I read about this restaurant from a blog by lindork and was very interested in trying this place. We were meeting some friends and decided to try Workshop eatery. We enjoyed our food very much. It’s Deep South. Didn’t know 91st extended that far south. I would never expect a restaurant there because it’s sort of at the end of the industrial area. There are plenty of parking. The building the restaurant is in looks massive and very modern. You have to enter the building and the restaurant is on ur right or left if you are coming from the opposite door. The restaurant was bright and quite big. We started off with the kimchi BBq pork lettuce wrap it had vegetables, vermicelli, peanuts and watercress yoghurt and you wrap it with butter lettuce. I really like the butter lettuce instead of the green leaf lettuce where most places use. It was a nice size too. The kimchi bbq pork was crunchy with a bit of a kick. Delicious. The next item was belly and butternut. It is a maple braised pork belly on top of butternut squash, with roasted corn kennels, candied pecans and ancho oil. I personally don’t like to eat pork belly so I skipped out on that. But I really enjoyed the squash with the corn. I couldn’t stop picking at it but minus the belly. We also go the duck carpaccio. This dish is very different. I didn’t like the duck carpaccio. Tasted like duck jerky and I’m not a big fan on the blood orange vinaigrette. It tasted like balsamic vinegar with a citrus after taste. I didn’t like that dish at all. For the main course I ordered the potato & ricotta stuffed perogies. Oh my, this is very good! I would definitely come back for that. First, perogies are my favorite and the stuffing is delicious. They had chive sour cream for you but I didn’t even really have to use it because the perogies were tasty on its own. It is served with braised leek and sautéed mushrooms. Our friends ordered their feature — can’t remember the name but it was something with risotto. I had a bite. It was very good and one of the servers did say we should always try their features. My hubby and our other friend ordered the pomegranate braised lamb. Normally i don’t eat lamb. But this lamb was very juicy and slides off the bone. It was highly recommended by the server and he also mentioned we should try the steak dish. To finish off the meal we ordered the honey and yoghurt Panna cotta with sour cherries and candied pecans. Honestly, I just had a few spoonful of it. I was getting too full. But it was not bad. Although I’ve had better Panna cotta(must try yokosuna’s) and we also ordered the warp apple crisp. The apple crisp is good but we were just too full and couldn’t finish it. The cream cheese ice cream is different it didn’t have much taste to it. I had cream cheese ice cream before and this one is not that cream cheese. Definitely would come back here again. I would bring my girlfriend because it’s a good place to eat and chat for a long time :)

Meh. My experience is probably more indicative of poor service than poor food. I ordered the Traditional Eggs Benedict, and was asked by our server if I would like it with bacon hollandaise. I asked if there would be anything else different about my order besides the type of hollandaise, and she said no. Instead, I received the Huevos Benedicto, which also had jalapeño cheddar cornbread, black beans, pico de gallo — not exactly«only the hollandaise is different». When I mentioned that I was told only the sauce was different, and said that I can’t eat cheese, the server chastised me for not telling her I couldn’t eat cheese, even though that shouldn’t have been a concern with a traditional Benny. The staff were great about switching the cornbread out for a regular English muffin, but this was certainly not what I was expecting for brunch. I’ll be back in a few months when staff have a little more experience.

Fantastic meal. Came here for brunch on valentine’s day and loved every part of it. The Americano was hot and delicious, and the beer list is huge. My girlfriend got the ginger lemonade and thought it was great. We got the beet plate for an appetizer and the portion was huge, easily enough for 2. Tasted amazing too. My girlfriend got the salmon sandwich which had generous portions of fresh fish and a great homemade relish with a potato leek bacon soup which made a great side. I got the burger, with a fried egg added on top and it was easily one of the best burgers I’ve had in the city. The bacon was perfect and the tomato jam complimented it really well. The atmosphere in this place is amazing, especially with the sun coming in through the giant windows in the morning. Our server was great, and the management came over multiple times to ensure everything was great. We only came here because we had a gift card, and we expected it to be trendy food dumbed down for soccer moms and their families, but they’ve done a great job of serving delicious farm fresh whole foods in a completely unprentious way. Fantastic place, we will definitely be back.

