I mean… its ok.
Not really sure why most of the Unilocal reviewers are going gaga over this place.
Yes, the venue if you sit on the «outside» is one of the nicest covered halls of Vienna, very Brussels like, but you have to be tolerant for smokers sitting next to you who are not worried when smoke bombs invade your table via theirs. Inside is not so special. The gin tonics prices are in the double digit range, there is escargot and other French options but honestly I would not say its the best I have had. Not the worst, but the mussels needed better wine for marinade (would almost seem ours were cooked in water), more herbs, basically more everything, it was some of the least tasty mussels I have ever had in my life.
While the service is decent, all of the staff except one that I ever spoke to does not speak French. For a place that seems to advertise themselves as the true French sanctuary of Vienna, this raises some questions.
Moreover the prices for the «French» items in their market section of the front is highway robbery. Think twice the price for crème de casis and pastis, both of same quality one can find in Spar. At least sell to me something for twice the price only if I cannot easily find it elsewhere here, otherwise its just insulting.
Overall: meh.

Beaulieu ist wörtlich ein guter Platz. Im weiteren Sinn, wenn Paris nicht Paris wäre sondern Wien, wäre es ein Beisl. Bistrot ist ja nichts anderes, wobei die Franzosen vom Essen, Geniessen und dem guten Tropfen sehr viel verstehen. Und das haben die Besitzer des Beaulieu sehr schön und gut umgesetzt. Die Speisen sind klein aber fein, vor allem die Nachspeisen finde ich gut gelungen. Mehrere Sorten Pastis und eine gute Wein-​Auswahl machen diesen Platz zu einem schönen, guten Ort. Beaulieu eben. à bientôt!

Had a lovely dinner in a party of five here, thanks to recommendations from a Viennese friend and Unilocal.My dining companions had all been in Wien for at least one full day prior to our dinner and said this was their best meal do far on the trip. The sardine appetizer and the lamb, which were my orders, were absolutely delicious; my friends also heartily enjoyed the mussels mariniere and the croque mademoiselle. This gem is tucked away in the heart of Vienna and I highly recommend it. Our waiter was very nice and the staff were helpful given that we were a larger than average group.

Was taken here by a local while visiting Vienna. It was amazing. The lamb dish was incredible. The place is tucked away in a great spot.

Tolle Atmosphäre, leckeres Essen und nette Bedienung. Dieser französische Edelstein ist ein Besuch wert. Wir hatten das Menü und waren mit allem rund um zufrieden.
Ich hatte eine Rosen Limonade, eines von den Dingen, die ich an Restaurants sehr wert schätze: einzigartige Dinge, die ich mal ausprobieren kann. Cocktail war auch lecker.
Anschließend haben wir noch im Lebensmittel laden gestöbert, der zwar sehr interessant aber doch recht klein war.
Punkteabzug gab es weil wir länger auf unsere Nachspeise warten mussten, und man sich doch zumindest ein oder zwei Kellnerinnen mehr wünscht. Karte fehlten auch die allergenen Hinweise. Ansonsten einwandfrei. Besuchen das kleine Frankreich bald wieder.

This afternoon I decided to take my husband out for an early birthday lunch in the fancy French bistro Beaulieu, located in the elegant Ferstel Passage. We took the U3 metro to Herrengasse, and walked passed Café Central to arrive at Ferstel Passage — and in there is Beaulieu café. As you walk in you can see displays of French wines, drinks, snacks and jams to purchase. But in front of you is a display of french baguette sandwiches, cheeses, meats, and desserts, all of which look so freakin’ delicious to me. Beaulieu is very popular and busy café, so come and see if you can fit yourself in here.
The tables on the ground floor are only small enough for two people, but upstairs there are bigger tables for groups. The floors underneath are tiled with geometrically shaped flowers, the walls are decorated in simple fashion, and upstairs vintage bird cages hang from the ceiling.
For drinks I wanted to try something different and unusual so I ordered their warm Orange-​Lavender lemonade. I know lavender is a popular herb in France, so why not give it a try? The drink arrived in a large teapot for me to enjoy several servings of and tasted absolutely delicious!
For lunch my husband ordered their quiche and I their Salade Chevre Chaud, a salad with greens and baby spinach, baked goat cheese with honey and thyme, sun dried tomatoes and three pieces of crunchy baguette. It was so good and for it’s French portion size (a.k.a. small) I could have eaten another one, but I guess that allowed me room to fit in dessert!
Beaulieu’s Tarte Ganache was heavenly with a buttery crust, thick chocolate and raspberry filling garnished with a raspberry, candy piece and a tiny piece of gold (yes, you read that right, GOLD).
So I will definitely be back. Maybe I will stop by for their Sunday brunch… oh, and every Monday they display their ever-​changing lunch menu on their website and Facebook.

