Downgrade! My review that is. Hubby and I had lunch here today. Bit disappointed really. My coffee was bland(hubby liked his though!), and spinach, pumpkin, feta filo was soggy(warmed in a microwave?), and only lukewarm. Hubby had a huge serving of eggs bene with salmon, looked great but he said the salmon wasn’t fresh. We shared a passionfruit, coconut lemon slice that looked amazing but was far too sweet and tasted stale, with no hint of lemon at all. In my first review, a couple of years back, I congratulated staff on how relaxed under the pressure they appeared, today was different. This might have been an ‘off’ day, but the woman serving us was friendly, but also visibly stressed with utterances under her breath at the till. The young waitress was friendly and more ‘cool’ when challenges presented themselves. If it wasn’t for my first few visits here that I enjoyed, today would have quite easily resulted in a two-star rating.

We were passing through the area and had time to kill for a coffee. I tried their toasted bagel with bacon, avocado and cream cheese, whilst my wife had the buttered toast. Both enjoyed their food washed down with nice coffee’s. Enjoyed looking out the big windows at the vista of West Auckland from the rear of the café while we ate. Shame about the wind and rain, oh well !!!

I don’ know why but I always end up coming to Fringe whenever I come to Titirangi for lunch or coffee. Maybe because someone I knew used to work there. But it’s not like The Fringe Café is the best café in Titirangi, far from it. There’s a good amount of cafes on the Titirangi strip so I don’t know why this is always my go to place. It’s always busy, which is good and bad, I suppose. The food here is pretty decent but the coffee could be better. I did like the massive bowl they brought my chai latte out in, which I had to explain to a friend was«pretty much milk with herbs in it». I had an eggs bene, and it was pretty nice. The service could be better but I think I always forgive them for it because they are busy, but really they should sort that out.

This place always seems like the focal point of the Titirangi shops to me. Part of that is its location(pretty much in the middle there), part of it is the fact that whenever I see it open it’s always busy. Not unpleasantly so, just always bustling. The time I stopped in it was a quiet part of the afternoon but even so there was a steady stream of customers. The coffee is good, the staff is friendly, it’s all pretty good. My family fate the food although I’ve only had coffee here so I can’t comment firsthand. Probably the best thing this place has going for it is the setting — scenic views on the one side, and the footpath on the other for some casual people-watching. It does get busy round the middle of the day, at least on the weekends, so if you don’t want to contend with crowds perhaps bear that in mind.

The Fringe Café is pretty neat. Located in the middle of Titirangi village it is a frequent hot spot for coffee and cake seekers, mums groups doing the school drop off or casual groups and dates. It offers a variety of cabinet and menu foods and they do some epic cakes to order as well. The coffees are nice and the staff are very friendly. The whole place has a buzzing atmosphere when it’s busy, but is quiet and settled when it isn’t rush times. There is an abundance of seating available like the straw couches near the front, the outside seating and the seating out back overlooking Titirangi, with really impressive views. Competing with the other village cafes this place really tries hard and it pais off, as it is a lovely place to stop into.