Love the food there. Very fresh and tasty. Had eggs benedict. When you eat eggs benedict, the hollandaise sauce makes is the key. But here, eggs taste amazing. Dont get me wrong, the sauce was good but I truly enjoyed the rich full flavor of the fresh eggs. Although the potatoes were slightly under cooked, over all very satisfying meal. Nothing is overly flavored or seasoned. Just right for my taste. Also had fresh juice there. Grapefruit juice was very refreshing and couldn’t have it enough. Staff are very prompt and friendly. Since its quite new place, I do hope for it to keep its quality of food and service to remain the same or better. Very satisfied visit. My new favorite place to be.

We were curious about this place. We are always excited for new food opportunities. So we booked a week before. 5:20 we show up, dressed up, our valentines night. There’s 3 people in the place not so dressed up I might add. They show us to a table by the door. This place is horrific for atmosphere. It’s like a lunch room for a psych ward. So I asked if we could be moved from the door. They said its all booked and noo. So we said I’d rather sit at the pact kegs bar and be guaranteed great service. So we left!!! Had then a Beautiful night at the Keg. While we waited we spread the word of disillusioned experience at work shop.

Went for brunch this am, coffee came out twice with grounds in it(you pay per cup, as it’s Americano style, just as a note) and they messed up my friends and i’s order(the owner was fantastic about fixing it, but overall it was frustrating). All the food was warm at best and nothing was spectacular(I heard their Eggs Benny was great, I put it at okay to fairly good, hubby and I tried both types, the Hauvos was better). For the price(50 $ for 2 adults all in) and how long it took(60 minutes+ for 5 plates that were not right, one had to be sent back completely) I’m not sure I’d eat there again for brunch. On a brighter note, the homemade ketchup and jam were awesome, as was the ambiance, and the owner did work hard to correct the messed up order.

Woohoo! Finally a great restaurant a few mins from where I live. Seeing that this place is new and there’s been lots of great reviews already my sister and I decided to check it out. And I am so glad we did. We came in for Lunch on a week day and it was busy. The hostess asked if we had made reservations, we had not but they had one table left(wow thank goodness). First impression of the building was it reminded me of a greenhouse/mod workshop(hence the name). It was clean and bright with all the Windows. I immediately fell in love with the place. Our Server was extremely knowledgeable with the wine menu and made the decision on what wine we should drink. I can’t remember the exact wine I had but needless to say it was delicious and went well with our lunch. Which we ordered for starters the beet salad. The salad looked beautiful like art on a plate, which also tasted amazing. For mains I had the Salmon which was cooked to perfection and my sister had the perogies(which she raved about). All the elements on our dishes were fresh, light, and vibrant. The desserts were nice and compact in a mason jar type. Both were tasty and I would definitely have again. This place is going to be on number one on my lists, I can’t wait to try the brunch!

Enjoyed a delicious brunch here with colleagues. Perfect portion size, perfect buttery hollandaise on the eggs bene, and great drink selection(especially the Bee’s Knees)! Was a shame their fancy espresso machine was down, but they made every effort to get coffee to all the tired guests!

The food and ambiance here are fantastic. It’s located in the Mosaic Centre, which is definitely out of the way for me… but I made the trek to the south side to give it a shot. I tried a variety of menu items and to be honest, I wasn’t particularly wow-ed by any of it. For drinks, I tried the jalapeño margarita and the minty sake. I LOVE margaritas so I was really looking forward to trying it, and it was good, but I don’t think I would order it again. I don’t care much for sake but I was intrigued by it’s use in a cocktail so I gave it a shot, and it was *really* good. I liked that one a lot. It has a nice citrus flavour and isn’t too minty. To start, we had the arancini which is one of their feature items and changes regularly, so there will be different kinds when you go on different days. It was really good, but we weren’t impressed by the twelve dollar price tag that only got you 3 on the plate. Not worth $ 4 each. Then, we tried the chips and dip. The dip was fantastic! But the problem is that the chips(though tasty) were SO thin that you couldn’t actually dip them. We had to scoop the dip out with our forks(you’d think they’d provide a spoon if it’s going to be like that), and spread it on the chips, which felt a bit weird. We also had the pork belly, which I, personally, found revolting. It was crispy on the outside, but in the center, the texture was so mushy. I know that pork belly is a fatty cut… but I actually felt like I was eating straight up lard. I’ve had better pork belly. We ordered the perogies to share and again, we were disappointed. I’d wanted to try the duck duck couscous but my friend and I settled on the perogies because we thought for sure that they would blow our minds, but they didn’t. They tasted about the same as pan fried Cheemos(which would have fed us for a fraction of the cost). I expected more, seeing as they were hand-made! I will have to come back to try the couscous since that was what was really on my radar! For dessert we had the bread pudding and it was super tasty. I’d like to try more of the dessert menu, and I appreciate that they put just as much attention into the desserts here as they do to the mains! Dessert is an underrated course in general, so I was impressed by their selection. The service was excellent. We made resos for 6 but didn’t get there until 20 min later due to a snowstorm and awful traffic– but they were still happy to accommodate us and saved our table! I really appreciated that. Our server was really energetic and bubbly. There were a few times where I didn’t have a drink and would have appreciated at least a water to sip on but otherwise she was very attentive and kind. Don’t get me wrong, all of the food was incredibly tasty! But with such rave reviews, I was expecting my mind to be blown. The Workshop just wasn’t there for me yet, but it has the potential to learn and grow! It’s at a good starting point! I’ll be back for the duck duck couscous!

