Good selection on menu(includes gf, df, v options), nice coffee, accommodating, friendly staff. Good indoor outdoor seating area, including one outdoor area at the back close to a small box of toys… Yes, its kids friendly, theres a children’s menu and they will bring you colouring page and pencils when you arrive with kids. We have had lunch here a few times… Your meal usually arrives within 20 minutes, they will let you know how long it’s expected.

Francs make a killer«Superfood Salad» — kale, sprouts, carrots, broccoli, zucchini, radishes, red onion, quinoa topped with whipped feta, smashed avo and sunflower seeds and a ginger and miso dressing. You can order it with chicken($ 5) or tuna($ 9), but we got a plate of falafel instead and my friend ordered the beef burger(the bacon jam will not disappoint!!). Such a groovy place, with a beautiful beachfront view. Only weird thing was that our milkshake came out in a paper Mc Donald’s styled cup? Strange — very strange haha Only other downside was that the staff were a little inattentive(one table left while we were there because of the delay in getting water/menus to their table). So get a table close to the waiters to ensure prompt service. We were sitting out the front on the deck/in the sun, and found they didn’t really come around to check in how the meals were or offer us another round of drinks. This side of hospo, I think is so important to make the experience complete especially in this day and age where people are spoilt for choice. 5⁄5 for the food — 3⁄5 for the service.

Finally got to try Francs this rainy Sunday afternoon… I’ve been fascinated to come here ever since seeing the string of negative reviews. We didn’t try the food, so I can’t speak to that side of things… but the coffee was great, ditto the ambiance ~ love the décor, the wooden paneling, the open, spacious layout etc… I think they’ve done a great job on this front, and I’d be happy to relax here for hours with my laptop or a book or whatever. Music was turned up super loud, which was a bit annoying but then it does advertise itself as a sports bar. It struck us as being quite busy for an overcast Sunday afternoon: a mostly youthful, posh crowd… really upbeat atmosphere, on the whole. The staff were super friendly, to the last. That’s always a small yet all-important detail. I think this place will be a hit in summer; I can just imagine sitting here over lunch with a pristine sky in the background and crowds of beachgoers across the way.

Well, the location won’t be cheap, so it was with some anticipation that I took my wife for lunch at the new much-awaited water-facing Takapuna dining spot. We were somewhat bemused by the décor, trying to figure out what it was they were trying to create while we waited… and waited… and waited. Way too long guys! Not acceptable. When finally my order was taken and our dishes served, the upside was my cauliflower soup was very good indeed. Spot on! My wife’s waffles however were very dry and overall very disappointing. Not sure if I’ll be back soon. After having been open 7 months now, I’d expect the kinks to have been ironed out by now. Will keep an eye on reviews.

What a waste of a great location. The coffee was undrinkable which I’ve never experienced in New Zealand. The staff were friendly at least but that doesn’t make up for such poor quality. Very sad as we’d finally taken the chance to grab a snack with the kids after running around on the beach after the flea market.

Nice place for drinks and enjoying sunshine and the view. Foods look not so good, but haven’t tried. But the location is great if you re in takapuna. You will enjoy the drinks and beautiful surroundings

Dreadful!!! Shocking — cheap nasty bar — no atmosphere — staff weird — overkill with water at 2pm in the afternoon

What a complete let down. I was excited that Takapuna Beach finally has a strip of restaurant/bars in an amazing beach view location. Franc’s had been open about 10 days when I ventured there with friends for breakfast. The service was disappointing and the coffee was u drinkable. My companion ordered an iced coffee which she couldn’t drink either. We quickly decided to move in and enjoy our breakfast morning elsewhere. A shame. As the location is brilliant. Perhaps they’re having ‘teething’ issues, but I honest don’t intend going back there!!!

Great seaside position in Takapuna. Best seats are out on the deck where you can take in the beach views and enjoy a late night breeze. I came just for drinks, knowing the food hadn’t been getting good reviews. The tomato sauce on the tables sets the scene, this isn’t fine dining, more burgers and fries(they did look good though as they came past). I’ll give this place some more time before I return.

I was born sixty years ago on the land that Francs now occupies and it delights me that finally there are eating establishments facing the water where I learned to swim. I will return for sundowner drinks but until the food improves I won’t be dining there. Breakfast(eggs benedict) was a leathery affair, both the bacon and the bagel(burnt around the edges) would have made good shoe leather. I couldn’t help but notice another customer having the same reaction, chewing his cud; me, an old mare and he, put out to pasture. There was a knowing wink. We don’t complain because it makes a scene when you are part of a celebratory breakfast. The hollandaise(please tell me it wasn’t UHT from a tetrapak) had no tang of lemon and the spinach might have moistened the mouthful if there was more of it. The eggs were good, as was the coffee. I have to echo the previous reviewer, C’mon Guys, this is a foolproof location and a beautiful fit out, well done, but you might have to steal the breakfast recipes from Stanleys’ before you stake a reputation in the No 1 place in my heart.

Location is fantasic we sat inside due to the heat today the staff are very friendly and helpful. It is a shame that I can not say the same for the food I had the chicken sandwich toasted interesting slant on toasted it was a warm piece of focacia with what I called a warm chicken cassarole straight from a wattles can. I know this is harsh but come on guys this is not a hard to cook good food. My friend ordered a Bahn MI and he got a pulled pork sandwich. Our waitress did offer us a complimentary glass of wine for the stuff up. The pork was dry. This is the second time we have been here and we won’t be going back for a meal sorry guys
