The view is fantastic and the staff is friendly but that is the only reason I gave this restaurant even two stars. The food is terrible. I had the pizza which tasted like someone opened a can of sauce and dumped it on a mediocre crust. My husband had the tabbouleh and the quesadilla. Both were below average.

Eight of us went there on a Tuesday evening. Pros: Reservation made on Open Table. Honored immediately as we entered. Beautiful setting. Magnificent views of the mountains around Canmore which was why we went there. High ceilings, lots of wood. Simple décor. Friendly service. Salmon, baby back ribs and game meatloaf were very good. Cons: Drinks were generally poorly made. Light on the appropriate liquor. Upon complaints they were replaced. Better but not great. «The» Burger(see menu) was very over cooked. Don’t order unless you like a hockey puck for dinner. Tuna, Fish and Chips and all forms of potatoes were just«OK». A bit over priced. Restrooms down a long flight of stairs. For best view sit outside, if possible.

This is a beautiful bar/restaurant in an equally stunning setting — go for drinks and perhaps appetizers but I would not recommend it for their food. The food is just«okay». Three if us went there for dinner. We ordered the steak salad, meatloaf, and pizza. All were unremarkable. If you you like your pizza crust undercooked and doughy — you will love their pizza. Meatloaf was bland and came with equally bland sides of mashed potatoes and veggies. The steak salad was okay. The food is nothing to write home about or to rave about on Unilocal

The restaurant was beautiful and the staff was amazing, but I wasn’t a big fan of the food. I had the lobster crab dip which reminded me of a tuna melt. I also had the bruschetta which was actually great. They also have really yummy sangria!

The view is stunning on the patio, and as everyone says: if for nothing else, you should come here for the gorgeous views! We rolled in around 1130 on a Saturday and were seated without any wait. On Saturday they offer a brunch menu with eggs Benny, flapjacks, among a few other choices but we were looking for lunch and ended up sticking to the regular menu. We had a few pints on the patio and ordered the true Canadian pizza to share. The pizza had loads of toppings and a fluffy crust. It wasn’t the best pizza I’ve ever had, to be honest we found it bland. The problem seemed to be with the sauce, it tasted of crushed tomatoes and onions, but seemed to lack any seasoning. I think they could easily amp the sauce up and put out a better pizza. We didn’t spend much time inside the Iron Goat, but walking through the restaurant we both thought that this place would be great for groups — there are some big tables available and even a semi-private room off to one side with one large table. Others have mentioned it’s pricey, and I agree — but in terms of dining in Canmore it’s actually pretty average. I’ll for sure be back to enjoy a beer on the gorgeous patio! Stunning 180 degree views, heaters for cooler days, and ample seating.

Funny how so many pubs combine words in order to have a memorable quirky pub-esque name. I don’t recall seeing any Iron Goats on the property but we did see some regular goats on the way to the Iron Goat. That said, we marvelled at the incredibly high ceilings and pondered on how much the heating bill must be for this place. We also thought it would make for a cool country log cabin home. The food quality and taste is what you would expect from a local quirky pub with a few little hidden surprises in the menu. The cook/chef even did some table visits. We also loved the feel of the place — very Alpine village. We had visions of skiing right through the front door while being chased by Iron Goats. We had the Fresh Mussels, Alberta Baby Back Ribs, Beer Battered Fish and Chips, and the True Canadian Pizza. All were perfectly good meals with no complaints. Perfect after a day of exploring, driving, picture taking in that ridiculous wind chill of a day. Our server was hilarious by the way. Is there such a thing as French Dry Wit? Thank you Iron Goat! Sincerely, Shane

This is a nice Canmore restaurant. Great atmosphere and views. Food is good but could maybe be a bit more focused. The crab dip was really good. Our group tried the steak, meatloaf, chicken, and a flatbread. Service a bit slow but we experienced that all week while visiting in the area. Drinks have a good selection.

