What a great experience! Every bite of the snapper was an ultra culinary delight! We told them to bring the bistro to austin texas.

I can’t sing their praises enough. The menu is incredibly original, the food is sensational and the service is so far beyond the scope of amazing that it hurts my brain trying to think of it. For my appetizer, I had a deep fried pickled egg. But this wasn’t your pub variety snack, it was a dish so beautifully crafted that it nearly brought a tear to my eye. For my entrée, I went for the snapper. It was so delicious that by this point in the meal, I was bawling uncontrollably. And we hadn’t even gotten to dessert! Any who, dessert was served family style. I had a bite of each and then promptly left because I didn’t want anything to ruin the experience. Long story short: if you’re looking for the best meal of your time in Whistler, this is the place.

Extremely slow service, we did not receive our last dessert until 2 hours and 45 minutes after being seated. Aside from that, desserts were mixed up, our party was split amongst different tables but served at different times, food was overly salty for the main and bland for the appy. For a place with such high prices and high gratuity, I expected much more. When mentioning the poor service to the stuff, nothing but excuses were given(«well, it’s a busy place with lots of people»). I wouldn’t come back or recommend it.

Really great bistro. Excellent food, very creative presentations. We had the tomato gazpacho with foam which was to die for and then the crispy red snapper. Great meal and very friendly service.

One of the best restaurants in whistler! — Artic Char — crispy skin perfectly cooked and served with a unique sesame sauce and perfectly soft boiled egg and picked mushrooms. — Pork Cheek — could eat this every day. Super tender. A smaller portion so I wouldn’t say this is too heavy if you’re looking for something might. It comes with just one scallop — sad so small! — Sour dough oh my god. Small js a quarter load. Ask for butter on the side. If I had to pick a fancy restaurant to visit during my stay, I would recommend Araxi but Alta was really good still.

Great, interesting food in a nice environment. We stopped by as a party of 6 on a Friday evening, and we split a bunch of appetizers and entrees for the table. The beef tongue was an interesting dish, but the highlight for me was the elk tartare and foie gras parfait – I thought the flavor of both components went well together, and it was definitely a unique and tasty dish. I split the braised pork and scallop dish, along with the arctic char, with one of my friends, and I found both dishes fairly well prepared and tasty, both proteins not overcooked and with nice sauces. The desserts were also unique, and the whole meal with two half bottles of wine came out to be a very reasonable price given the amount of food we consumed. I’d definitely recommend this as a place in the area that is suitable for larger sized groups.

Service: TWO Stars Food: FIVE Stars I am going back on forth between two stars and four stars. I ended up choosing 4 stars because the food is more important to me than the service, and I think that the kitchen deserves some credit. I just hope that the service improves so that the kitchen gets the recognition they deserve. My review in detail: We visited Alta Bistro twice on a recent trip to Whistler. The first time we visited, we were impressed with the food. We had the Elk Tartar, Alta’s Deli Board, Arctic Char, and a lavender dessert. All were perfectly prepared. The Elk Tartar is very unique and just perfect. The Deli Board has a great selection of local cheeses and meats, and all were great. The Arctic Char was perfectly cooked and were perfectly paired with lots of great flavors. The kitchen staff knows what they’re doing, and impressed us on every dish. On our first visit, the staff was fine — we were greeted, seated, and felt welcomed. Nothing over-the-top, but were relatively attentive. On our second visit, we arrived and walked in the front door. We saw numerous staff members walk past us, in and out of the kitchen, and around the bar. The bar tender greeted us once, but no one acknowledged our presence. Eventually, after an awkward amount of time, someone greeted us and inquired about our reservation. We were escorted to our table, next to a large wedding party. This wouldn’t normally be a problem, but it seemed that they were requiring the assistance of the entire staff. We listened to the wedding party’s speeches, and listened as they yelled at the staff to turn the music up, and then back down. We purchased a rather expensive bottle of champagne, only for it to be served in white wine glasses. When we inquired as to if this was the norm, we were told that the wedding party had used up all of the restaurant’s champagne glasses. Our food was served in a timely manner. However, one of the staff members brought us a cheese plate, and when we inquired as to what one of the items was, she told us she would check with the kitchen. She never returned. We really talked this restaurant up with our friends after the first visit, but was a little embarrassed with the service on our second visit. I felt like we were at the kids table for the wedding party. With the caliber of this kitchen, I would expect the service to be top-notch.

Excellent spot for dinner in the Whistler village area. Service, ambiance, and food, all on point. The prawn toast with tuna was one of the best I’ve had, as well as the wagyu. Elk tartar as recommended by many was good but a little too much garlic powder. Thanks for the great meal we’ll return!

Stopped by this restaurant for dinner while we were visiting whistler. Had a hard time debating between 2 or 3 stars but settled with 2. We were seated immediately even though we did not have reservations but the seating was right beside the door so it was a little inconvenient since it was cold everytime the door opened but it was our fault for not having reservations. My bf had the pork belly while I had the duck and we had a dozen oysters as our appetizer. Oysters were amazing! So fresh! And our food was excellent even though the portion was small and my bf was still hungry after. The service was terrible which is why I’m giving it 2 stars we waited over 40 mins for our food and not once did someone drop by to ask us how we’re doing or apologizing for the food taking ages. Secondly, after we were done our meal took another 20 mins for someone to come ask us if we’re done which is absolutely absurd if you ask me. Very limited dessert menu, pretty much crap lol. Over all food is excellent but if you’re really hungry the portion will be too small to fill you. Service is terrible. There has to be a better spot to eat in whistler so maybe you should steer clear of this one.

Amazing food. The menu reads like a bunch if weird things, strange combinations, but when the food arrives, the flavors blend together exquisitely. Do not be scared off by the descriptions, the food is outstanding.