What an excellent evening. Greeted and seated promptly, engaged in conversation, given suggestions and great recommendations. Very clean open and bright space. All staff is knowledgable and friendly. I’ve brunched at this restaurant a couple of times, it has been very good. Tonight I had the arancini as well as the duck for an appetizer. Both were prepared to a gold standard– if anyone makes a poor comment on either dish… then they have no true education on food or food preparation. I had the steak which was cooked to the level I asked, and the flavour was great, along with what I believe to be deep fried Brussels sprouts… soooo goooood! And then paired with a cheddar style fried potato tot in Sriracha sour cream, it was awesome. My boss had the lamb, I had a bite and the meat was tender and well seasoned. The grains were in a kind of a gravy sauce which was very tasty. Dessert-we shared the panna cotta and the bread pudding. Both excellent and exploding with flavour. I couldn’t ask or even think of asking for anything more from the staff or quality of food and preparation tonight. If your looking for a new wiff of excellent cooking this is the place to go! Enjoy.

After ten years as Executive Chef for the Century Hospitality Group, Chef Paul Shufelt decided it was time to start up a restaurant of his own. The Workshop Eatery officially opened a couple weeks ago in The Mosaic Centre, Canada’s largest net-zero commercial building. Choosing to open up in a sustainable building definitely poses its challenges, but supporting local producers, sustainability, and using seasonal produce are concepts important to Chef Paul. The Workshop Eatery is located in the far south neighborhood of Summerside, which can be a fair drive for many in Edmonton. But once you enter the building you’re greeted by an open space and living wall, which shows how unique and beautiful the Mosaic Centre really is. As for the restaurant, you’re greeted into a space that is warm, rustic and inviting. I love the open concept and the visibility of the kitchen — there’s nothing to hide! Throughout the different seasons, the menu will consist of roughly 20 staple dishes and a different feature each day. What makes the menu seasonal will be the different accompaniments and sides to a main dish. If you’re ever wondering what’s on the menu on a particular day, just check the website! It’s amazing that they will be updating their online menu daily! We started off our meal with a couple of appetizers, first up was the Arancini($ 12). The arancini at Workshop changes daily, and the«New York Deli» arancini with deli meats, a balsamic tomato smear, and Nefiss Lazizz Olive Oil was the feature for the day. These fried risotto balls had a golden, crisp exterior, and broke open to reveal a creamy mix of risotto, green peas, and small morsels of meat. I personally prefer my arancini to be rich and cheesy, so these arancini didn’t quite deliver for me. Next up came the Chicken Liver Parfait($ 11) served in a small mason jar with crostinis made from Bön Ton Bakery’s Cranberry Raisin Nut Bread. The liver was whipped with a mousse-like texture and topped with a port and Saskatoon berry jam. It was a perfect balance between sweet and savoury, and I loved the different textures that the crostini added to the mixture. Our last starter for the meal was the Duck Carpaccio($ 17) featuring Moosewood Acres cured duck breast, pickled shiitakes, carrots, daikon, a soy reduction and blood orange vinaigrette. I really enjoyed the fragrant orange paired with the duck, and the tang of the vinaigrette, but found that the dish was much too salty. Typically a carpaccio dish features meat that is extremely thinly sliced or pounded thin, but the duck in this carpaccio was thickly sliced. The thick slice combined with the soy reduction was quite salty, so with some adjustments to the cut and seasoning, I would really enjoy this dish! Just like the arancini, The Workshop Eatery has a feature dish each evening. On the night of our visit Tangle Ridge Lamb Chops were being served with a butternut squash, corn and bacon hash. The lamb chops were moist and tender, and looked beautiful against the brightly coloured hash. The hash itself was naturally sweet but lacking in smokiness which we expected from the bacon. As it turns out, we didn’t find much bacon in the hash either, so that could have accounted for the discrepancy. For myself I ordered the Duck Duck Couscous(how fun is that to say?!)($ 32) which featured beautifully seared Moosewood Acres duck breast on a bed of warm couscous with raisins, almonds, pickled cherries and vanilla parsnip purée. The duck was cooked to a perfect medium, and the lightly sweet couscous was a great companion to the duck. The parsnip purée was also a delightful addition to the dish, and complemented both components on the plate. Although I love lamb, the duck was definitely the winner for me and I would happily order it again. When it came down to the desserts, I was torn between two options. The panna cotta at The Workshop Eatery is made with the rooftop honey and would have been my first choice, but I couldn’t resist the Croissant Bread Pudding($ 9). The flaky croissant pieces are paired with white chocolate and cranberry, giving this dessert some tart notes to balance the sweet. Topped with a generous scoop of Pinocchio’s cinnamon ice cream, this was a comforting dessert that I would eat again. Taken as a whole, we had a great dinner at The Workshop Eatery: our dishes were good and the service was attentive. If there’s one thing I love about The Workshop Eatery, it’s their commitment to sustainability and supporting local producers. Their decision to move into the Mosaic Centre means that the drive to their restaurant is long and far for many patrons, but the principles of the building align with the values of the restaurant. It’s great to see so many local farmers mentioned throughout the menu, and I think it will be interesting to see how things shift once the growing season in Edmonton comes around.

