The roast pork is awesome. One of the best in Auckland. It gets pretty busy here during lunch time. Lunch is great. But dinner is average, limited dish selections compared to some other Chinese dinner place.

Golden BBQ Noodle House is pretty much no-fuss, fast and easy Chinese food. It’s set out a bit like a café, with tiled floors and cheap tables and chairs, pictures of food around the room. They do dine in or takeout, but it’s probably more a place you’d take out. The prices are good, I mean, meats on rice for like, $ 10 type deal. And it’s fast. Boy it is fast. You want noodles in a hurry? This is where to go. It’s located in Eden Quarter, and the surroundings are kind of depressing, but I mean, it’s very cheap and it doesn’t really need fancy décor or views. Probably not the best place to go if you’re on a diet. You can feel the oil in the air in that joint.

GBNH(aficionados only ever use the acronym) is a cheap and cheerful Chinese restaurant in that weird elbow of shops near the Mt Eden supermarket. It’s your usual Auckland Chinese, with any number of variations on rice, noodles, meat, fish, veges and poultry, along with the requisite green tea to wash it down. Recommended dish: Char Kway Teow, a mix of fried rice noodles, egg, sprouts, meat and seafood. Kind of like Pad Thai, if Pad Thai was trying to kill you through a delicious heart attack. Best shared, this is a delicious dish, but quite an effort to finish alone. Maybe get some veges with it to balance out the meat assault.
