Second Cup

Loved this Canadian coffee chain during my recent trip up north. I loved it even more because it was in the lobby of the Varscona where I had coincidentally been staying so I never had to leave the lobby for good brew.
It can get pretty crowded in the morning from locals and hotel patrons, but everything moves pretty fast. The staff is über courteous and quick and you can tell they really love coffee.
On the first day, I went with their brewed house coffee and it was great. Didn’t require any additives on my part and gave me a nice jolt to get through my day. All other visits were Americanos and I was not disappointed. Piping hot water filled with dark espresso shots. A great way to start the day and a fantastic excuse to order a large for keeping my hands warm.
The shop offers free wifi if you’re looking to get a little work done and they have a great selection of pastries if want a sweet treat to accompany your caffeinated beverage.
I can’t wait to come back.

Best coffee chain on Whyte.
Second Cup is decent coffee, but this location is very nice. The interior is very well kept with lots of seating available. The many windows allow you to people watch while you enjoy your coffee. The nice employees also add to the experience.
Great place to stop for a coffee or grab a cold iced coffee while you’re on the go.

Decent Coffee on Whyte
When I stay in Edmonton I love to stay at the Varscona, so this Second Cup is a bit like my second home. I wouldn’t say the ambience is anything amazing, but like most places on Whyte an interesting crowd and decent coffee. All with friendly and fun staff.

Location, Ambience! That’s the only reason to review a Second Cup!
Not that I don’t like Second Cup Coffee, but I suspect everyone has already made up their mind on its quality of coffee. I like that that this is in a bit of a quieter (only slightly) part of Whyte and has a cozy ambience inside. They’ve got good furniture here and is a little dimmer in lighting, just slightly dimmer, making it an awesome place to go when it’s too cold outside. Very inviting atmosphere! It’s quite small inside, but not very. Just not like expansive.
I also like that they’re part of the Varscona Hotel, so there washroom is really in the lobby of the hotel — that’s great! It’s a high quality washroom. Please remember that, the next time emergency strikes on Whyte Ave!
They’ve also got a lot better merchandise, in my opinion. That doesn’t matter greatly, but I’ve noticed some other Second Cups lacking in that department.

I really like this location of Second Cup. I prefer this location on Whyte over the stand alone location on Calgary Trail and Whyte.
The reason I like this location is because I find it more chill. It’s not as busy than the other Whyte Ave location and it’s got a different feel to it.
I find that this location is less of a trendy hangout than other Second Cups. Because it’s part of the Varscona Hotel, there are more out-​of-​towners and the atmosphere is a bit more business like. It’s not uptight business though, it’s a relaxed business environment.
