Maybe I got them on a bad day but the sushi rice was inedible. It was overcooked to the point that it was like rice flavoured paste. I really want to avoid being an internet troll but I had to throw it out. People should make up their own mind but if they agree then maybe mentioning it to them would help. Place is clean and staff are friendly, so no issue there, but PLEASE fix the rice.

Banzai Sushi is the kind of place I head on a lunch break when I’m feeling uninspired. The great thing about heading to a sushi place is you can choose between a whole range of different flavours while still knowing you’re being extremely unimaginative, particularly if you’re like me and just default to sushi when you don’t know what to eat. This place is nice and clean and pretty busy around the lunch rush. There’s honestly nothing that stands out about Banzai over and above other sushi places — it’s just good stock standard rice ‘n’ your-choice of meat with rice. No complaints, but nothing to write home about at the same time.

When Bian is packed, I head on up to Banzai. They have a massive selection of Sushi, with a few odd choices — including a lot of raw fish options. They also have quite a large selection that don’t come in seaweed, which no doubt has its attractions for a fair few of the more«conservative» tastes. They do free green tea and super cheap miso soup, so you can fill up on liquids as well as Sushi, or try out one of the other options — I’ve never actually bothered. It can get super hot in there, for some reason they seem quite adverse to turning on the air con, so try grab a table seat outside on a hot day.

I love Banzai Sushi, for me its one of the best I have tried. Whenever I go I want to try all of them and always ending up picking more than what I actually need, oh well I just have to eat them all. I especially love the ones with spicy sauce on them. I just find that they have a really good selection and they are all very nice and tasty. My vegetarian friend also comments that they have a good vegetarian range. As well as the standard sushi and miso soup they also Udon Noodles and they have an Express Bowl selection. You can either eat at the shop — nothing fancy but its clean enough or take out. Yum yum !

Banzai Sushi is a very orderly and well-kept sushi bar directly on the corners of Symonds Street and Newton Road. The clean and brightly lit shop attract flocks of workers throughout the week. Here you will find a wide variety of maki and California roll and other Western-styled sushi. The food is aesthetically pleasing but is coated in sauces and sprinkles, which can be fun for people who aren’t very proficient with chopsticks or who(like myself) have facial hair. Instead of polite Japanese manners, the staff looked like they wanted to get back into the kitchen. A tidy, if commercial shop, and if someone says they feel like«sushi» this will be what they are after.

Banzai is your typical mid-range sushi and donburi place. The food is decent, although on occasion I’ve found the sushi to be a little dry. Not a major complaint, but there it is. The donburi is much better — big hot bowls of rice and meat and salad(and Japanese mayonnaise, always so much better than other mayonnaise), this is a very good lunch deal if you’re in the area. You can eat in although the place isn’t massive. Or you can take your food away and make your co-workers jealous of your huge, delicious and(at least in appearance) healthy lunch, while they grumble about their bakery pie or last night’s leftovers.
