We stumbled upon Restaurant Linde while strolling in Basel, and sat in the back patio area. The food and service was great. Everyone spoke very good English and were quite fun and friendly. We had their own label beer, green salads with delicious homemade dressing, dark beer goulash, and breaded chicken with noodles, both yummy. Finish your meal with either vodka or tequila sorbet.

they offer great beer from the brewery next door and they have very good beer-specialities like the beer-fondue! Food: my girlfriend and i ordered the beer fondue. it wasnt a big portion but it was really one of the best fondues i had! the cool thing is instead of bread(which is sometimes dry) they gave us warm bretzels. really good! wish i could eat fondue only with bretzels! Service: they were nice. sometimes not very attentive but totally ok. Atmosphere: its not a special atmosphere. but the good thing is that you can even sit outside in a little alley if its nice weather. even at high temperatures it wont be too hot there. additionally in the inside the have a «zapfhahne» on a table where you can take infinite beer on self-service. and in the end they give you the bill of all the beer summed up, pretty cool! All together more likely a 3-stars place. but because of that awesome fondue and the delicious beer they offer i give it 4 stars!

upgrade from a 3 to a 4 based on the amazing, friendly service and price(~35 francs/person) compared to other restaurants in Basel. Had the«local» salad(combination of red leaf cabbage, beets, shaved carrots and sliced cucumbers), which was a solid starter, along with the house specialty Beer Fondue(which was great and served with a large pretzel) and some random sausage dish. All were pretty good, though none blew me away. The salad is pretty necessary unless you are okay with eating very heavy, salty meals(bread/cheese/“spam“like meats), which is very typical of Switzerland. Still a must visit spot in Basel with a great local vibe and feel!

We love this place and come here often when in Basel(which is fairly often as Sweetie works for Roche). The pork steak with gorgonzola sauce is our favorite. We usually start things off with a beer /cheese fondue(a serving for one easily feeds two) and one of their excellent beers.

Ate here in Nov2010 after a 3-hr train ride from Paris. I was so famished and met some coworkers there for dinner. I’ve not had much cheese fondue ever — had it maybe once a year. If you like beer cheese fondue, this place is for you. I ate lots of pretzel that night, and maybe a spoonful of the melted cheese. The place is very cozy and has the feel of being a neighborhood bar. What I like the best. finding this place on a rainy Basel night. It’s in a kinda of a dark alleyway close by the river… that with the rain, my umbrella, my trench coat — it feels like I was tossed in the olden european era. Love that experience! I’d like to try this again maybe when I’m not too tired from jet lag or train ride – and next time, maybe during the summer.

Good service! The beer cheese fondue(Ueli-bierfondue) is yummy. Menu consists of Swiss-German fare. Good food in general. They serve beer from the Ueli brewery, located next door. There is a table with a beer tap, which you can ask to be seated at — you pay according to tap meter. During the warmer months there is backyard seating area. Good place to drink beer & get comfort food — cozy in the winter months.
