What a beautiful restaurant… very classy and elegant. The staff was very nice and the service was great. I tried the Octopus with Adobado seasoning… it was really good… but my husband ordered the Shrimp with Adobado seasoning and it was Amazing! Very nice place, kind of romantic, nice patio views.

I used to come to this place every time I come to cancun, but this past time was my last one. It used to be a seafood restaurant. My favorite dish was the sopa de mariscos, but they removed from the menu. Now is like a typical tourist place. Chicken, beef, burgers? Ughhh I am still giving 3 stars because their mojitos are the best! Service is always good too.

All I can say is wow. I don’t what the nay sayers are talking about. This place is awesome! Better service then I’ve had in the states. I had the grilled crab legs and Filet Mignon. Cooked perfectly. Oysters cold and fresh too. Ask for Carlos and Israel. You will not be disappointed. I promise. Btw the bathrooms are spotless and you get shots of mouth wash. What more can you say.

Went to Fred’s last night. The food was overpriced compared to other restaurants in the same area. The wait staff was idiotic — coming to our table many times to remind us that if we needed something to let them know. As opposed to? The food was ok but not worth the price and the wait staff was annoying. We will not go back as there are many better options in the area.

If you make reservations for 6:45pm you will be just in time to view the beautiful sunset. We are staying at the JW Marriott and decided to walk across to Fred’s for dinner. We were greeted by Andrea the hostess who was very warm and welcoming. We has indoor reservations by the window in order to view the sun setting(you can also sit outdoors if you font mind the heat). Our waiter Cruz presented us with a tray of the seafood selection for dinner. My husband had the catch of the day a whole Snapper fried with Thai chili sauce. I sampled it — It was fresh and delicious! I had the Fred special — 8 oz seasoned grilled shrimp, 8 oz king crab legs and 8 oz filet mignon. I was not disappointed. I had enough of spicy Mexican food and wanted to eat something on a less spicier level. There where lots of sauces to accompany the meal however, I was happy with the fresh taste of grilled seafood. By far the service was excellent! Cruz and Victor our waiters where a great pair. Sergio stopped by to make sure we enjoyed our meal. One thing — I gave them four stars because the lobster bisque I had was fishy in flavor. It was not that rich taste that you never get enough of from eating lobster bisque. It had small chunks of lobster meat but maybe a little more white wine would do the trick. There is room for improvement. Overall I enjoyed the meal and the service at Fred’s. Great evening.

The best meal we had in Cancun! As a massive foodie and self proclaimed chef I highly recommend this restaurant. Everything was impeccable, from the succulent Grilled Calamari appetizer to the scandalous apple pie pizza dessert. I really can’t rave enough about this place. The service was fantastic. I asked a bus boy where the restroom was and not only did he politely show me, but he walked me there and nudged the door open for me. Who does that? I once asked a waiter in Le Cirque where the restroom was and without making eye contact he gestured to the right and kept walking. Blah. The manager came to our table and asked how everything was with sincere interest. We ended up ordering a second round of appetizers after our main meal. It was that good. We also ended up tipping our waiter 70% of the total bill. We NEVER do that, we aren’t Rothschild’s, but this guy really deserved it. If you’re in Cancun don’t do yourself the disservice of missing out on the culinary gem. If we ever go back, Fred will definitely see us again.

Dined here for dinner while staying across the street at CasaMagna. Ambience — fancier restaurant in cancun in the hotel zone. We sat outside and had a view of the lagoon. It was pretty if you don’t mind occasional smell from the water but they warned us of that. Food — food was very fresh. They come to your table with a platter of fresh seafood and tell you about each one and how it’s cooked. I ordered the lobster which was very very good and fresh! It was grilled to perfection with warm butter on the side. The shrimp tacos were very good as well, and the grilled vegetables were a perfect side. One of the best dishes was the tuna tartar appetizer — soooo good! The banana churros were the perfect finish. Service — excellent, very attentive and accommodating. Drinks — classic mojito and Fred’s martini both very good cocktails — mojito a bit tangy/sweet; they give you a sugar cane stick in both Overall a delicious dinner outside of the hotels in cancun. The seafood is on the higher end but it’s very fresh and cooked perfectly, so it’s worth it! Recommend to others looking for delicious dinner outside of your hotel options.