Love the location, building and the service was excellent. Unfortunately my meat(bison ribs) were mediocre at best. Overall value was not there, too bad as it is a really nice spot

Walking into the iron goat, you are greeted by some very friendly staff members. Inside is a beautiful restaurant, and a very nice view of the mountains. Now for the menu, It’s a fairly good size with many items to choose from, fairly good price for everything including drinks. The food was above average and quite filling. I ordered the turkey wrap with fries and it was really good very filling, no complaints for that. The cons of the restaurant: Staff take a while to get to you when you are seated. About a 3 – 5 minute wait just for drinks, by the time I finished my beverage the waiter came back to take my order. Besides that it’s a 4 star rating. I would go back here again.

Service: mediocre, felt oft forgotten with empty glasses on table, or with closed menus waiting to place order Menu: too large and doesn’t match online menu in the slightest. When we attempted to order from the in-restaurant drink menu, the result was«we don’t have those anymore. New menu comes out in 3 days.» — what, you couldn’t keep the blender plugged in until your new menu was released? Seriously? Food: crab dip had as much salt as any other ingredient, appeared to have artificial crab in it(as opposed to promised blue crab). My wife’s chicken sandwich lacked flavour, having no seasoning or condiments. The online menu makes this place look incredible. My mouth was watering at nearly everything I read. The delivery was a massive(borderline epic) failure, though. Price: for a lunch meal with non-alcoholic beverages, the $ 40 we paid was overpriced. Overall: not impressed. Won’t be back, and certainly doesn’t deserve the« Unilocalers Love Us» sticker they have in the front window.

Went with the Meatloaf and I must say, that was the best meatloaf Ive had in a while, the meatloaf was a combo of Elk, Bison and lamb meat, so interesting combo and worked real good with each other. They do have Pepsi products here, but saw the Pineapple hefeweizen and went with that, that was actually really good and would most certainly recommend that as well as the meatloaf and this place! Would come back here that is for sure!

I went back to the Iron Goat for lunch with family visiting from NS. Last time we were here, it was a very busy Saturday night, it was OK but not what I was hoping, this time a pretty slow weekday lunch should be better! Should be… right? I REALLY want the Iron Goat to be more than it is. It’s probably just the views that make me think the restaurant should be epic. The menu’s are very well written and sound amazing. However the Goat fell short for me again. Infact, I am taking a star away from my last review. Our server was nice, but very slow. The menu was different than what they have posted online as their current menu. Drinks took a while to get, and food even longer. Tables around us that arrived 20 minutes after us got food about the same time as us. It was about 45 minutes from order time to questioning the manager where our food was, and another 10 more minutes to actually get the food. Our group ordered 2 different burgers, a pizza and fajitas. None of us were impressed with the food. My burger was that disgusting grey, pressed, processed paddy. The sausage was dry cured and overly processed as well. There was supposed to be a corn relish or salsa on my burger, nowhere to be seen. A place like this, that appears to take pride in their food by reading the menu, should serve up a better effort at least. Crappy service can be forgiven when a stellar meal shows up. Sadly not the case. Sorry Iron Goat. I keep wanting more, but seems it is not to be.

I was a bit disappointed! I don’t know how to review this place as a whole, though. Some parts were awesome, some not so much. So I’ll letter grade the facets. Hostess — D Not a great first impression. She made us feel pretty unwelcome and sat us(5, me, my fiancé and his fam) at a super crummy squished table in the lounge. We got the amazing lounge server to move us to a better table in the dining room, and she succeeded where the hostess epically failed. Servers — A Slow but awesome. Very knowledgable and friendly. Could have been slow based on the bar, kitchen or staffing. Food — B Good. Not bad. Not great. But good! Ambiance — A+ Love it. Big windows with an awesome view. Good spaces for private functions. Very Canadian and the patio looked incredible. Pricing — C A bit much for what they actually give you.

