If you have never eaten here before, you have obviously never been to Canmore. This pub is somewhat of a staple here and deserves that moniker. I have been here several times and am constantly amazed at the reasonable prices, great service and good eats. They have recently painted the inside a much brighter color and added some new light fixtures, which really does ‘spruce’ up the place(hahahaha… get it… tree joke… in the mountains… Well, I think it’s funny). The food was delicious as usual. We started off with some dry roasted IPA nuts which came out somewhat like a peanut brittle. They were salty, spicy and sweet. I had a prime rib sandwich as my main course and it was delicious. There was sour onions, cilantro and a Kimchi mayo on it which really added a different spin on a roast beef sandwich. This was accompanied with a huge salad which has a great balsamic vinaigrette in it as well as picked beets which I feel should be added to more salads. My husband had nachos and they were good(granted it’s hard to mess up nachos). The beer selection is decent but really, you should be enjoying the craft beers that are made in house(sorta in house, the brewery is just down the street and around the corner). They also have an excellent selection of in house brewed soda’s. They are available as a fountain drink in the restaurant and are available for purchase in a bottle at a little store run by the brewing company just outside of the restaurant. The root beer is a must try as it’s not as sweet as traditional root beer but still get all the flavor! All in all, I am sure that I will be back and look forward to the interesting items that seem to always appear on the menu.

The wings were great. I tried their root beer-also good. My friends enjoyed the beer they ordered and the service was prompt.

We tried Grizzly Paw for our first night’s dinner in the city of Canmore. Menu was on it’s last day, so a number of items(including the one I was going to order) were not available. I finally landed on the Elk Burger, which was served with fries or salad. The burger was topped with a combination of siracha and hoison… a great combination. This was my first Elk burger… and I really enjoyed it. I also had a glass of wine… but I am sure most would select from the many microbrew options. Overall, food was good, prices were in line with the area, and the service was pretty good.

Food was mediocre. Servers couldn’t wait for us to leave. Elk burger was alright. Nice nut ale! Not likely to return

Even before stepping inside this brewery I had heard of the Grizzly Paw name. That’s because just about every restaurant and bar in the valley serves its beer(root beer too which is very good I might add). From what I hear the brewery has been in business for quite a while. Inside you’ll find your typical brew pub with typical brew pub fare. I ordered the locally farmed elk burger and it was fine. Their Grumpy Bear Honey Wheat ale was also fine. No qualms whatsoever. The décor inside is your typical brew pub décor. It’s a little bit on the rowdy and sports orientated side. So in other words, you’re not going to impress your date if you take her here. Outside there’s a nice patio with a stone fireplace. On the night I visited I observed a mix of both outsiders and locals. Stamp of approval by the locals is always a good sign. Yea, I’m giving it three stars, but don’t let that fool you. I’d visit again if I’m ever back in Canmore.

A brief weekend in the Calgary are for a teacher conference led me here! Thanks to a colleague and local, he knew exactly where to go. After a morning of taking in the Canadian Rockies, we came out to Canmore to walk around and ended up on the patio. Wow. Surrounded by quaint shops and breathtaking views, we tried a few of their craft creations(which were each delicious!) and some poutine! I tried the elk burger with poutine fries while my friends each ordered the poutine with the smoked meat! Everything was absolutely delicious and the portions were out of control! I wish I could have visited Canada a bit longer, but the time I spent there was spectacular!

We arrived in Canmore on a busy Sunday and decided to go for the local brewpub. Since the whole front patio was full as well as the whole bottom floor, we opted for upstairs and was provided pretty good service overall. The hippie burger(butternut squash patty) was probably the best out of all our dishes ;) pretty nice flavor from the 4 pick sampler as well as their signature Evolution IPA.

No more flights… Started our 2nd night of touring Canmore with this famous spot. Fantastic that they have combined their inhouse brewing & soda making with this great restaurant. We only indulged in a basket of their parmesan popcorn so I can’t attest to much of their menu(we came for the beer!). It was good. Certainly better than paying the same price for movie theater popcorn. Alas…one of our biggest draws to this place was their infamous«flights» of beer. Sample platters of upwards of 10 small glasses. To our dismay, our server informed us these are no longer served due to the time they take to prepare and the way it slows down the bar. I can understand… but I am still not happy about it. This WAS something unique… and now it is gone. Hence…3 stars. As such… we won’t likely be back.

