovely Juvley».

I noticed one reviewer makes mention to this restaurant being a time warp from the 70s. I’ll start by saying people ate well, in great restaurants in the 70s too. The standards do service, décor and food preparation are old school, no doubt, however the seafood was fresh, selection was great and service was superb. Our waiter was a career waiter and it showed. He knew the menus, knew how many different ways the chef could prepare each seafood selection and he was attentive. We arrived early(before 7:30) and there there is an earlybird special, 3 courses for € 26.95 so if you’re trying to budget but still eat a memorable meal, remember… Before 7:30. The two dishes we had the Duck and the salmon, both simple, and delicious. My wife had the sticky toffee cake for desert. We’ve never had this before and we’re now on a mission to replicate it… It was awesome. I highly recommend this place if you love food and service and don’t mind which decade it’s from.

Exception quality meal and service. A wonderful meal above our expectations. We felt the price was in line with the experience we had. Try the cod with a delicate and delicious cheese sauce and the blackberry cake/jelly roll. Good wine selection and fish varied and very fresh. Highly recommended!

A quaint old style restaurant where the servers haven’t changed in a long long time. All the fish is presented to you on a trolley so you can see exactly what you want before you order. Excellent value for fresh fish cooked well with lots of lovely side extras, potatoes, carrots, cabbage. Would recommend but watch out for the service charge.

A very old school type restaurant but not to be sniffed at none the less! — I’ve been hearing about this place long before I even moved to the metropolis! you go up the stairs into quite a plush dining room, service is great, atmos quiet and nicely lit! On to the food… we were in a hurry, early and broke so went for the early-bird(monday-friday 6 – 7.30). We both had the Lobster Pot Seafood Chowder, not at all bad, followed by Chicken Breast with Wholegrain Mustard & Whiskey Cream Sauce for me and Roast Duckling(Flamed with Grand Marnier). for her, tremendous! I said it alre4ady but it really is worth noting — this place is old school!, look at the al-la-carte to get the point… melon au port, corn on the cob? tremendous. there are very few like this any more… go, enjoy… live like it was the 80’s!