First time here. Lunch with my wife. First impression… Very simple modern set up, staff were very inviting. Not overly busy but I’m certain many don’t know this gem exists yet. You will soon I’m sure though. Justin greeted us and took drink orders, when they say fresh squeezed grapefruit juice they mean it. Very refreshing but careful the tart will kick in very soon. Our lunch consisted of my wife ordering the burger which she had the chips as the side. The burger was delicious from the one bite I tried. I decided to try the huevos benedicto and wow! Okay now this may sound like it doesn’t belong but replacing an english muffin with corn bread… That was one of the most pleasant taste combinations I’ve ever stumbled on. The black beans were a delicious addition as well the the amazing hollandaise sauce. The hash was nothing short of heavenly. Overall this might be one of the most creative and fresh takes on eggs benedict. Would I order it again… ABSOLUTELY! My wife said she would highly recommend the burger!

Let’s bring this down a notch, shall we? While I’m sure this restaurant will do well given it’s pretty hard to find a restaurant focusing on local, seasonal food in the deep southeast corridor of Edmonton, this place unfortunately doesn’t cut it for me. To start, we ordered the Arancini special($ 12), which was mushroom with a yogurt dill sauce. The arancini was very dry, and there was maybe a teaspoon of sauce for three Arancini. The server let me know she would’ve brought me more, but I never thought to ask. The pork belly had rave reviews from my friend, and I tried a bit and can confirm it was pretty damn good. For my entrée I went with the $ 24 perogies(for 7). Sadly, the perogies were dry, lacking flavour, and again I was left desiring more sauce. And I’m not even someone who likes a lot of sauce. For dessert, I had the croissant bread pudding with pinocchio cinnamon ice-cream($ 9). It was decent. My friend ordered the chocolate espresso mousse, and there was something wrong with it. There were white chunks in it, not sure what, server didn’t seem to know either. I just assume it wasn’t quite mixed properly. The server took care of this though and took it off the bill, although she didn’t quite get the message that my friend wanted a different dessert instead. The server was pretty great for most of the meal, but for me, the food just didn’t do it. And at this price point, I likely won’t be back to give it a second try as I have a favourite restaurant already that’s in this price point.

