Even better than I remember! Lovely arrangement on offer of French delicacies, fresh and packaged. Cheese, meat, sweet treats, bread, chocolates, etc. Friendly, fast service, no compalints there. Lovely set up on the displays, and seating options. I was surprised that all the coffees come in takeaway containers, seemed like an excess of rubbish that could be avoided — that is my only qualm though!

Very nice food and coffee, friendly staff, though a slightly awkward layout on the premises. There are no toilets but public ones at Rocket Park across the street are visible from the café. If it’s raining, the staff will let you behind the counter to use the facilities out the back.

This place is a regular for us. The playground is across the road so we can threaten the kid to be good while we have coffee. The service is super friendly and if you don’t try the Chateaubriand, you are dumb in the brain.

Pyrenees Delicatessen is a bit of an icon around Mt Albert — it is the only store like it in the area. Both a delicious café with great coffees, hot chocolates, tarts and salads as well as a deli serving delectable cheeses, breads, olives and oils, Pyrenees is a delight on all fronts. The atmosphere of the café is really relaxed and has a definite community vibe, which is always nice. The deli has lots of regulars and with the large wooden table positioned in the window, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee, have a catch up and watch kids play in the park across the road. Last time I was there my friend and I indulged in chai lattes and macaroons and the combination was brilliant. Pyrenees is the kind of place you can spend hours chatting in, and that’s exactly what we did. The staff are so friendly, not once did they make us feel as though we needed to move on or order anything more. Pyrenees is the ultimate catch up spot! Tip: The deli itself is tucked behind the traffic lights by the infamous Rocket Park so can be easily missed — keep your eyes peeled for it!

Anyone who knows me knows I mumble. Add to this an inability to correctly pronounce any foreign word of any language, and you can see why I get deeply uncomfortable ordering at places like this. Luckily my girlfriend speaks French, so I got her to do all the talking. This place is like a café crossed with a bakery crossed with a deli, so somewhere in that mix there’s probably something that appeals to you. Most of the baked goods have a description in English next to the French name, so you can rest assured that the complicated and intimidating thing you’ve had ordered for you is really just an apple turnover. And it was a delicious apple turnover, so I can only extrapolate that the rest of their stuff is delicious too — and a bit different from the standard bakery or café fare. New things aren’t always terrifying tongue twisters, it turns out.

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. This deli has all the most amazing French treats. They have a bakery, deli and a freezer that has premade French pastries in it. I love to buy these, pop them in the oven ten minutes before I have people over and whip out freshly baked French delights as if I’ve been slaving over them all day. It works a treat every time. All I can say is thanks Pyrenees for making me look like a domestic goddess! They have a huge long table where you can sit and have a strong coffee and a croissant while reading the morning paper. Or you can get it to takeaway and go sit in the park across the road.

Today I savoured a dense, chocolately and super delicious chocolate and walnut slice at Pyrénées. YUM. Very decadent. There’s quite the enticing selection of French pastries and other goodies, including charcuterie items and free range roast chicken. There are cheeses, provençal olives and jams. There’s a large dining table for communal sitting as well as a few more intimate seats. The staff were smiling, the food looked good, if only there wasn’t a mildly panicked pigeon fluttering a bit too close to my head trying to get out(luckily it found the door quickly). I also enjoyed a couple of bites of a chasson au pomme(my boyfriend ate the rest — it was his choice after all) which had all the buttery pastry of your dreams.
