The food was quite good. Better than you find in most Geneva Chinese restaurants. And the price was reasonable, something you almost never find in a Geneva restaurant. Ate outside in this quaint red light neighborhood. Things that were supposed to be crispy were. The dim sum as excellent. And the sauces on the main dishes were well spiced and tasty. You could even tell the difference between them. So often it is hard. I often stay on a hotel not far from here for weeks on end. I will be back to this little place. And they do take out, a feature I intend to use next time I hold up in my hotel room for the weekend with a writing chore.

General purpose Chinese food at Genevan prices. Hungky is just half a block from the train station and easy to find. It’s nested in what appears to be a restaurant district. The menu is neither focused nor remarkable, at once touching on northern hearty, western spicy and Cantonese BBQ. Large tables inside means Hungky accommodates large communal dining parties.

This restaurant was advertised to me as very authentic and good Chinese food. While it wasn’t bad, it was fairly standard for the most part, so I can only assume that Chinese cuisine is not Geneva’s forte. We swung over during our lunch break, and ordered the steam bok chai, chicken with szechuan sauce, beef with black bean, a nd tofu in soy sauce – a pretty good sampling of their cuisine. The beef was my favorite, with the tofu coming in a close second. The black bean on the beef was flavorful but not too salty or overbearing, and my tastebuds almost jumped in pleasant surprise at the first bite. Although that was the extent of any dramatic reaction the food induced, the tofudish was also very good, especially the mushrooms(if only there had been more!). The bok chai was pretty standard but went well with the hot sauce. The chicken was my least favorite, as the meat texture felt a bit cheap and the sauce tasted slightly of chemical flavorants. Overall the food was fairly good Chinese fare, and as I understand it, a pretty good price(about CHF13−17 per dish). But it wasn’t amazing or particularly memorable, and I’d probably be willing to spend a little more if it meant slightly more refined cuisine. What I do love about Geneva is that the coffee, even at a random Chinese place, is rich, creamy espresso!
