Well after reading these reviews and asking a few people in my ‘hood’, I decided to give it shot. The handsome driver who was there under the time given, assured my this would be Amazing. Well was just a tich let down with the spanakopita(sp), but otherwise good and yummy, the calamari was sooo tender, and the potatoes were the best, I didn’t eat any lamb, but was told it was pretty good.

I put five stars so people will see this. Where do I start? As a person of Greek decent I have to say this food does not taste authentic. I mean the food is good not great, but it doesn’t taste very Greek. The thing I dislike about this restaurant is that the portions are different each time I order. This time I only got one potato with my souvlaki even though I ordered a large which usually comes with 3 the cucumber in the Greek salad is always mushy. And they give different amounts of tzatziki everytime. Also they take over an hour to deliver to me I live about 10 mins away not even. Like I said the food is good but the quality and authenticity isn’t there I wish they would step it up because I spend a lot of money here I order around a 40 $ order on average 2 times a week

Not very good. The restaurant was clean enough save for the un-bussed tables. Service not very prompt or friendly. Food was mediocre at best: dolmathes left under the heat lamp too long before coming to our table, calamari was only okay, tzatziki boring, roast lamb was more like boiled lamb shoulder. The relentless«Greek» music was annoying. We waited far too long in an almost empty dining room to be offered dessert after finishing eating. Finally got up and found our server chatting in the kitchen with the manager and asked to get our bill. No apology or offer for desert. Will NOT go back.

Called in to place an order for pick up and was quoted 25 minutes. Arrived at the restaurant 25 minutes later, it was almost empty except for one table. They did not have my order as the server had forgotten to place it. I was told my order will be rushed. Did not receive a discount for dropping my order, paid full price, and then I let the server know I will be waiting outside as since I had my dog with me. I’m outside, 15 minutes later and still nothing. I come back in. my order was ready yet the server could not even walk the order out to me when she KNEW I was waiting outside. Wasn’t exactly busy either since they had one single table. Food itself was mediocre. I had ordered a large size soulvaki but I have the feeling I was given a small size. that or their large is just a normal portion. Tzatziki sauce was too watery and not very tasty. Rice was overdone and too mushy. The service and food from the handful of Greek restaurants further down Hastings street are all better than this one. Will not be returning.

This place was a good find! It was completely dead on a Saturday night which made me a little nervous. However the food tasted good, was a good price and came super quick. Don’t know why this place isn’t busier!

Well this was a nice little find! Found on justeat and we’re never sure when we’re trying staff meals from a new place for the first time. But these guys brought hot food, on time and the order was all correct. I have only a vague recollection about where the restaurant is, but if it does the food justice we’ll definitely give it a try!

Been here twice now. One time, the visit was okay but the food took forever. Another time our experience was awful. First of all, one of the waitresses was using a large piece of cardboard to write down our order. She brought us beer that we ordered, told her that it didn’t taste like the one we ordered to which she replied«Oh, because we ran out of the one you ordered so I brought you a different kind» without asking if it was okay to bring us a substitute. Food was taking forever since placing our order. Every time the waitress came over she seemed out of breath and kept holding onto the backs of our chairs even though there were only two tables in the restaurant actually filled. Asked to have a caesar salad and an extra potato as a side instead of the greek salad. When it arrived… completely forgotten. So it took even more time to get my correct order. Terrible service. Food is okay if you are willing to wait 30 minutes or more.

Tried this for the first time last night. Cheap, big portions but it made us all sick. We ordered 1 lamb soulvaki, 1 chicken soulvaki, 1 spanokapita meal, 1 spanokapita apply, 1 pita appy. The delivery came fast, service was good, the food was super affordable, but it didn’t taste authentic. I was craving good Greek food. All I got was a lot of garlic. The next day, we all felt ill. It must not have agreed with us. I will not order again.

Like all Greek restaurants, get ready for a large portion! Socrates is a restaurant that my coworkers like to go to for work parties — such as a retirement party. The reason is because they are able to accommodate large groups easily, especially on a Monday night. There is a lot of street parking after 6 pm, as well as a small parking lot which can be reached from behind the restaurant. For appitizers, I ordered Hummus to share. The pita bread was really good, but the hummus was slightly over powered with garlic and not as thick as I would like it. For my entrée, I ordered the Roast Lamb. It was a good choice. The meat just came right off of the bone. No need for a knife. The Greek salad that came with the meal was ok, as was the potatoes and rice. I would come back to this restaurant, but only for work functions. I would also like to say that the servers were wonderful and the food came out pretty quickly for a party our size(50+)

Would I come back? — No, only because they do delivery at no extra cost. And with what looks like more food for the same price. So why not eat at the comfort of your own home? Plus you get away with tipping less on delivery then dine in(cheap Asian speak).P.S. they also claim to specialize in Italian cuisine, but who goes to a Greek place and not order Greek food? But I will probably end up trying some of it one day. Would I recommend it? — Absolutely! Why are people not coming here to eat instead of lining up for hours in front if «Stepho’s». Then once seated, feeling cramped and rushed; and having to yell out their conversations in an extremely loud setting. Yes the portions may be slightly larger, but who needs to eat that much food. And yes it may be on the cheaper side but my time is worth more than saving $ 5 – 7. I guess it boils down to location, location, location. But with Greek it is always good and this is one of my go to’s for food I know will be delicious and plentiful. We always have leftover to spare. Don’t deny your cravings, enjoy good Greek in a quiet dine in setting or get them to deliver at «Socrates».

