Such a bad decision to come here. We came here out of desperation because it was late and we really wanted sushi. Here are my Coles notes… The good: generous portions. The bad: The chicken udon broth was waaay too salty. The dishes came with a complimentary salad and miso, but again the miso was too salty and for some reason the salad had water pooling at the bottom. Out of sheer hunger, I resorted to pouring my tea(which was just lukewarm water) into my udon bowl, but alas it didn’t help with the saltiness factor. The scallop roll we ordered ended up as a kappa roll with scallop on top with spicy sauce(we didn’t actually order it spicy). But the scallop itself tasted good. The atmosphere itself is abysmal. The blue light reminds me of a rave or when they have it in bathrooms to stop drug addicts from injecting. Yikes. It’s doable when you’re desperate but don’t ever bring out of town guests here. Or a first date, as it will be your only one.

Change of ownership for the 24537th time. Not a good sign if you ask me. Rent must be killing them. Nice corner location though with a spacious patio.

I was originally going to give three stars, but I think two is a better rating. Pros: 1. Super cheap 2. Really fast 3. Patio seating Cons: 1. Wasn’t the tastiest food I’ve had — the tempura and chicken both tasted like they were fried in old oil. The sauces were different tasting. 2. The rolls/fish didn’t seem like the freshest. I could be off base here, but I didn’t feel like it was as fresh as it could be.

Food isn’t bad, but the service is some of the worst I’ve ever had. I actually eat here about 1 – 2 times a month and the service(or lack thereof) has become a running joke. To communicate your order it is best to point it out on the menu, otherwise receiving the wrong item is likely. And that’s if you even receive anything at all! Items sometimes never even show up(except on the bill). During my last visit, after seating ourselves, it was approximately 15 mins before a server asked us for our order(no drinks had been asked about yet). Would have walked out, but the over/under was 17 minutes.

A solid three star performance. Food was good. Nothing fantastic. Considering the price you are paying though, you can’t expect it to be mind blowing. I got quite a large bento plate of sashimi, rolls, rice and a salad for $ 6.50. Yes, Six dollars and 50 cents. Food wasn’t particularly amazing, but it was good enough. I ordered the house roll too, which was about $ 5.95, and while it was tasty, the plate it came on wasn’t clean. I almost sent it back… but I was too hungry. The plate had been washed, however it had been handled quite a bit by someone with something on their hands… it was caked on the plate. It could have just been from the sushi chefs… yeah…that’s what I am telling myself. Service was fine, and the wait staff were friendly. Would I go back??? probably not. Only because there are plenty of other better sushi places nearby.

Incredibly great food for such an economical price. We don’t understand why the rating is not higher. We love the soup(so yummy!), salad and pickles that they bring free at the beginning. The double spicy roll is delish and great value. Ask for the hidden Korean menu and get the small sashimi feast. It is huge and has such a variety of good, not just sashimi.

i came here shortly after they took over the vietnamese place that occupied the space for a long time. My MMM’s about this place are 1– cheap food 2– cheap quality 3– tiny flies; lots of them. this korean owned chain of japanese restaurants aren’t doing well. On this block there is a real nice authentic korean place, and a half– decent japanese izakaya. Go a little further north, you will find a few other japanese restaurants, serving grilled meats and ramen.

When my friends told me that Vancouver had cheap sushi, I didn’t believe it at first. Well I was proven wrong! Momo sushi was my first stop for sushi in Vancouver. When I saw the prices, I was surprised! A box meal that included– sashimi(tuna, salmon), Rice, chicken teriyaki, sushi roll, miso soup, Vegetable and shimp tempura and several other items that I had forgotten came out to under $ 10! In the US it would easily be $ 17+. The sushi rolls itself was only $ 6 and it came out with 14 pieces of large sushi! A plate of sushi by yourself would be suffice. We also ordered their chicken udon noodle soup bowl, and there was a lot of chicken in the bowl! it was very flavorful and it was under $ 7. Overall, everything that came out tasted fresh and very good.