Wahrhaftig ein süsses kleines Café im 1. Wenn wir schon nicht nach Frankreich kommen, kommt Frankreich eben zu uns. Tischreservierungen sind zu empfehlen, denn der Platz ist schnell voll.
Die Karte war nicht so ganz logisch aufgebaut, was das Durchschauen etwas schwieriger machte. Aber das ist nur eine Anmerkung und kein Problem.
Ich habe mir zu meinem Sandwich mit Olivenpastete ein Cidre (weiss) gegönnt und mit beidem war ich sehr zufrieden. Das Sandwich war relativ gross so dass ich danach wirklich sehr satt war.
Der Service war schnell und aufmerksam.
Ich bin sehr froh, dass meine Freundin dieses Bistro heute gewählt hat und ich das Beaulieu kennengelernt habe.

Café makes good impression at the entrance, one expects a nice food and service. However this was not quite the case for us.
The food wasn’t to the expected extend. The soup for my friend was served overheated, the way it was absolutely impossible even to try it. On our complaint to the waiter we received unfriendly comment that the warmer the soup the better it is … rather strange statement.
I ordered bread with warm sardines and after a mix plate of various french cheese and meat… all was ok. But not more than ok…
Probably we had a bad luck with this café, but definitely no intention to try it again. Do not recommend!

A Little piece of Paris in Vienna. If you love good wine, mussels, cheese and oysters this in the place. There is also a small deli for take away quiche, wine and cheese.

Savoir vivre. Hiermit ist schon alles gesagt.
Ist halt ein Bistro, somit der knappe Platz noch gerade gerechtfertigt.
Preise sind angemessen.
Es spricht für Wien, wenn man was sehr gutes französisches findet!

Sehr nette Einrichtung: wunderbare Baguettes, ganz guter Kaffee, schönes Ambiente, eigentlich ganz nette Bedienung … — Die Auswahl in der Greißlerei ist enorm und gar zu verlockend. Einziges Manko ist, dass es angesichts der Sitzgelegenheiten nicht so super bequem ist, aber das ist dann schon das einzige.

Frankreich-​Urlaub reloaded. So stell ich mir die Provence vor mitten in Wien. Das wunderschöné Palais Ferstl beherbergt dieses Juwel des französischen Savoir-​vivre. Im Gewlöbe des Innenhofs eröffnet sich die Ladenfront des entzückenden Beaulieu — Name ist hier einfach Programm. Zunächst fällt einem sofort der Bistrocharakter auf. Der Laden könnte genauso mitten in Paris stehen. Zudem werden Weine, Käse und sicherlich allerlei Köstlichkeiten in bunten, hübschen Gläsern verkauft.
Zum Glück hatte meine Begleitung an diesem heißen Sommertag im kleinen, aber feinen Gastgarten des Lokals reserviert. Da stehen dann lauter bunte Bistrotische im teils schattigen Innenhof des Palais. Woran man verlässlich erkennen kann, dass es etwas nobler zugeht, es gibt Beistelltischen und die finde ich super praktisch — vor allem, wenn man ordentlich bestellt. Wir hatten allerdings «nur» einen Salad. Der war ein Traum und für die Location auch nicht allzu teuer. Mittags gibt’s immer gute Angebote. Da übersteigt der Preis des Ambientes, dann auch nicht die Preis-​Leistung der Speisen. Wobei es hier an der Qualität nichts zu bemängelt gibt. Für einen romantischen Ausflug zwischendurch sicherlich ein überaus geeigneter Ort!
Mich wird es hier schon alleine wegen dem französischen Flair immer wieder hinziehen.

so this place can seem like a complete tourist trap but once seated inside, there’s regulars that come in for coffee and sweets. the food is very homemade, simple dishes, which is exactly what we were looking for. Unilocal really came through on this one. i was getting a bit tired of all the viennese food!