First off, our server Robin was amazing. Friendly, chatty, the perfect balance of checking on us often but not too much and cute as a button. We had a diverse group including a vegetarian and the menu had something to satisfy all of us easily. The duck leg appy was out of this world, one of the best restaurant dishes I’ve eaten in recent memory. Crispy, seasoned, juicy, flavourful… totally amazing. I’d think nothing of eating several of them, pairing them with the whiskey lemonade cocktail and calling it a night to be honest with you. However, their mixed game meatloaf was calling my name and I’m so glad I listened to it! I actually shared this entrée with one of my companions, I gave him half for half of his lamb shank. I love lamb and lamb shanks rarely disappoint – this one continued on that tradition. However, after one bite of that meatloaf everything was ruined for me. There was no going back to that lamb shank after sinking my teeth into that incredible meatloaf with caramelized onions and gravy. I described it as «food from heaven, like angels eat.» Absolutely hands down one of the best things I have ever eaten, ever in my life. Robin told us that the restaurant had one the Alberta Iron Chef competition with that dish and I totally get why. I would happily drive down from Edmonton to Canmore for an afternoon just to eat this dish again. Dessert was good, a cheesecake trifle. Points for originality, nothing unexpected about it’s taste. The décor is what most places in Banff/Canmore seem to be. Rustic and lots of wood. I like this look and don’t ever get sick of it so I’m always happy to go to a restaurant and see this. Bottom line – I will be coming back for this meatloaf again. Very very very soon.

Anyone else love saying«Iron Goat»? It sounds like a hilarious 80’s metal band that never made it, or a unfortunate reject superhero. Iron Goat! We paid a visit to Iron Goat after a long day hike to sit on a patio with some nachos and beer. If this is what you’re looking to do, Iron Goat is a fantastic recommendation. Your view of Canmore is crystal clear through the glass railings and you get a straight shot view of Three Sisters. It’s also on the sunny side of Canmore so you can enjoy patio sunshine well into the evening before the sun goes behind the mountains. The beer selection is more in depth than most places I’ve found in Canmore, featuring some unusual craft selections and a bunch of local Alberta and BC brews. I was excited to find Tool Shed Brewery’s «People Skills» on tap outside of Calgary. Well done Iron Goat! As well as being an absolute great guy to talk to, our server knew his beers! They’re broken into Lagers and Ales but I definitely wouldn’t have hesitated to have him make a recommendation. The Nachos were also an excellent choice! Loaded with toppings and cheese throughout. We almost ran out of chips to eat the toppings with. This is arguably one of life’s best problems! I love it when that happens! I got the«Janisse» pizza with Pepperoni, green olives, green peppers, bacon, mushrooms and mozzarella with marinara sauce. I know full well my pizza appreciation was greatly augmented by the day hike, but this combination was just what the doctor ordered! While maybe without huge amounts of wow-factor had I got just for pizza, at $ 14, the Janisse is a well put together piece of pub pizza. They have a selection of steaks, ribs and other fine entrees, and while I can’t say for sure as I didn’t order them, Iron Goat feels like the kind of resto where you might have better luck with the pub grub. I’d go here again for nachos, pizza and beer again in a heartbeat but if I was looking for an absolute foodie adventure I wouldn’t hesitate to give another place a try. Well done, Iron Goat! I’ll see you for post-snowboarding Caesars in a couple months!

This place has a great atmosphere with exposed wooden beams, nice stone work and an extremely fancy door/entrance, but unfortunately the food does not live up to the looks. My wife and I came by for dinner while staying in Canmore. Nice location high on the hill so there was a great view. We ordered two starters, chicken wings and grilled calamari bruschetta. For $ 13.50 I definitely expected a larger portion of wings but they were actually pretty tasty. The calamari bruschetta was just a bruschetta dish with tiny pieces of calamari in it. I wouldn’t get it next time. For main dishes, I ordered the maple walnut salmon. Sounds good, right? Well I just saw another reviewer here who said it was a under seasoned. Agreed. Overall, the salmon was bland and disappointing. My wife had the Alberta Baby Back Ribs with the coconut shrimp add on. The ribs were quite tender but the winner of this dish was the coconut shrimp. So, there you have it. Some good, some bad makes for an average experience. Too bad because this place has a great ambiance.

Stopped in for dinner one evening before attending an event in Canmore. Such a beautiful building/restaurant and lots of windows letting in the sun. Staff were very friendly and helpful with the menu. Nice selection of items… but I went with a simple thai sizzlin fajitas for my main. Husband had the rib n wing combo and to start we shared the bruschetta. Everything was decent, no wow factor, but it was a fun place to visit and experience.