I don’t write reviews often but this place needs one. I was here on a busy Friday night. I wanted to try something new and decided to give Momo a try, here is my honest opinion. The music is loud night club pop that ensures you can’t really talk to your dinner partner which is a bad start. The ambiance is ekletic to say the least. There is a big TV playing baseball, strange Ikea lighting, loud pop, and few other dollar store-esk trinkets. Am I in a 14 year old’s bedroom? Not a classy or authentic place is my first impression. Saying this the place was packed. But I figure it was either everyone’s first time there or the patrons had never had proper Japanese food. Too much filler crab, tiny portions of good quality fish. Rice over cooked and everything kind of thrown on plate with very poor presentation. I also has gyoza, it was under cooked and the filling tasted cheap. *sigh*. Denman street has tons of wonderful sushi places, this is not one of them. I was also put off with quotes from the bible in the menu… not the place to push your beliefs on customers. The service was good though so I give them 1 star for that. They will need new chefs, good quality food, and to figure out what type of restaurant they are if they want to make it though a west end winter.

We arrived in town mid afternoon on a Thursday. This was close to where we were staying. There were only a couple of tables occupied. They offered complimentary miso soup and tempura veggies(only edible while hot). We had 4 – 5 rolls, all ok, nothing outstanding, house saki was meh. Service was fine.

When your out on a Friday night, and you can’t find somewhere to go cause they have no seats… well… there are seats here. There is probably a reason why there are seats here, well we were hungry and also just needed a place to sit around, beer was advertised for $ 4 may as well enter. I don’t know what was here before, but something tells me a long time ago it was probably Vina’s(I think). The music that was playing was pop music, and all I could really remember was Justin Bieber and that«Baby» song. The place was quite full, and you would suspect that the food was alright, there was even people sitting out on the patio. We walked in and were put in the corner, ordered a few beers to start. Saw many people ordering big platters, or supposedly big. We sat near the big round table at the front, my friend spoke Japanese and decided to greet them, after they left, I noticed on their table there was a lot of food left, untouched, makes you wonder if they were just full? Not wanting to treat this place like a bar, we decided to look at the menu and see what we could order in terms of food. We decided to order the typical dinner box sets that come with these restaurants, one had a teriyaki chicken, the other was a sushi roll combo box-set. I wouldn’t say these boxes were expensive, but there was no deal here for what your getting, lack-luster food, these boxes are served in the big ‘bento’ box like combo’s you usually see at your cheap corner like sushi joint you have near you(come on, you all know the places I’m talking about, all of you got one a stone’s throw away). The food was practically like eating at a food court(quality might actually be better going to those places), and the only thing that helped it was the beers I was having here. The one extra star here is actually for the affordable booze, and the location. How they keep this thing running is probably because people need a place to eat, and that the other joints are packed with people, and then due to being impatient you need another place to get quick eats come here, your close to English Bay, located right along Denman. Be warned, but if your just feasting due to stomach needing food, and your in the area, come on in. They don’t even have a portable POS machine, which means you have to go up to pay as well, but I guess I can’t expect much from this place. Service wasn’t really there, but this place might be for you if you like Bieber singing and sushi eating as a combination.

Little bit above average sushi place. I ordered the wild salmon nigiri, the unagi(eel) and some california roll. I dont know what they put on top of their nigiri but it spoils the taste. The eel was good. California was Meh. I They didnt have tuna tataki in their sashimi menu — what gives? Staff is OK. Nothing special. There are better sushi places in the area…

My fiancé and I have been coming here ever since they opened. We were initially impressed with their sashimi freshness and portions and have been regulars since. However, the last few times we have visited, we’ve noticed that the sashimi portions have been nearly halved and the service is getting worse and worse. The servers themselves are very nice but we suspect they’re being made to take on additional responsibilities like dish washing or cooking in the back, at peak hours no less, and now they are always run off their feet. It is near impossible to get a refill on your drink or get plates, take out boxes etc. because they are so swamped. It reflects poorly on the management and their attitude towards customers when service and food portions/quality deteriorate simply because business picks up. When they first opened, it was clear that the management was trying very hard to attract customers, and their quality of food and service definitely made Mo Mo one of our favourite places to go for fresh and reasonably priced sushi/sashimi. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case and we will be taking our business elsewhere. Off the top of my head, Sushiyama on E Broadway or Samurai on Davie are far better value for the money.