Went there for Christmas dinner and had a great dining experience with Alta. We ordered Elk Tartar and Foie Gras Parfait as appetizer, an extremely delicious dish that totally worth to try. For main course we had Christmas special dinner and Alberta Steak. The creative combination made the dish become unique and unforgettable. Highly recommend!

Great experience. Waiters were really friendly and attentive. They were really well informed about the sourcing of their food. My girlfriend considers it a top 5 restaurant experience and she’s gone to many Michelin star restaurants. So good on you! As a family we ordered all of the main course dishes and did it family style with a bunch of the apps as well. Highly recommend the sablefish. Caveat would be if your not into fancy food, probably don’t want to come here(brother didn’t enjoy it as much as a good burrito)

This place seemed to have a solid reputation and was recommended by friends. We started off shaky. This is what happened: I went in early asking about the menu. The one displayed at the entrance said $ 23 for a 3 course prix fixe($ 39 on Saturdays). The female employee told me it was a great deal since it was a Friday night. I was excited and immediately booked a table for a couple of hours later. It was the Thanksgiving long weekend for the Americans so we wanted to ensure a reservation. When we arrived, we noticed the menus at the tables were $ 39 prix fixe menus. I asked the server if there was a mix-up and he said the other price was not applicable. The manager had to come over and I stated my case. I was in the restaurant not that long ago, an employee had just gone over the menu with me, AND it was a Friday not a Saturday, I do believe the customer(that’s me) in this case should be right. I personally think they jacked up the prices early due to the long weekend, sorry American friends. The manager offered to meet me halfway. No thanks. In the end, he agreed to the lower price. The food was very good. We even ordered a few dishes that came with a surcharge. I have no problem paying more if I wasn’t led to believe something else in the first place. This would be a solid 4 star review had I not experienced that which left a negative vibe for the rest of the evening. Would I go back? Unlikely. I much prefer Araxi.

Delicious… We had the 3-course tasting menu. My dinner companion had the elk tartar to start. oh it is to die for !! I had the pumpkin soup spinkled with spices. .it was so-so. Was hoping for a hot soup, but felt like a purée. He win starter choice! Then comes the main… my snapper and claim dish. now this was the highlight of the night. Every bite was an explosion of flavors. He had the pork belly with purple cabbage which he said was good… but my wins! For dessert, we had baked apple tart and a raspberry crème… I think. check out the pictures.. Yum yum!

For our Anniversary this year, we decided to staycation(yes, it is a staycation, it would take as long for me to get to Chilliwack as it does Whistler on most days.) and hit Whistler. Dinner at Alta Bistro on deck after a day at the Scandinave. A suggestion: Elk & Fois Gras Tartar(with duck fat… snow?) is in my «Top 10 Best Things I’ve Ever Ate» list. The crackers/lavash that they make in house topped the charts and thankfully they don’t cheap out on them like so many other restaurants do. Really liked the $ 33 prix fixe($ 29 on weeknights!) and the options were all interesting choices. All other things were as good as one would expect. Ambiance lovely(if a little loud), Service was solid.

I took my partner here for his birthday supper. He loved everything he had; I unfortunately did not. His seafood dish was great as was his gazpacho. I had pieces of beef, I do forget the exact name, with some sort of squash purée+. The meat was tough even though it was medium; the purée had hard seeds that I would confuse with the croûton like crunchies under the purée. I did pick out these hard seeds(5) and the waiter said he had never seen that before. That was it! I don’t see this item on the menu anymore even though I was there a few days ago. $ 34. Hmm. The dessert for $ 13 was an apricot honey cake confection in a tiny cup portion. The little apricot pieces were frozen solid. This was beyond disappointing as a dessert. The drinks were great and the barmaid made me a terrific mojito. So we each had mixed experiences. The staff was friendly and accommodating, if a bit disinterested in a customer getting hard seeds that were not chewable. Would I go back? Not in the near future.

Every bite is a surprise This was the fancy dinner night for my girls weekend getaway. When I first wanted into the restaurant, I was immediately attracted to the smell, it was delicious. The environment was very casual and cozy, which I liked. I ordered from the 3 course for 30 menu, and wow I was blown away. The spring salad had a curry kick to it, yum. The butter milk fried chicken was fried to perfection and the flavor just lingers in your month. The pork lion was a little salty for my liking, but still very very delicious. The portions are pretty generous, it’s definitely worth trying

Was looking for a nice place to take my boyfriend for his birthday. After some Unilocal searching, I came across Alta Bistro. I called them up and made a dinner reservation, also including that we were celebrating a birthday. It took us a little while to find Alta. We knew it was on Main Street, but we went the wrong way down Main Street. Alta Bistro is located by the library across from HYs Steakhouse. When we got to the restaurant I was a little disappointed that the host and waiter never once wished him a happy birthday. I know my boyfriend didn’t care, but I’m a girl: P I care about those little details. The Grub. [[ ELKTARTAR $ 18 ]] This elk tartar and foie gras parfait is served with Parsley, endive, apple, shallots, cocoa nibs, and crackers. I thought this dish was interested. I honestly just ordered it because I never tried Elk before! [[ BLACKCOD $ 36 ]] Served with matelot sauce, cauliflower, coriander, crispy chicken skin, and dill. I thought this dish was made perfectly. [[ DUCKLEG $ 33 ]] The duck leg is served with boulangere potato, blood orange, chicory, compressed pear nasturtiums, and sunflower seeds. I personally like duck a lot, so I thought this dish was good as well. I thought the sunflower seeds were a bit random though. [[ DUCKFATPOTATOES $ 9 ]] Meh. It was alright. Overall: I thought this place was alright. A little more on the pricey end, but they had some good and interesting dishes.
