* Appropriate name(for now) * What an appropriate name, «New Place» — but I just wonder if they will eventually start calling themselves«Place» after a waiting period!!! How does that work? Hm…“The Place” is already taken though: So perhaps this will be called New Place forever!!! Naming aside, this place is actually not new. It is the old Northern Dynasty( ) with a new name. The menu is similar — but a bit updated from the last time I was there. I tried: — Green onion pancake( ). This was a fairly non-greasy version and decently flaky. It was a bit too doughy in parts, but overall a decent rendition: — Xiao long bao( ). These were a rather thick skinned version and had a bit of a clump at the top. The broth and meat were nicely flavoured and I would generally rate them as, «OK.» Close-up: Similar impression to how I felt about the Old Place(Northern Dynasty). If this New Place was outside of the Vancouver area I likely would give it 4 stars. But here it is basically a 3 star.

The New Place restaurant on Alexandra Road, replacing the former Northern Dynasty. I found the name of restaurant a bit weird but still wanted to try it. The table cloth was nice and the chair cover still very clean. They served similar of northern dim sim as the others. We ordered few typical dim dims to try and all of them were good. Steamed pork dumplings — Fresh and juicy. Not surprise me but still tasty. Green onion pan cake — Hot and smell so good. Chinese donuts — OK. Salty soy milk — a lot of small fish and seaweed, a bit different than the other restaurant. Shanghai wontons — it’s so delicious, the wonton wrap so soft and smooth I realized the waiter and waitress were talking to the customer or colleagues all the time, not pay attention to other customers at all.