If you want to impress a date, this is it: complete awe in the décor, very classical, one section has the cool, blue sky painted in the ceiling, another section is a raised platform on your right when you walk in for private parties, it’s huge… Would love to return more, but that’s where it stops – the food’s just average. Usually i leave the pizzas to the Italians, but maybe i shld try it here as that’s how much I do enjoy the quiet ambience here. The lamb’s ok, just doesn’t have the oomph factor compared to Vassili’s. Same for the baked lasagna, which is usually one of life’s amazing dishes, but here, the tomato sauce isn’t there nor is the quality of the cheese. friendly, good service. Street parking right in front.

We just ordered delivery from Socrates Greek Taverna for the first time tonight. The food itself tastes ok, but for $ 15 a person plus tip for the minuscule portions we’re not going to order from them again. We both ordered the large Chicken Souvlaki and when I first pulled the container out of the bag I was pleased at the weight only to find there’s about 2 cups worth of rice topped with about $ 5 worth of chicken and half a potato cut into 3 pieces. Unless you’re desperate and MUST have greek food that delivers to the North Burnaby area, seriously don’t bother.

Went for dinner with my hubbie on Saturday, the food was delisious. I had calamari and they were tender and yummy, it came with greek salad rice and potatoes and the portions were huge. My husband enjoyed his chicken souvlaki also, it was tender and a generous portion. They also served hot pita bread to start which was nice. The price was very reasonable 14.95. The restaurant was very empty which was too bad as the atmosphere, music and service was great. My only reservation in giving it 5 stars is that the temperature of the room was too cool and I had to keep my coat on. So my advice to you if you go is wear a sweater and my advice to the owner is to turn up the heat.

All throughout school, Socrates was my go-to restaurant when I was too lazy to cook. Back then, they would have gotten 5+ stars from me, but I noticed on a recent trip back to Vancouver that they’ve raised their prices and reduced their portions, which makes the price-value ratio now just OK. I did notice they have weekday specials right now for $ 12.95. That’s when you want to go. $ 16.95 for their roast lamb dinner for normal deliveries now is a bit expensive. The highlight is their roast lamb. It comes with a chunk of tender lamb, rice and potatoes. Ask for their house dressing over the regular dressing. The saganaki is also delicious. I found the chicken souvlaki just comparable to other places. I’d probably go back, but only for the weekday special. It otherwise doesn’t feel worth it anymore.

So… Friends and I were getting together for dinner and decided to order takeout. Of course, since I love Greek food, I was all over the idea of getting Greek this particular evening… Since we were around the corner, they had recommended Socrates. They had been there before and the food was really good. We walked in to order out, and the place was empty. Which to me wasn’t a good sign, seeing as how it was a Sunday evening. Should be busy, right? Prices were a little high to me, compared to other Greek places I have been to, but I gave it a try anyway… We noticed that they delivered for FREE too, so after we ordered, we just went back home and waited there… Since we spent about $ 100 on 4 people, + 1 child. I was a little blown away. I told my friend that this place better be amazing, because I though it was pretty pricey for what we ordered. Food comes promptly in 30 – 35 minutes or so… which was nice. We had a few orders of Chicken Soulvaki, Tiger Prawn Soulvaki, & Chicken Parmesan. We also ordered Saganaki(fried cheese) & a side of Hummus. From my personal experience, and having to believe I know Good Greek, I’m sorry to say I was disappointed. My Tiger prawns fell short of the tiger, they were just plain little shrimp, the chicken Parm was over drenched with sauce, and the Spaghetti that came with it was too salty for my taste buds. The only thing I could say was interesting & tasty at the same time, was my friends order of Fried Cheese… From this, I can’t say that I can recommend this place or even say I would ever go back…

I’ve been to Socrates a few times for dinner with my parents and family for the most part, and it was my mom’s birthday and choice to go to Socrates for her Birthday dinner. I ordered the spanakopita as I’m a vegetarian and was unfortunately quite disappointed. It tasted like it was made, then frozen and heated up afterwards… I’m not one to complain, maybe I got a bad one by chance, but I wasn’t that impressed with the plate full of greasy rice, ½ potato and greek salad with no flavor either. My mom, dad and one brother had the lamb souvlaki and they were all very satisfied — I’m guessing that the lamb is their specialty… My boyfriend go the mixed souvlaki and was happy with his meal but also would have been happier with more potatoes and less rice… no comment from the chicken souvlaki or beef souvlaki plates to comment on so I’m guessing OK but not fantastic. The hummous and tzatziki were also only OK(and that’s being generous) — they did a good job with the warm & fresh pita bread though. I found the restaurant to be too big for the number of clients they had… we were one of three tables and one take-out order in the 1 ½ hours that we were there for… a 1 out of 5 for atmosphere and service 3 because I feel slightly bad that I’m writing such a terrible review. I won’t be back unless I am obligated by another family dinner…