Great food, good beer selection. We started with the Parmesan popcorn and pizza made vegetarian — all was really good.

The food was decent. My gf had the Elk burger and it was really juicy and tasty. I had the MTL smoked meat, and it was very nice, with the root beer mustard. I also had the poutine, and that would have been pretty fine but the gravy wasn’t hot enough to melt the cheese. So it just had chunks of curd, which isn’t what you want. The beer was really quite excellent though. I had the dark ale, and it was perfect. I also tried the Ginger beer they make in house and it was a real treat. The outdoor seating arrangements looked pretty great… open fire pit with TV’s and heaters. Would love to check that out some time.

Since moving to Alberta, one of my biggest complaints has been a lack of good beer. Sorry but the breweries in Calgary are just not that great. Which is odd because you can drive a few hours south to Montana and find some fantastic breweries in even the smallest towns. But then we discovered Grizzly Paw. Wow finally, good microbrew beer! We first visited Grizzly Paw on a drive back from a camping trip in Banff. Now we stop by here for dinner after every ski day, and make sure to refill our growlers. The beer is fantastic. My personal favorites are the Evolution IPA and the Session Ale. The food is pub grub but decent. Try the spicy Elk Burger! It can get pretty busy here on weekends but we’ve never had to wait more than 15 minutes. We’re sold.

Rude staff, not really welcoming. Surprisingly the restaurant was full! Probably that’s why they did not care at all about new customers going in. Called the restaurant in advance and informed them we were in the way there, a large group of people; being told that booking cannot be done over the phone, understandable so far; given 39 minutes wait time we decided to go in an put our name in the wait list. After about 1 hour waiting inside, asked about the wait time; the girl at the check in table told us not to stay inside, advised the wait area is the Patio! How come we could stay out in the Patio –15 that day for more than 1 hour? One of our friends asked again about the wait time and that girl called her rude! Such a customer service? Asked for the manager and interestingly he backed up own staff! After 75 minutes waiting, no table, hungry, bring called rude, decided to leave and not pay these unprofessional guys. Never go back again, do not recommend.

I had been here once before and loved the atmosphere. Four years later I finally got to revisit and was seriously impressed! My fiancé and I were being responsible with cash after a 10 hour road trip and decided to pop in for a quick meal. We decided on splitting a beer sampler and the fish and chips since I was craving it. The beer and food are quite good, I’ve never been disappointed. Now, what SERIOUSLY impressed me was my waitress. We split the fish and chips and she brought out TWO full plates of fries/coleslaw/tartar sauce. Of course only one plate had fish but that’s to be expected. It stunned me that she didn’t just bring out one empty plate for us to split on our own. Two full plates! Tipped her very well!

Came here on a snowy Friday evening around 6pm. Since it was just the two of us, we were seated pretty quickly. Ordered the sampler beers(4x 5oz glasses) to share. Glad we did that as opposed to ordering a regular sized one, because they were all pretty awful. As another reviewer here has said, calling it craft beer is an insult to craft beer breweries everywhere. I think they need more time to practice… Anyway, onto the food. Had a plate of nachos, priced at $ 18(large portion but still a steep price), pretty average. I’ve had much better ones at bars for much less money. Also, the wait was insanely long(close to an hour for nachos and one burger!). Hardly ever saw our waiter either, so no extra points on the service front. Oh dear. Had it not been snowing and cold outside we would probably have paid for our beer and left before ordering entrees.

After an afternoon of hiking in Grassi Lakes, we were up for some grub. Stopped at this pub for drinks a bite to eat. There’s 2 levels to this place and the hostess seated the 2 of us upstairs which was nice as the main level was quite loud. We ordered the flat bread and the chilled ramen salad. In my opinion, both dishes leave a lot to be desired. The flat bread was loaded with too much cheese and there barely any chorizo sausage on it. The ramen salad was nothing special and kind of bland actually. They put sweet drop peppers in both dishes and although I noted it on the menu, they really went pepper crazy like they were trying to make up for the mediocrity. Meh!!!