Hands down the best place to get Oysters in Cancun. We came here just for the oysters(they have 4 types) and ended up with: — the very best homemade bread, the my bake it in 3 flavors, regular, onion and jalapeño. — calamari the size of onion rings — hamachi serves on a cold stone(amazing!!!) — clam chowder — side salad — the Iceberg dessert!(Cold cream with strawberries, yum) Not to mention the VERY best staff. I’m so impressed with their friendliness, their attentiveness(I mentioned I was tired and he brought me a red bull) and their service(fast, hot and delicious). Would recommend this place hands down…

I’d give 3.5 stars. Fred’s has a nice atmosphere, and if you go around supper time, you may catch beautiful views of sunset. In terms of food, complimentary chips that came with sauces were good. Arrachera tacos were amazing; it was one of better tacos I’ve had during this trip. Seafood fettuccine looked really good but shrimps were tough, almost rubbery. I don’t think they did a good job of handling mussels, because I bit into some small pieces of shells in the pasta. I didn’t like their complimentary dessert, some egg thing. Service was friendly but a waiter didn’t understand our request due to language barrier and didn’t follow through.

We ate at a different resturant for dinner each night during our stay in Cancun. However, if I had to do it all over again, I would have come back to Fred’s at least once more. First let me say that I can count on one hand the amount of times that I have received such high level of service. We actually had three waiters assigned to our table… that’s right… THREE! And this was not because this place was empty either. They are consistently working off of 24−36+hr out reservation times and even then you may not be sitting down until after 9pm. But the service was so exceptional that if you accidentally dropped your napkin on the floor there was someone to pick it up for you before you could even begin to think about doing so. The service was matched equally by the food quality. From the outstanding crab cakes appetizers, fresh made guacamole, and the most delicious crab legs I have ever eaten, to the captivating coconut mojitos and flat apple caramel pie dessert; this place was excellent from the first bite/sip to the very last! I will look forward to being back to this wonderful city again soon and when I do, I will most certainly be back to Fred’s. Very well done!

Even though this place was very expensive, the food here was absolutely FANTASTIC! We were recommended this place by the concierge at our hotel. Thank God we went! It has been the best dinner at Cancún so far. The staff is all extremely attentive and very very nice! Most everyone there spoke English very well so that was also a plus. I loved the mojitos, both were excellent! We had a mandarin mojito and a coconut mojito. Very flavorful! For appetizers, we had the guacamole dip. That would be the one thing I didn’t like that much. It was a very liquid based guacamole and I prefer thick chunky guacamole. I did however like the red chile sauce that also went with the guacamole. For dinner I had rhe mussels with the mixed vegetables. I loved the mixed vegetables!!! The portions were much larger than I thought they would be but the vegetables were absolutely delicious! They had amazing light oil and seasoning. The mussels were extremely good too! I got a great portion and I just love mussels in general. The sauce was nice to try and it was more liquid based than I thought it would be, but it was still good. I could definitely taste the tequila! My friend got the grilled tuna. It was wonderful how the waiter asked her to check the meat and make sure she liked how it was cooked. We sent it back without a problem to get it cooked a little more and then it was perfect. The portion again was fantastic and bigger than what we expected! For desert, we shared a dulce leche soufflé. It takes 15 minutes to prepare but it was DEFINITELY worth it! One of the best deserts I’ve had! It wasn’t too sweet and it wasn’t too soupy or dry. It was fantastic! All in all it is a fantastic place and we will definitely be going back! The prices are definitely worth it! At the end of the night they give out free shaved ice with condensed milk as a thank you for coming. It was also fantastic!(Also helps make me want to come back! Free desert!)

We had a lovely evening in this seafood restaurant across the street from the JW Marriott and Casa Magna Marriott in Cancun & walking distance from the Ritz Carlton. We started the evening with the bartender’s suggestion… Fred’s Martini… just a touch of spicy served with a red chile pepper. The chef started us with a tasty tiny cup of soup and some toasted tortillas with two dipping sauces. We had a great octopus appetizer… recommended by our waiter. For the entrees, my husband enjoyed grilled salmon, and I had 7 delightfully seasoned and grilled jumbo shrimp. We also enjoyed a jelote corn side dish. The chef gave us a complimentary dessert that tasted like sorbet with a fruity liqueur, that was a great ending. Our table on the water of the lagoon was lovely, as we enjoyed a golden Cancun sunset! Fred’s staff was very attentive and helpful… excellent service!

