I thought it was just delightful. Each piece is just adorable to look at, and the 3 we tried were all delicious. The only negative was that for all the choices, they had a lot of similar variety. For example, 3 or 4 different mango options, but no lemon or pineapple. Still thought it was great.

What a beautiful and yummy place to stop for a sweet treat! The cakes, cookies, pastries, and mousses were so lovely! We had the mango mousse, chocolate mousse, and an éclair with chocolate. All were light, creamy, and delicately delicious. If you’re in the mood for a little sweet, stop here. You’ll be happy you did :)

Great dessert option for those short on time! In the heart of town so super convenient for those working in the CBD. My favourite is the cookies and cream log or the chocolate moose gâteau but they also do great little macaroons. Options come in large, small and log form with single serve treats too. Quite pricey so I save it until when I’m trying to impress or have peeved someone off and the way to their heart is through sugar

After an early Christmas morning, I found myself in CBD very much craving a coffee. …Gâteau House for the win. The flat white hit the spot(although a bit foam-heavy for my liking). Apparently, this place is open 365 days a year, good to know. They also have coffee and cake purchase loyalty cards so if you’re a regular, definitely make sure to take advantage!

Oh man this place was the light at the end of the tunnel after a tough day at work. It was one of those fuck-this-shit o’clock type days were I had just had enough. I called my boyfriend while I was still at work and I told him I needed something sweet, a cake or some donuts. He being a smart man knew how much I loved gâteau house and he passed through there and got me a little package. You know the ones with all the different cakes. I got into the car and almost cried when I saw what he had for me. It took all the self control I had in me to chow the cakes when I got home with a cuppa tea. I was delighted and happy, Jah bless The Gâteau House.

You should see my face when I walk into the Gâteau House. It’s a mix between sublime pleasure and panic as I feel my body weaken at the sight of these cakes. I come here for the coffee… but those cute little cake-lings often get the better of me. I never used to drink coffee until 8am Uni classes started and I realised I was no good at that time in the morning without something to help me out. So i decided to try a Mocha from here. And that was it, I became hooked. It was made so beautifully and the coffee taste was perfectly balanced with the creamy chocolatey-ness I love. Since that day long ago I have often rushed in here on my way up the big old Queen. I also love that there’s usually a newspaper at the table, which I can quickly squizz while my hot drink is being made. I then walk out of the Gâteau House feeling happy, energized and slightly more knowledgeable than I was when I walked in. The perfect start to a day!

Thank goodness for the Gâteau House on Queen Street. It’s been getting hundreds of AUT students through their degrees since forever. So much so that in times of desperate need our Uni tutor would stop the class and say ‘ok, you’ve got five minutes to go get a coffee’ and we’d all race down to the Gâteau House as fast as possible. We’d all then be in a way better state to complete the class. Unfortunately my favourite barista, Joe, no longer works there. He knew everyone’s names, what they studied and what coffee they wanted. He’d often chuck in a free coffee for us poor students every now and again. I love that he put the effort in to get to know us all and it made me want to go there every morning to support him. I have been there since Joe has left and the other staff are just as friendly and make just as good coffee. Their cakes are pretty darn good too. I could literally eat a whole baked cheesecake by myself but my thighs won’t let me.