Ein authentisches französisches Bistrot inklusive Épicerie (Verkauf von Delikatessen) mitten in Wien. Keine Werbung oder Schild lassen in irgendeiner Weise erahnen, dass in der Ferstel Passage so ein Juwel zu finden ist.
Der erste Besuch war so toll, dass ich nur eine Woche später wieder da war. Da das Beaulieu sehr klein und extrem gut besucht ist, sollte man einen der wenigen Tische in Vorhinein reservieren.
Bei beiden Besuchen haben mich die Speisen und der Service vollends überzeugt. Das Baguette war genauso gut wie das, was ich in Paris hatte. Auch meine erste Erfahrung mit Bouillabaisse — einer französischen Fischsuppe — war ein kulinarisches Erlebnis. Zum Sonntag gibt es zudem ein extra Brunchmenü, mit Galettes, Crêpes, Austern und Ganztagesfrühstück. Dazu gibt es eine Auswahl an Tartlettes und anderen französischen Gebäckspezialitäten, Käse, Wurst, Wein, Tee, Champagner, Crémant und was das französische Foodie Herz sonst noch begehrt (sowohl zum vor Ort essen/​trinken oder kaufen).
Wer französisches Essen mag ist im Beaulieu definitivan der richtigen Adresse.

We stumbled upon this little gem just walking around late at night. It was still open as everything else around it was closing up for the night and it was packed with locals. We found a table outside. The friendly waitress recommended the lemon tart so that’s what we had. It was a good choice; moist, not too sweet, and just the right amount of lemony taste for me. We also had coffee and the house wine with it. The price was average for the city. Excellent customer service, cozy atmosphere, good selection of food and wine, nice location in an old palace. I would go back here.

Durch Zufall gefunden, in einer kleine Passage. Man fûhlt sich sofort wie in Paris. Sehr gut gegessen und gleich einige Köstlichkeiten aus der Patisserie mitgenommen.

What i wonderful little French café/​restaurant, i can not believe i walked past this place so many times and never stopped here before.
The service is outstanding.
The food is incredible.
The wine selection is top notch.
Simply put this is a wonderful little place to visit, not only is it very nice to be in this environment, but everything about it is great, including the price which was cheaper than i expected for the service you get, which is outstanding as i already wrote.
They have also a very wide range of French products, which all seem to be at the highest quality.
In short YOU MUST GO HERE at least once i your life.
I will certainly be returing time and time again.

I lived in Vienna for over 3 years and this was hands down my favorite restaurant in Vienna, and one of my favorites of all time. Every single course I have ever had has been amazing and is well worth its price.
This is food of the same quality that you would get at a michelin rated restaurant but without the pretentious garbage and exorbitant prices. Simple ingredients yet prepared exceptionally well, every single time. They change the menu once every couple of months which made me upset, but whatever they changed somehow managed to be even better than what they had before. They do lamb exceptionally well here, so I would always suggest getting the lamb if they have it. All of the food is noticeably fresh, extremely well cooked and tasty because it’s perfectly seasoned with quality ingredients– not because it’s drenched in fat. I have always either gotten the salads, appetizers, or main courses. If you are coming here once, get a main course. Really, the most expensive thing you can get is like 30 euros, and it is worth every single penny. Don’t come here to be cheap, come here to actually enjoy exceptionally well made food. While the lunch menu is always delicious, I feel like everyone who is reviewing and saying to come here only for the lunch menu because it’s cheaper has probably never had those main courses. The lunch menu is delicious, the dinner is extraordinary. If you are coming here only once, get the Saint Honore for dessert. You will not regret it. I’ve had their other desserts, but I am not partial to their macaroons, and am always wishing I got the saint honore instead. It is just everything a dessert should be.
The Ambience is very french. For this reason, if you are looking for a crazy night out with your bros, I don’t really think this would be the place. It’s just a nice quiet quaint place that feels as authentic french as it gets. It’s in the freyung passage, which is just by itself absolutely gorgeous. Plus it has a little shop with wines and cheeses and other yummy things to bring home which just makes it even cuter. You will absolutely never feel rushed here. I have stayed here for 4 hours eating and relaxing and never felt like I was pressured to leave, even when they have been crazy busy. Which they are most nights (make reservations!).
The service is very good, but laid back. They will not really come up to you unless signaled when you are eating and after they have taken your plate away. I kind of like it this way, but some people want their waiters asking them once every 5 minutes if they would like something else. I like to eat in peace. After going there maybe a little tiny bit too often, most of the waiters knew me and were exceptionally nice to me. It got the point where they remembered what wines I had the last time that I was there, what I ordered regularly, etc. Also this is one of the few Viennese restaurants where they do not care what language you speak to them in. They never tried to respond to me in German if I spoke to them in English (which sounds ridiculous, but happens regularly in Vienna because of their absolutely terrible customer service standards) and they never were obviously annoyed that I was not speaking to them in German (again, happens all the time in Vienna).
I know some people are complaining of the prices but this is where you go to get quality food, not cheap food. You absolutely get what you pay for here, and again, I do not think that any of their food is overpriced. If anything, it is underpriced. I’ve seen (and tasted) some of the same types of food (perfectly cooked lamb, mouth watering seared scallops) at michelin star restaurants, and this is right on par with them. But you pay 25 euros instead of 50. And when you do get an entrée like that, that is all you need, that one entrée to be full. I have never been able to get both an appetizer and a main course here. I stuff the saint honore in my belly after the main course because I would rather be in a food coma for the next 4 hours then not have the saint honore. Have I mentioned how good the saint honore is?
Really this is the closest I have gotten to restaurant bliss. I can do nothing but highly recommend it.