This was by far the best customer service we have experienced in Cancun & we have been here for almost two weeks. It seemed unreal and was such an awesome experience. We were dressed in shorts and tees, with swimsuits underneath, but we weren’t treated any differently than those who were in sundresses or dressed for lunch. They were also accommodating in regards to which table we wanted(inside or outside & then if we wanted to have a view or not.) Our server was attentive, prompt and helpful. He wanted to know where we were from & really made the experience much better. The food was delicious, starting with the ceviche and their table appetizers(salsas & tortilla chips along with shrimp broth with saltines.) My boyfriend ordered fish tacos and I ordered the salmon. I have to admit this was the best salmon I’ve ever had and with all the traveling I do, and how much I order salmon, that is saying A LOT. The strawberry mojito was delicious & just so incredibly fruity and fresh. We enjoyed the ambience, casual or higher scale depending on what you want to make it, and I would 150% recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area!

Fred’s was such a nice surprise for us! We stayed at the CasaMagna Marriott across the road. On our first night we went walking and stopped by Fred’s for a drink. Everyone was so incredibly nice we came back to eat there and socialize with the bartenders and servers. The food and drinks were really good! They also gave some great advice about things to see in Cancun. I’d recommend this place, definitely! If you are in a large party, make a reservation to ensure you don’t wait too long!

You go hoping for a good table with a view, but you don’t get one. Fail. Even though we had a reservation. Food is very mediocre at best. Tuna TarTar was tasteless, ceviche appetizer was bland, seafood stew needed major seasoning, even the paella was so tasteless that it was Un-enjoyable! Clearly pre-made and not fresh. I’ve had much better in NYC!!! Not sure where all these previous«fabulous food» reviews come. For the price tag, it’s a joke! Skip this place! Unless you want overpriced, tasteless, mediocre food. Maybe the martini was good… not sure.

I suspect Fred’s is owned by the same company as Harry’s and Puerto Madero. They are all right next to each other, with similar architecture and similar presentation, which means you have five people assigned to your table whose job it is to get you to order lots of mediocre food, speed you up and push you out the door if you don’t break a certain tab — $ 150US maybe? First off, they wheel out the pushcart of different seafood on ice with a sales spiel on each one. They do this at all the restaurants listed above. Sheesh. We ordered drinks and an appetizer to start — 5 giant clams. They brought out the free appetizer(which is really bad) — a plate of fried taco shells essentially, some topped with cayenne, and a giant carousel of hot sauces, plus 2 small plates and 3 more side dishes of sauce for each of us(total 6). With the clams came more plates and more side dishes. Within 30 seconds of dropping off the clams, the head waiter comes by to ask how it is. Another 30 seconds 4 waiters start clearing all the items related to the free appetizer. Another 30 seconds later, while we are each chewing on our first clams, they start taking away the empty shells, and try to take away all the spices. My partner firmly but politely told them he was eating and to wait, so, I kid you not, two of the busboys hid behind a nearby column and peeped their heads out every 15 seconds to see if it was safe. Finally, as my partner lifts the 5th clam but before he has had a chance to add any sauce to it, 4 waiters come over, clear everything and then another group brings the main courses while he is still chewing. I get they hire a lot of waitstaff and in Mexico, ‘teams’ handle each table, but this is ridiculous. The main dishes were pretty weak. Shrimp prepared in different ways. Nothing special, and absolutely not enough food for dinner. We wanted to order more food, but they started clearing our plates after we had each just had one shrimp. It was ridiculous. This was the worst dining experience we’ve had in a long time, and so of course, you know it can only get worse. How worse? The table next to us — a family of five. The father starts shaking and looks like he is having a heart attack. The wife calls for help. The tell her they have called an ambulance but only after she pays. So they rush to print up the check, even though none of them have eaten any of their food. Then someone in charge thinks it would make sense to move the guy, now in convulsions and half paralyzed, foaming at the mouth, turning purple. Four waiters try to drag the poor guy out the door, so as not to disturb the other diners. Easily the most reckless and terrible thing I’ve ever witnessed. The poor 8 year old son watching as his father dies on the spot, and they are making the mother rifle through her purse for a credit card! Frankly you’re all a bunch of b*stards. We were certain the man was dead on the floor as we left as the ambulance came to the door. MIRACULOUSLY, on our last night in Mexico, we run into the family. Turns out he wasn’t having a heart attack. It was paralytic seafood poisoning! Makes sense, seeing as this is a seafood restaurant. He was in the hospital for 2 days but luckily survived. I am not blaming the restaurant for the poisoning, though one could. I am blaming them for the way they handled it. We wanted to intervene but we don’t speak the language and were in a foreign country. We were so shaken up — by being rushed, forced to sit through a high pressured sales pitch on food to order(felt like the timeshare racket you suffer through in cancun), the mediocre food and then seeing this. No one died when we ate at Harry’s or Puerto Madero, but it was the same high pressured sales tactics and rushed service. I’ll stick with hotel restaurants over this any day.

