A popular spot for the locals of Crestwood. Conveniently located in the strip mall that sports Cobb’s Bread, Allegro Italian restaurant, a TD Bank as we’ll as women’s and men’s shops and more. My husband and I eat vegetarian/vegan so we were happy to find a vegan sandwich on the menu. Tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms on bread fresh from cobbs turned out to be delish. 9.50 for the sandwhich if you want to add soup its 5.50 A regular cup of Joe starts at $ 2.70 and Tea 4.50 $ The prices tend to be a bit more Starbucks vs a Tim Horton’s There is a patio for the summer and plenty of seating inside as well. Live music is often played here and there is usually a cover charge. Art is also sold here. Today they are featuring an acrylic painting collection. I noted prices from 100 $-300 $ Staff was pleasant. Originally this was a wine bar so it seems the new owners have Carried on the tradition of wines and cocktails making it great summer patio spot or a great place to meet up with friends after the kids go to school ;)

It’s been a long time since I left a restaurant hungry, but the Blackbird Pie, which was described to me as «the house specialty» certainly left me wanting. Basically a mushroom pot pie, it was tasty, but tiny. It comes with nothing on the side, not even any greens. Certainly not worth $ 10.50. They should bump up the price by a couple bucks & add a soup or salad. I also had concerns about the cleanliness of this restaurant. In the 2+ hours I was there over the lunch hour, I didn’t see a single table wiped down after being cleared. I also saw some idiot pick up a glass at the water dispenser, pour himself a glass, swig it down and return the glass to the array of glassware… all within a couple feet of the cashier. Since she didn’t pick up the used glass, I did. I will not be back.

I’ve been to this café 3 times now and love it for paint nites, listening to bands and gabbing a quick supper. Attentive staff and great choice of drinks.

Great food and ambiance! Their soups, kale salad and vegan carrot cake are my absolute favourite! Love that they also have live music every Thursday, Friday, Saturday. And the occasional paint night. This is just a perfect little gem in a great community.

Best soup in the city, go out of your way for the amazing tomato bisque and croque monsieur! Sometimes they change things up and the same sandwich or soup will be a little different but I haven’t had a bad meal yet. The salmon sandwich and borscht is amazing as well!

I only recently finally checked this place out, on 142 Street, and was pretty impressed with what I saw. Right when I walked in I noticed they were setting up canvasses on tables; when I asked the server, she said it was for a thing they do on a regular basis called Paint Nite($ 45), in which people come to meet new people and paint art with the help of a professional(if they need), and food & drinks. They also host live acoustic musicians here, and have options for anyone who wants to have an alcoholic beverage for the show! I got myself a coffee(which was pretty good) and a chocolate nut brownie to go. The brownie was yummy, but it was around 6.30PM by the time I bought it, so the edges were all crusty. Not a problem, I cut the sides off, added a scoop of ice cream and went to town! I’ll definitely be back to Café Blackbird! I Heart Edmonton

Went for jazz brunch. It was bad! Food took forever and it was all just microwaved and not good. We had to go up to get knifes and napkins and the waitress never came once to check on us. I was excited to go there because of their vegetarian selection but I won’t be back

I’m being generous at 2 stars, as there was a paint night going on. But there was no service, after we told them that we were there for coffee. They never once asked us if we needed anything, didn’t offer water, deserts, we were as if we didn’t exist. I wanted a tea, but it was more money than a latte. The menu seemed interesting, appetizer style, no real dinner style. I will go there again to give them a second chance. Not expecting much, cuz it can only get better, not worse. I’m also excited to check out some of the shops around the restaurants.

A cute little café. Pleasant staff. Food selection isn’t huge, but the live music here was fantastic the evening I was there. Would return again for the great local music.

It’s an alright urban coffee shop in west Edmonton area. Modern decore and they have a limited menu for breakfast and lunch and evening appies for the live acoustic music. They focus more on the coffee but they serve wine and beer. Staff not too organized though and they spend time chatting in the back. But I saw some bread fall on the floor and they had the integrity to throw the loaves out. They ran out of feta when I was there on a Saturday night for my panini. You can sit at tables or the bar counter.