The Workshop Eatery’s rolling doors opened a couple of weeks ago, the deep south Edmonton establishment promising handcrafted seasonal fare without being unapproachable or pretentious. I had a chance to try out brunch earlier on, a delightful way to spend a Saturday and a visit to the new co-working space, The Mosaic Centre. Brunch is a rarity for me, the accomplishment of household chores, diddly-daddling, coffee sipping and Joe’s sleepy nature all contributing factors as to why we’re never ready to leave the house before 11am. It’s around that time that we’re hungry, ready to venture into the downtown area or Chinatown to grab a quick lunch. Something about that Saturday morning though prompted me to go to The Workshop Eatery to try their brunch menu though. It’s called Ikea. Despite Joe’s protests about Swedish meatballs and soft serve ice creams, I was fixated on a real brunch meal for once. The Mosaic Centre is Canada’s biggest net-zero building, the commercial co-working space delivering on its promise: beautiful, sustainable, and affordable. For now, it houses The Workshop Eatery, a day care, and numerous spaces for the community to use to innovate and collaborate. The morning we were there, a yoga instructor class was being held in the open stairwell spaces and numerous rooms were being utilized for what looked like a brainstorming meeting. It’s a pretty cool space and I’m envious of Summerside for having such a beautiful building! Workshop Eatery continues the open concept in their own space, the kitchen and bar barrier-free to diners. I love bright, airy, relaxed spaces! Joe and I were seated closer to the front of the restaurant, a bit further off from the action, although cozy and private for our meal. The mural of farm vegetables around the daily chalkboard was cute and rustic. Also noteworthy: the music. I don’t think I’ve really paid attention to what kind of music a restaurant was playing, but it’s been a long time since I’ve heard good ol’ Red Hot Chili Peppers during a meal. I’m a fan. Headed by owner and Chef Paul Shufelt, previously Executive Chef of Century Hospitality Group, the brunch menu offers the favourites: an eggs benny, straight up eggs, bacon, hash and toast, three omelette selections and even a Heuvos Benedict. The ‘Banana in Pyjamas’ stood out on the menu because the thought of banana bread French toast smeared with Nutella, slivered almonds, and Saskatoon berry compote is enough to make somebody really think about which way to go. Savoury or sweet? Oh my god the decisions. Joe was lost without his usual noodle soups for lunch, but he went with the ‘Vegetable Melt’, a mix of spicy tomato jam, roasted Mona mushrooms, red wine braised onions and a creamy herb goat cheese and fresh arugula between local Bön Ton Bakery country sourdough. Loved the sweetness of the tomato jam and I’m always a fan of Mona mushrooms! The dish also came with a choice of the day’s soup, salad, or housemade kettle chips. I was secretly hoping Joe would choose the kettle chips but the ‘Cream of Winter Mushroom Soup’ with truffle oil and chive crème fraîche was a fantastic choice! Served piping hot too. Nothing is more irritating than a room temperature soup. While my head, heart, and stomach debated between ordering a savoury or sweet dish(BANANASINPYJAMAS!), I ended up ordering the ‘Chorizo & Chedda’ Omelette’. Again, the appearance of local farms or producers was a bonus: the eggs from Four Whistle Farms, the chorizo by Irving Farms Fresh(according to our server), all cooked together with aged white cheddar to make a delicious omelette. The potato hash was in its purest form, a slight crisp to the potatoes and the use of fresh bell peppers, onions, and herbs. It was refreshing to see the ingredients being highlighted as they were. I can happily say that Workshop Eatery delivered on its promise for that weekend: a handcrafted meal highlighting fresh ingredients! Imagine what they can do when summer rolls around and their gardens flourish! Or how about their bee hives on the roof of The Mosaic Centre? I’m anxious to see the space come spring time to see more of the space. It was also nice to see Workshop Eatery as a family-friendly establishment, the table next to us a young family of three. I was a little jealous of the young boy who ordered the ‘Bananas in Pyjamas’. He then exclaimed to our server that it was the best thing he ever ate and that they’d come back every day. I knew I should have ordered sweet. Next time. Congratulations to Chef Paul Shufelt and his team on their grand opening! Although the space is a bit out of reach for me, those in the area are lucky to have The Workshop Eatery! I hope to be back for dinner soon, the menu looks fantastic and to come back for brunch. Fact: their menus actually get updated on their website. Who does that? Love it. And for those wondering about Ikea? We didn’t even go. I just needed an excuse to head south for brunch, bahaha!

A wonderful new addition to the local Edmonton food scene! Set in the beautiful Mosaic Centre building, the décor is gorgeous to match. The food was incredible! The real kicker to this pleasant evening were the chef and staff, who were so welcoming and lovely. I have a dairy allergy and they went out of their way to create a dessert just for me on the spot, before I had even finished my dinner! I assumed I would be passing on dessert like I have to at every other restaurant, so this was a very appreciated and delicious surprise.