When I started looking for places to eat in Cancun, I couldn’t decide between Fred’s and another place, so I decided to try both on different nights. I’m glad I did, because we liked the atmosphere a lot better at Fred’s than the other place. You feel welcome from the moment you walk in here. Known for their fresh oysters and seafood, everything seems to be fresh and local. We made reservations on OpenTable… Something I suggest as the place is located across from several hotels and was fairly busy when we were there. We ordered a half bottle of wine and the shrimp cocktail to start. A stack of fresh tortillas and sauces came out«on the house» along with a small shot of shrimp broth. The shrimp cocktail was delicious; the shrimp was excellent and the cocktail sauce was so/so. For my main course, I did the lobster tacos in a chipotle sauce and we split an order of grilled asparagus. Tim did the grilled tuna steak, cooked rare. His tuna steak was huge and grilled just right. It just lacked any seasoning. Same with the grilled asparagus; perfectly cooked but lacking seasoning. My lobster tacos were just the right size. A mixture of lobster and a chipotle/mayonnaise sauce in two flour tortillas piled with cilantro and cabbage. Having these without and aides would make for a really small meal though. Or a decent appetizer. For dessert, the banana Nutella cake caught my eye so we went with it. A layered dish of banana flan with a chocolate cake came out with Nutella spread on top with a side of vanilla Hagen Daz ice cream. Way too much for two of us to eat, so we picked that the chocolate crust and the ice cream. As the finale to our meal, our server brought shaved ice with vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon for us to try. By this point we were beyond stuffed and only had a couple of bites, but it was delicious too. Everything from the service to the food to the atmosphere was a solid 5 star experience. Give this place a try!

Service is what makes Fred’s standout. From the moment you walk in until the minute you leave you are showered with attention. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience. While the service was the star of the show the food was a close second. The shrimp cocktail was fresh and the NY strip while a bit fattier than normal was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Really enjoyed the grilled corn on the cob, it was delivered with several topping options but I choose to eat it as delivered and it was exceptional. Highly recommend Fred’s!

Ruben was our server and want an awesome job he did for us. He service was impeccable! It started with a nice view on the back deck on the water. I asked for a Bacardi and Coke. He brought out the bottle and started pouring and said«tell me when to stop it is up to you on how drunk you want to get» ! Then we ordered the Carnitas Octopus that was so damn god I could have eaten a whole plate of it. Very tender and packed with flavor. I order Grouper and Prawns and my wife surf and turf. A 12 on New York and 4 big prawns for surf and turf. Both of us had a side of grilled veggies. The NY was cooked to a perfect Med Rare, The Grouper was cooed perfectly and still very juicy, The prawns where done great as well and oh so sweet and succulent! The best part of Rubens service was that he was there to take care of every need but did not hover over our table. The pace has a nice décor inside and out. If you sit inside there are huge windows facing the water. The bathrooms are spotless too! Definitely not your typical Mexican restaurant in Mexico and you will pay good money for your meal. But screams Mexico with the service and charm and fresh seafood and very much worth every dollar!

We wanted to try a seafood place for dinner we came across this restaurant which just so happen to be located across the street from our hotel nice & easy. We walked in for dinner our group was 8 people no problem being seated, we sat inside since it was so hot out but also because the wait to sit outside was longer. They start u off with 2 different tortillas plain & spicy this comes with some sauces, avocado sauce not bad a bit spicy the other red sauce has quite the kick if u like spicy this ones for u whoa it should come with an alert hot hot! Once seated we got a few appetizers Crab Cakes are amazing, nice big piece good for sharing but u really may not want to this was very good fried yes but did not taste greasy at all the creamy sauce it comes with is really good as well. Shrimp quesadillas were really good, nice taste with good amount of shrimp plenty of cheese & lettuce on top. We also tried the Lobster Tacos, good as well. On the main dishes we had the Seafood pasta delicious great tasting pasta good sauce with a good amount of seafood. On the shrimp Coconut Shrimp was good a bit over cooked with the coconut coating but not bad at all nice size dish. The Shrimp Al Pastor was also pretty good. Chicken tacos were pretty good even though they look more like flautas nice taste with plenty of cheese & lettuce on top. The Caesar salad was good never have I tried such a thick salad dressing that was still very tasty, the creamy texture was very good. Amazing side dish was the Cheese mash potatoes, yummm the potatoes were great so creamy & cheesy can’t go wrong. The Grilled Shrimp al ajillo, good shrimp comes with yellow rice & finally the Garlic shrimp rice this comes in like a clay pot looks way bigger than it is & its over loaded with shrimp lord all mighty big group needless to say we all shared & still there were shrimp left. The restaurant itself is nice walking in u come across the wine cellar & the big display of seafood which is so weird & scary to look at damm them lobster’s are the size of dogs… huge crab legs are so creepy to look at. Nice ambiance, out door seating plus indoor, service was good & prices were decent this was one of the best meals we had in Cancun.