Authentisch bis ins Detail. Das Essen ist jedesmal hervorragend, die Bedienung äußerst freundlich, die Karte wechselt regelmäßig und birgt immer frische Ideen. Frühstück, Lunch und Dinner empfehlenswert.

Ein kleines authentisches französisches Bistro mitten im ersten Bezirk. Sehr ruhig in einer Passage gelegen und im Sommer mit einem schönen Gastgarten im Innenhof. Sehr zu empfehlen, aber nicht gerade billig, sind die Limonaden. Die Granatapfel Limo ist der Hammer.

Been here twice! Nice staff! To go treats are cheaper than eating them there! Lemon was a little too lemony. The strawberry tart was great but tiny. The food is simple yet tasty. Classic French salad was okay. not worth 11 euros. But go for the lunch combos and you will have a better outcome!

Ein kleiner, aber feiner Fluchtort in der Innenstadt. Der pittoreske Franzose erfreut Auge und Gaumen mit — wer’s glaubt — feinster französischer Küche: Austern, Foie Gras, Salate, Baguettes, Quiches, Tartes und alles, was das Herz sonst noch begehrt.
Ein Laden, in dem wirklich nicht viel schief gehen kann.
Sterneabzug gibt’s für den Wein. Entweder bin ich schon so Österreich-​verseucht oder die Weine sind wirklich nicht die kulinarische Erfüllung, mir hat auf alle Fälle keiner so richtig gepasst.
Lobende Worte noch für die bemühte Kellnerschaft. Bei den Herren fühlt man sich wahrlich gut aufgehoben.

Wohlfühlfaktor 1+! Frühstücken oder den Tag ausklingen lassen in französischem Ambiente mit Yves Montand… schööön. Der Service ist ausgezeichnet, das Essen ebenso. Für jeden, der mal ‘was Anderes’ genießen möchte

Beaulieu has a lovely location in a passageway. It has good ambience inside and outside (although the courtyard was a bit deserted, but sitting «outside» within the passageway was pleasant). The wines by the glass seemed to be some high quality wines — we tried the syrah and the sancerre and weren’t disappointed. We had the ratatouille, which was perfectly seasoned, and the baguette beaulieu — with olive tapenage, goat cheese, and pickled tomatoes — it was a little heavy on the goat cheese and light on everything else. Contrary to other reviewers, I found the service to be friendly and fairly punctual. All in all, it was a good experience.

