Great atmosphere, wonderful food from appetizer to dessert! Don’t pass this one up. Had the swine & wine app, jerk baby back ribs and finished off with the brownie and vanilla bean ice cream.

My husband and I came here for the first time in Friday in a getaway from Calgary, everything was five star. The service was friendly and knowledgable without being pretentious. The atmosphere is quaint and romantic with dim lighting, great for a romantic dinner. And the food in a word, Delectable, the bruschetta to start was the best either of us has had, for our mains we had the lamb and ribs both tender and cooked to perfection and the portions did not leave us hungry we were satisfied through and through. Can’t wait to come back.

From the very start to the end of the night this was very enjoyable. The intimate space, lighting, tables and chairs all worked together for our large group. Cocktails weren’t too fancy and all well made. We sopped up the remaining broth of the coconut curry mussels. The salad of poached Asian pear and blue cheese was perfect contrast of sweet and pungent with added crunch of candied nuts. I thought the hit of the night was the tomatoey rich Cioppino but every other plate was scraped clean. This is still the bomb. Go go go

Made resos via email, prompt and polite responses from the owner Cheryl. received friendly service upon arrival from Jen. We had the Mussels in green curry sauce, perfect flavouring for us. As well as delicious bruschetta for starters. Decent wine list and the mains were just mind blowing. There was zero conversation for a good 10 min while we were entranced w the lamb shank.

Definitely a place to treat yourself as it is not an inexpensive night out but absolutely worth every penny! Tried steak tartare for the first time here, had a wonderful meal in its entirety and would return in a heartbeat(after mortgaging our house, of course!)

Great service and food! I would prefer a non set menu during the week and it’s a lot to eat and I’m not a big dessert eager. I will return for the service and tasty food though!

My fiancé booked reservations to celebrate our recent engagement and it suited the occasion wonderfully! A small intimate setting with professional and attentive staff. We had the bruschetta to start which was far from traditional but incredible flavourful. I had the duck which was very tender and accompanied by a sweet relish that suited the dish. For dessert we shared the Toffee pudding with vanilla bean ice cream. Delicious and perfect to share because of the portion size and sweetness. It certainly lives up to its reviews.

The Trough at 7259th street is a small, high end restaurant serving dinner. 9th is a narrow street 1 block west of 8th Street, the main downtown Canmore street. It’s an indoor restaurant and not noisy. Very nice presentations, good portions, and good service. Entrees range $ 35 – 40 My wife and I had dinner at The Trough and enjoyed it. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Our service was prompt and friendly. My wife had wine and I had a beer. We split a salad. My wife ordered Thai seafood curry and I had the duck breast medium rare. Both entrees came as ordered accompanied by fresh vegetables and a delicious cherry sauce with the duck. Very nice presentations, and good portions. Service was very friendly and prompt. Our overall experience was very good. With wine, beer, salad, tax and tip our dinner expense was $ 115

Had wonderful maple carrot soup, duck, and smoked sable here last week. Returned for the bruschetta and we both had the sable tonight. Pablo remembered us and even what we ate last week. Fabulous food, drinks, and service. Highly recommended. Carol and larry

One of the best restaurants I have ever been to! If you’re in the area and feel like treating yourself, this place will NOT disappoint. Yes, the food is pricey but it is worth every penny! Considering the prices and small, specialized menu, The Trough does a fantastic job at keeping the atmosphere laid back and welcoming! FOOD: –Shrimp Ceviche: By far the best dish we ordered. WOW the flavors were incredible and the textures were dancing in my mouth :) –Mussels: Delicious! Wonderful sauce and very fresh. Served in a large dish with fries — sounds funny, but trust me it works! –Chef’s Catch of the Day: INCREDIBLE! Today’s catch was Sablefish and oh my dear lord, I wanted to cry from happiness. The fish was served in a bed of assorted vegetables and meaty mushrooms and wow… so incredible. Fish was practically melting in my mouth and I loved every second of it. –Tough Bruschetta: Worst dish we ordered. Not too bad, but not as great as all the other dishes we ordered. Then again my family is used to Italian Bruschetta, but this was an interesting take on a classic appetizer. Overall, an amazing restaurant! Lovely workers and ambience! Also random, but their bathrooms are the best bathrooms I have ever experienced in a restaurant haha… Definitely come here — you are in for a real treat :)

OMG-this place is delicious! We went for a special dinner and decided to try out their Canmore Uncorked menu and were not disappointed! We started off with a Caesar salad and the mussels. The mussels were the def winner in that course! The flavour was intense and the frites crispy! Next we had the halibut and a chicken curry. That one went to the halibut! It was perfectly cooked and accompanied by some lovely veg. Dessert was the crème brûlée and the sticky toffee pudding. My vote went to the sticky toffee pudding. It was decadent and moist. A perfect ending to a delightful meal!