Fun selection of beers with a fairly small entrée selection. The food was plentiful and came as we ordered. The restaurant is very noisy even in the second floor room. Our waitress was friendly and helped us out with some town touring. My wife and I spent around $ 55 for two entrées and a full flight of beers.

I use to love this place. I first tried it 2 years ago and the food was good and the place fun and cool. Now it feels like walking into a very mediocre family restaurant. The décor and style of the place makes for a great pub but the last few times I’ve gone the service gets worse, the food gets worse and the ambience is not pub at all. The menu has since been shortened since we were here last summer to the point where nothing on the menu appealed to me other than a Caesar salad and yam fries. There wasn’t any variety beyond burgers and sandwiches. Which were just ok and not great. The beer is always the same. It’s consistently good and same with the sodas. We make a point to come here every time we have been in Canmore but after this last visit we will probably pass by this place next time we’re in town unless the menu gets better.

Da findet jeder was. Also Herkommen lohnt sich !

Got here while visiting alone. Visually it is very attractive: comfy place with a nice inviting patio. I had the stout, which is very good, on point for taste and not so thick, so very enjoyable. Now the food is another story, had the lamb burger and I can say is eatable. Not very hot(as in temperature) and the lamb taste is barely an advantage. The service that’s what’s up. They merely pay attention to you. Probably the girl was having a bad day, but a little bit more welcoming attitude and more attention would help.

The chicken club sandwich is incredible here, it is served with a fresh caesar salad. To start off we had their signature honey hot wings and poutine both of which were fabulous. They have several different beers here made at their brewery on the property. I tried their Grumpy Bear Honey Wheat and their India Pale Ale both of which were solid micro-brews. The whole place is pretty packed, we went when their was a Canadian football game going on. Most of the people were pretty into the game and it really felt fun to be a part of this local hang out. This is not in the tourist trap areas and we really felt like we were visiting local Canada here.

After a day of mountain adventuring, The Grizzly Paw Brewing Company is a great place to grab a pint and watch the sun go down over the peaks before heading back to Calgary. If you’re out in Canmore on a more romantic or food related journey this wouldn’t be my choice. But if you’ve been out mountain biking with the boys(and/or girls) or even camping with the kids and need a space to gather your thoughts over a beer and talk about the day’s thrills or spills, you’ll like the approachable to everyone pub-like American chain Restaurant-esque style of Grizzly Paw. The prices are a few bucks more per item than you’d expect for something similar in Calgary, but this is just how it is in Canmore. I like to think of it as an ambiance tax. Why is the food a little pricey? Just take a look around you, man! Kudos to the staff here for admitting the flaws straight up. They made sure to tell us that there’s going to be a long wait to get in and an even longer wait for food. The line I get — I’m not too sure why the kitchen can’t keep up with the capacity of the restaurant, but it’s definitely nice to know before hand. They were also nice enough to deny us a Philly Cheese Steak. They had it in stock but according to our server it’s pretty gross hamburger helper style garbage and we wouldn’t like it. Ok then! Thank you for your honesty –no Philly Steak for this table! I’d much rather have a server tell me straight up what I’m getting into so that I have a great experience. I was impressed by her commitment to stand by the customer and not the menu. However, management take note… You’re staff isn’t very impressed with the Philly Cheese Steak on the brand new menu. Got the Duck Cuban and the fish ‘n’ chips style sandwich whose name I can’t recall. If you’re looking for a lot of food this might be your jam, but I wasn’t really blown away. Their Caesar is fantastic and I like their beers. I was excited to try out their new menu, but I think the next time I hit up Grizzly Paw it will be for post beer bevvies only and I might grab a quick bite somewhere else. I still think this place is 4-star worthy because everything else is great. Grizzly Paw doesn’t need great food. but I mean, it sure would be nice. It’s a popular place, so if you’re planning on checking it out on the weekend be prepared to wait in line for about half an hour. They do a great job keeping the lineup content by keeping your sugar buzz going with samples of their own Grizzly Paw Soda and getting you into the restaurant sooner than expected!
