I really I don’t think there is much of anything to complain about when it comes to the Sebel, except for three things… 1. They charge you $ 19 for a plug converter, even if you leave it in the room… It’s considered a «mini bar purchase” — so you might as well take it or bring your own outlet converter when you come! Good thing I DIDNTOPEN the second one! 2. They charge for WiFi usage. A stupid complaint, yes, but since I’m from out of the country, I rely on WiFi to connect with family, friends and work from back home(again, I should enjoy vacation 100000% but who wants to be overwhelmed hard core upon return? Not me!) & for GPS. They give you 30 min or 100 mb free usage in the Lobby but in your room they have an option of 200 mb or 2 hours of wifi for $ 9.90 or 1000 mb or 24 hours of usage for $ 19.90. The second option is definitely the better one, but still, on top of the price of the hotel, it’s a bit much… 3. While there is a fantastic gym across the street, Tepid Baths(yes I work out before I sight-see)… It’s not complimentary to hotel guests, it’s simply offered at a discounted rate of $ 8. Not the worst thing in the world but for someone like me who goes to the gym DAILY, it too adds up! The pool is complimentary I believe though. Other than those three, now that I look at them, DIVA complaints(ha ha ha) the Sebel is a wonderful hotel with very nice staff. I would stay there again if there were no other hotels with the three complaints above available. PS: I slept like a rock every night, either because the beds are extremely comfortable or because I was extremely jet-Lagged! ;)

I thought the Sebel was great. Good sized room, laundry facilities in the room, little kitchenette, comfortable bed. Everything was neat, clean, just a great overall experience. Great location. Go out the back door and you’re right in the Viaduct area. I was catching a research vessel and we couldn’t board until later that evening, but they let us keep our luggage there. I don’t like doing that sometimes, but I felt safe doing it there. I also like that they put it in a separate locked room whereas most places just leave it behind the front counter. Everyone at the counter was friendly, polite, and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. We arrived late evening. The doors to the lobby were locked and we had to be buzzed in. Their were about 6 stairs leading up to the doors and there was no one to help us with our luggage. The person on duty at the desk was cool and indifferent, never cracking a smile or the least bit friendly. I believe that the hotel information said there was free internet in the lobby. When we asked about it we were told that it was in the restaurant or pub next door. Our room was on a lower floor and had a view of a parking garage. It did have a washer and dryer which was convenient. The location was nice but the restaurants within walking distance were very pricey($ 52 for breakfast for 2). I would look for other accomodations if I ever go back to Auckland.

I’ve only been here once, for a hen’s night, which it should be noted, are apparently strictly outlawed and led to us being kicked out and ending up at someone’s flat. I understand why — who wants to have to clean up the remains of all those toilet paper dresses? In the few hours before the staff cottoned onto what was going on, one of their two bedroom places was a perfectly good venue. We were on an upper level looking out towards the viaduct, and we made friends with some young men who lived in an apartment next door(although they possibly were more interested in our cocktails than our sparkling personalities). The suite was decent sized, and the balcony was a great addition. It would be a good place to stay with a family or group of friends visiting Auckland. Just don’t try to have a gathering there.

We ended up here with yet another cheap GrabOne voucher and while it’s not top end, it’s in a really great location situated right in the corner of the Viaduct. We got a suite which was basic but spacious enough for our one night stay. We ordered a room service cheese platter to go with our early evening wine and the following morning, Blueberry Pancakes for breakfast. All were yummy if not amazing. One thing I will say is that the bed and the pillows here were a bit rough — I’m sure it’s a preference thing but these pillows were hiiiiiiiiiigh and the bed just felt… crappy. Otherwise though this would be the perfect place to recommend to Auckland visitors who want to be close to the action. It’s definitely not quiet but if you’re ok with that then The Sebel Suites ticks all the boxes.

I will qualify my review by saying I stayed at The Sebel eight years ago so this might not be the most up-to-date information. I found the location was excellent though and the size of rooms was great, and I’m sure that hasn’t changed. They are apartments rather than rooms so that is an added bonus. They manage 24hr room service but I think that is sourced from a nearby restaurant. Otherwise there is not a restaurant inside the hotel but about 40 on your doorstep which makes up for it. Also no pool/gym but Olympic Pools is literally across the road. I had no sea view which was a disappointment but also no noise from the viaduct bars on the street side of the hotel, can’t be sure whether the viaduct side is as lucky.