This was our second time coming here. First time was a year and a half ago and the food was amazing. Tonight’s meal was utterly disappointing. Had it not been for a good bottle of wine and a great dessert we would have suffered through one of the most expensive yet bland meals we have ever encountered. My husband had the duck and I had the halibut. The presentation of each dish was beautiful and the service top notch. Unfortunately, as soon as we took our first bite we both were silent, neither wanting to complain about our meal. Each of our main course dishes were $ 36-$ 38. There was just simply no flavour, no flare, no taste to the dishes. It was a disappointing eating experience. Perhaps there has been a change in chefs? I am completely shocked at how poor our meals were. Wish we would have gone back to the Iron Goat; fabulous rib meal last night with a fantastic selection of beer and a good wine list. We have not tried The Sage Bistro or Crazy Weed but they are on our list. Get your money’s worth and satisfy your taste buds somewhere else…

It’s a small quaint restaurant. Nice atmosphere. The bruschetta is amazing!!! I could have had two orders of that and been happy. My main meal was the ribs, they were good but a little sweet when paired with sides. I recommend asking for the mashed potatoes as a side to go with it. Overall, I really enjoyed this restaurant!

The food and service here were tremendous. We had the best bruschetta I’ve ever tasted, and my lamb shank was on point. Dessert was delicious, and my wife’s fish was excellent. Great cocktails and wine. The ambiance was perfect for celebrating my birthday. Seriously, get the bruschetta.

After years of trying to get into this restaurant, we finally made it last night. Perhaps it was an over heightened expectation due to the Troughs excellent reputation but the experience was mediocre at best. The Menu is very limited, but there were several things that appeared appealing. We started with the bruschetta which was very unique and delicious My wife ordered the seafood cioppino which included shrimp, scallops, halibut in a tomato and saffron broth. The only word to describe this dish would be bland. Kind of a stewed tomato sauce with no hint of saffron and shrimp that tasted past their peak. I ordered the ribeye in a blueberry sauce with a Blue cheese potato tart. The blueberry sauce was nice, the tart dry and uninspired and the steak, which I ordered medium rare, presented medium well. Dessert was excellent, a crème brûlée with cranberries and a sticky toffee pudding. The service was very good. Our server was attentive and personable. I wish Unilocal would do ½ stars. Our experience was more of a 2 ½ but definitely not 3. While we won’t be going back, that’s mostly because of the limited starter menu. Based on everyone else’s great reviews on Unilocal I’d probably write our experience off as a off night for the Trough

The Trough was great! I had the duck breast with pea risotto. It was amazing! The duck was so juicy and tender. The risotto was creamy and seasoned perfectly. Our server Kyle was very friendly. My husband and I are young and we love to splurge on fancy restaurants. Most nice places are snobby but staff at the Trough were very friendly and professional. I can’t wait to go again!

My friend and I stopped in for a drink a few nights ago and ended up making reservations a few nights later because of the friendly staff and amazing looking entrees walking by as we had drinks at the bar. When we returned I had the ribs and bruschetta and was highly impressed. The bartender gave us some good local hikes to try as well. Highly recommend a stop in this quaint restaurant. The menu changes daily so there’s always something new.

We had a little mountain get away planned and after some perusing on Unilocal,we decided to make a reservation at The Trough. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Tucked away on a side street, this little restaurant is a complete gem. This whole establishment is well thought out and everything is done with care and attention, nothing here is an after thought. I love the design of the restaurant and they have the ambiance down to an art. From the décor and table settings right to the music. We decided to get an appetizer and split a main. We chose the bruschetta and the surf & turf as a main. Along with what we ordered we also got a few special treats, like other reviewers have mentioned, an amuse bouche to start and a pallet cleanser between the app and main. Amazing and really elevated the experience. The bruschetta was incredible, simple but so much flavor. Perfectly prepared. I believe it’s a favorite on the menu and I can see why. Warm baked dough balls topped with tomato and fairwinds farm chevre. They’ve put their own twist on this classic dish and have done it so well! The steak and shrimp entrée that we ordered was to die for. Plated on a creamy mound of risotto — I don’t think I’ve ever had properly cooked risotto before this day — and I’m still thinking about that risotto! why so good? How! We also had desert, crème brûlée. It was nothing short of perfect. The staff here are just lovely. Like other reviewers have noted, the service here is worth raving about. Dining at a place with perfect service really reminds a person how much of a difference it makes to the entire experience. Meals are timed perfectly and table side banter is spot on. Not overly tentative and never left waiting for someone to show up. Mostly they came to fill up or wine, remove a plate, or bring the next course before I even had a chance to think of it myself. Really tight service. I will be back here in a heart beat. This was possibly the best meal and dining experience I’ve had to date. Really unforgettable! They have some week day deals for early dinner seating’s that I would be willing to drive out from Calgary to try. What a nice dinner date that would be! and so worth it. My advice, make a reservation. You will be so glad you did.

Fantastic dinner for our Anniversary several weeks ago. Highly personal service from Richard and the team. The appetizers were delicious; we had the romaine hearts salad and bruschetta. We ordered the ceviche and rib eye for the main course. Meat was cooked perfectly and well rested. The timing was great and we never felt rushed. Richard made an excellent negroni. We will be back.