What a great café. The coffee is good and the food is very satisfying. The staff are friendly and courteous. I love the fact that it is also licensed. So when you are da outing their dishes, they can be accompanied by a quality wine. The have a decent selection as well. Enjoy.

I came here for PaintNite and I have to say I was impressed with this venue it was very bright and lively. I have been here before when it was Jeffrey’s café and now it just looks 100% better. My friend and I came in 45 mins early so we can have a bite and start a bottle of wine before we got our paint on. Our server was great, she was very patient and helped us select a good white wine. after cruising the menu I decided on a blackbird pie and my friend had the cream of mushroom soup and grilled ham & cheese sandwich. Our server came quick with our Wine and it was a very good choice. Other painters started piling in so we went and choose our spot. I noticed the crowd here was much more mature and classy, unlike going to Hudsons for paintnite. Our food came and it looked and smelled great! The only concern I had was the limited space for our meal. The pie tasted fresh and my friend loved her sandwich and soup. The class went on and we had such a great time, our server was very attentive with our wine, she had to store it behind the counter because we had no room for it on our table. The 2 hours came and went, our night had been a success! I will definitely be back for a live jazz night or just for a light meal.

An excellent choice for and enjoyable light beverage and meal. I was greeted by friendly staff who took time to share some venue and menu highlights. They now have an in house baker! I was so impressed by the experience, I took the time to write a thank you note, and hand delivered it to the venues management.

My morning started off with a Vanilla Latte($ 4.50) made with beans roasted by Edmonton’s own Iconoclast Coffee. The latte had great flavour and definitely woke me up. It was nice to know that high quality, locally roasted coffee is the choice at Café Blackbird, since it’s so important to support local producers! The main feature on the Hangover Brunch menu was a Loaded Waffle Panini($ 17) which featured two waffles with eggs, bacon and cheese, served with maple syrup, brunch potatoes and fruit. My boyfriend and I are known to visit District Coffee Co. on the weekends for their breakfast waffle sandwiches, so this waffle panini was calling our names. When the dish arrived at the table we couldn’t wait to dig in. The waffle panini tasted just like we would have imagined, savoury from the gooey cheese and bacon, and slightly sweet with the addition of maple syrup. The portion size was very generous(read: TWO whole giant waffles!) and I feel two people could have shared this one. For myself I wanted to try the Eggs Benedict($ 16) which is my typical go-to on brunch menus. The version at Blackbird is two poached eggs on ham, with hollandaise and served on top of Cobs Bread sourdough with a side of brunch potatoes. The eggs were poached beautifully with soft whites and an oozing yolk, and I liked the kick of heat to the hollandaise. The use of sourdough as the base for the dish was novel choice, but I found it was very difficult to cut through. With a bit of effort I was able to cut through and the payoff was some fresh, chewy sourdough, but I would prefer the traditional English muffin. The brunch potatoes served with our dishes were fluffy and flavourful, making them a filling side for both plates. Café Blackbird is a great spot in the Crestwood community and I’m sure the local residents are loving it! They offer comforting café fare, and support local producers at the same time. Brunch is available on weekends, and tapas are available in the evenings from 5pm til close. They even have some wines for you to indulge in! I’d love to have a locally owned café like this near my home — those of you in the west end are lucky.

Located in the Crestwood neighbourhood where Jeffrey’s Café was located for many years, Café Blackbird has kept the wine bar, redone the interior slightly, and totally revamped the menu. The small menu of sandwiches and salads are featured on a blackboard, along with the soup of the day, the savoury pie of the day, and a few other items. A variety of baked goods are in a display case. The menu was developed with help from Culina and the coffee from Iconoclast Coffee, as well as other local businesses. There is still live music, and the place has a neighbourhood charm to it. A sandwich will run you about $ 9 while a soup and sandwich combo is $ 14. I had the featured pie, which was creamy mushroom. It was small and rich, with lots of mushrooms in a flaky pastry. Prices are a little on the high end for portion size, but the quality is good. Some of the brunch items looked interesting too. I liked the coffee the best — it tasted very fresh.