This was probably my most expensive meal in Mexico. Most of the entrees on the menu were $ 20USD and up. The restaurant is pretty nice with indoor and outdoor seating. If you sit outside, you can look out onto the water. We got the shrimp ceviche as an appetizer and it was delicious. It was so fresh. For entrees we had the seared tuna and catch of the day which was a whole grilled grouper. The only problem I had was when we were seated, it took the waiter a long time to give us the menu. And when he gave us the menu, it was only the cocktail and wine menu, not the food menu. But we’re not drinkers so we didn’t want anything from the drink menu and the waiter never came by for us to ask for the food menu. So it was about 15−20mins before we actually got the food menu. Other than that, everything else was good.

In an area punctuated by hotel after hotel, but refreshingly free from the further-north Cancun ilk that is defined by the Spring Break scene, Fred’s House is a nice respite for the non-Spring Break crowd at far-removed from the touristy madness. In dining at Fred’s, you will find yourself surrounded by tourists and locals alike, all with the commonality of wanting to celebrate something in a more upscale — yet within reach — environment. In my one visit to Fred’s, we were surrounded by a crowd that included Mexican locals, Spanish tourists, British ex-pats, and fellow American tourists. We truly didn’t need a reservation, and were able to walk across the street to Fred’s from our nest at the JW Marriott Cancun. They do take reservations, however, if you’re wanting your concierge to assure you are seated in one of their more intimate booths, out on the patio overlooking the marina, or within view of the fresh seafood display/prep area. Your friendly, professional, and English/Spanish fluent waitstaff will immediately bring you a wine/cocktail menu to peruse, with many options for all budgets. Nice wine list, I noted. Prepare yourself for a 5-minute presentation of their fresh seafood and local catches, brought to your table over ice on a wheeled cart… quite the spectacle, but does help you to see what you’re ordering from the bilingual menu. Cocktails are reasonably priced at about $ 8-$ 9USD for fresh-made Mojitos in a variety of preparations; I recommend the Coconut Mojito and the Fred’s Mojito! Get yourself some wine by the glass or carafe; you’ll find myriad options for less than $ 20USD. We enjoyed the complimentary crispy corn tortillas served with the mild green sauce, spicier red sauce, and«amuse bouche» in the form of a warm shrimp soup shooter. Nonetheless, we were very hungry and ordered three appetizers: the Octopus Carnitas dish remains one of our very favorite meals from the trip — do yourself a favor and order it. The crab cake was over-priced and way over-fried and too heavy on the mayo and tartar sauce, IMO. I enjoyed the tuna tartare tostada, but I would recommend you ask for them to go light on the cream drizzle or leave it on the side, as it took away from the tuna flavor and made the tostada a little soggy. As for the mains, I opted for their catch of the day, which was grouper, and had it prepared according to the«Chile Seco»(dry chile rub) option on the menu — WOW! What a punch — imagine a HUGE portion of fresh and local grouper, sauteed and presumably finished in the oven, with a very hearty covering of hot dried chiles and chile oil — yum! Served also with sliced avocado and rice, this dish was a hit. I also tossed some of that spicy red salsa from the complimentary appetizer along with it for extra bang. My husband ordered the made-to-order(read: takes extra time to prepare) Mixed Paella, and was fairly happy with it, although it had quite a bit more chicken than other typical paella items such as sausage, fish, and shellfish. Both entrees amounted to $ 27USD. We didn’t save room for dessert, which was a bummer, because I really would have liked to have tried the Banana Nutella Cake or the Apple Pizzetta! However, it was a nice end-of-meal surprise and delight to be served the boat of shaved ice with the homemade«egg nog» drizzle on top as a palate cleanser. Service was awesome all-around; our two waiters made sure every need was attended to, plates were cleared, table cleaned between courses, genuinely friendly, etc. Easy to transact; completed payment with AMEX and charged in pesos as per our request, and definitely a great way to have kicked off a little getaway to Cancun!