Bei meinen bisherigen Besuchen im Beaulieu wurde ich nicht enttäuscht, sowohl Coq au vin als Tagesteller zu Mittag, aber auch Muscheln und Riz Safrane mit Meeresfrüchten am Abend schmeckten wunderbar. Mit dem Servicepersonal hatte ich keine schlechte Erfahrungen, auch meine unausgeprägten Französischkenntnisse wurden mit Fassung getragen :) Am Ambiente könnte noch ein wenig geschraubt werden, die Einrichtung ist hübsch, allerdings finde ich die grellweiße Ausleuchtung etwas ungemütlich, um nicht zu sagen, frostig. Ein paar Tische stehen auch in der Passage, eine effiziente Idee, um noch mehr Hungrige unterzubringen, aber so richtig warm werde ich mit der Location nicht — ein bisschen wie ein Nobeleinkaufzentrum-​Bistro. gemütlich ist das nicht.

Kurztrip nach Frankreich gefällig? Ab ins Beaulieu! Das ist nämlich (nomen est omen) ein wirklich schöner Ort.
Viele französische Spezialitäten — nectar de Cassis genauso wie Käse oder Tee — reihen sich gleich beim Hineingehen aneinander — ich bin immer so hoffnungslos versucht, mit eine Kleinigkeit hier und eine Spezialität dort mitzunehmen, hachja.
Zum Essen gibt es eine der chaotisch-​überfülltesten (oder einfach seltsam layoutierten) Karten Wiens — die dafür aber voll mit leckeren Sachen ist. Tisanes, heiße Limonaden (ich kann Lavendel-​Zitrone nur empfehlen!), Wein und französische Köstlichkeiten wie ganz klassische Quiche Lorraine oder diverse Salate.
Außerdem gibt es noch ein Tagesmenu (ich hab mich ans Kartoffelgratin gewagt und es nicht bereut) und leckeren gemischten Salat dazu, wo das Dressing wirklich toll war!
Wer sich nicht an den Salat hält, der wird hier vermutlich nicht unbedingt abnehmen, denn wer schon mal französisch gekocht hat, der weiß: Butter muss überall hinein. Aber glaub mir, es zahlt sich aus!
Ich würde trotz der Sitzplätze oben und unten auf jeden Fall empfehlen zu reservieren!

dieses lokal /​bistro /​feinkostshop, ist für mich sehr schwer zu beurteilen. Ich glaub entweder man mag es oder nicht. Ausser Frage steht die Qualität des Essens. Kreativ /​französisch mit qualitativ hochwertigen Zutaten.
Persönlich habe ich mich sehr auf eine großartige franz. Zwiebelsuppe gefreut. Hier wurde ich leider ziemlich enttäuscht. Die Suppe war stark überwürzt, viel zu viel Pfeffer, zuviel Salz und zusätzlich wird als Käse noch ein sehr intensiver Roquefort für die Suppe gereicht, der zwar an und für sich sehr gut ist, allerdings das endgültige Ende jedes Geschmackssinns auf dem Gaumen bedeutet. 4,50 € hat es gekostet. Zu guter letzt waren meine Kollegen und ich der Meinung, daß die Suppe wohl eher einem Würfel denn einem Rind entsprungen ist. Leider enttäuschend.
Als Zwischengericht haben wir die Wiener Weinbergschnecken in Rotwein Trüffel Sauce genommen. Die Sauce ausgezeichnet. Die Schnecken… ja. Schnecken… relativ Geschmacksneutral. Ich muss aber auch zugeben, daß ich nicht jeden Tag Schnecken esse und somit die Qualität nicht wirklich beurteilen kann. Geschmeckt hat es definitiv.
Hauptspeisen:
Es gibt jeden Tag ein Mittagsmenü das wahlweise aus 1 – 3 Gängen besteht. 8,50, 10,50 und 13,50 zahlt man hierfür. Diesmal hatten wir uns jedoch für unterschiedliche Salatvariationen und Sardinen Brot entschieden. Mein Salat” Salade au Roquefort — Blattsalat, Roquefort, Rotweinbirne & Walnüsse für 12,80 € war wunderbar. Preisgestaltung 12,80 ist allerdings sportlich. Ich glaube das teilt sich ca so: 8 € für den Salat + 4,80 € für den «hip» «stylo» Faktor im Beaulieu.
Das TARTINE BRETONNE 12,80 € Knuspriges Bauernbrot mit warmen Sardinen in brauner Fassbutter, Paprikagemüse & Kräutern war lecker und wirklich etwas Besonderes gerade auf Grund der Einfachheit des Gerichts und der großartigen Zutaten.
Würde ich wieder kommen?
schwer zu sagen. Die gesamte Speisekarte klingt höchst interessant und ich würde gerne alles davon ausprobieren. Die Frage ist nur ob ich es mir leisten würde wollen… Ich werde in den nächsten Wochen öfters den Lunch ausprobieren — dieser scheint mir vom Preis /​Leistungsverhältnis absolut in Ordnung zu sein — um mir so ein Bild von den anderen Speisen zu machen um dann zu entscheiden ob ich die 25 € für Rosa gebratene Entenbrust
mit Entenlebercrème & Erdäpfelgratin dort ausgeben möchte.

Nice French Bistro atmosphere. Great food in informal setting. Ambitious staff. Reasonable prices.

what a lovely little place! gotta love the fact that it really does feel very french and you can buy food and little knick knacks to take home. so far I’ve only been there once for breakfast, but the savoury croissant and hot chocolate was really very very good. planning on going back for a little romantic dinner soon ;)

What a cute little bistro! I love sitting outside and people watching! Their food is also very tasty and the waiter was über friendly. I had the french onion soup and spinach quiche, which was plenty of food. It is pretty popular during lunch time.

am anfangs war das service wirklich schlecht aber jetzt ist es wirklich super. die bedienung ist flott und das essen ist wirklich lecker. ob mittags, abend oder zum frühstück ich mag dieses lokal einfach.

Im Palais Ferstel tut sich was. Neben Schokov und einer Vulcanothek (aus dem Vulkanlandbezirk? ;-) hat das französische Bistro Beaulieu eröffnet. Das Lokal ist landestypisch «putzig und pitoresk» eingerichtet wobei der obere Bereich mehr an ein Bistro erinnert, welches man am Abend frequentiert. Dazu erklingen französische Chansons a la Edit Piaf (Mopedrock passen da eher ins verrauchte Le Troquet im Neubau).
Sehr empfehlenswert sind die verschiedenen Süssspeisen wie Tarte au citron ou au chocolat. Allerdings kann man hier auch wunderbar frühstücken und zu französischem Baguette eine herrliche Käseplatte genießen. Bei unseren letzten Besuch gab es im Sinne des Bistros verschiedene Fische im Angebot (nicht getestet).
Der Franzosenboom hat mit diesen Lokal in Wien einen wahren Höhepunkt erreicht. Hingehen– ausprobieren!

Das Lokal ist zauberhaft. Genau so stellt man sich ein französisches Lokal vor. An der grellen Beleuchtung im Erdgeschoß könnte man noch arbeiten. Auch das Essen ist gut. Leider ist der Service sehr unprofessionell überhebliche Bedienung, extrem lange Wartezeit, konsequent Charme frei. Was sehr schade ist, weil man vermutlich kein zweites Mal hingehen wird. Mir tut das sehr leid, denn Wien hätte ein charmantes, französisches Lokal brauchen können.

Der Falter singt Lobeshymnen, das FrühstückerInnen Blog findet das Beaulieu bezaubernd. Für mich ein klarer Fall, diese Lokalität muss besucht werden. Das Beaulieu liegt in der Ferstel Passage und wird als Kombination zwischen Bistro und französischem Feinkostgeschäft betrieben. Die Einrichtung ist so gestaltet wie sich ein österreichisches Provinzkind (=ich) ein französisches Bistro vorstellen würde. Detailfotos sind bei Hr. Google zu finden. Die Speisekarte verspricht eine große Anzahl an Wein, Champagner (yeah!), sowie kalten und warmen Speisen und Frisches von der Patisserie. Um es kurz machen: Die Qualität von Frühstück und Kaffee war okay, die Preise ebenso, nur leider ist das Service eine absolute Katastrophe. Unfreundliche Begrüßung, 30(!) Minuten Wartezeit für die erste Bestellung, arrogante und herablassende Behandlung des Gastes. Erst nach dem Eintreffen der Eigentümerin hat sich die Betreuung graduell verbessert. Trotzdem werde ich wohl dem Beaulieu einen zweiten Besuch abstatten, soviele Lokalitäten mit ähnlich innovativem Angebot sind in Wien nicht zu finden.
Aber: Be warned!
