Probably the most authentic restaurant I’ve had the pleasure to eat at, to me it just doesn’t get any more swiss than this. Alpli is a small alpine hut on top of the Zugerbeg, easily reachable by car from Walchwil, or by a 10 kilometer easy hike up from the Zugerberg train station. I will overstate the obvious, bring cash and wear comfortable shoes, even by car, since there is a small incline(only about 100 metres, don’t be a wimp!) you’ll still have to hike up. You will be rewarded by the friendliest swiss hospitality, clean air and simple food. A plate of cheese of their own production and potato salad are my to-go dishes, but they also offer salads, sausages and a limited amount of warm dishes(there is no electricity), like pork chops. Local beer, wine and a variety of schnapps, with which they make VERY interesting coffees. For dessert, I can wholeheartedly recommend karamel-küpli?(sorry, not sure that’s the right way to spell it) which is a delicious light custard topped with caramel and full whipped cream. Yum-Yum! There is outside seating, weather permitting, sometimes you can see cows or donkeys grazing from your table, hear their bells… after dessert pet a rabbit. It’s so rustic, so buccolic and so beautiful :) In winter, you can seat outside by the fireplace and candles, with some luck traditional music too. Occasionally, Alpli organizes events, I came here once for a rock concert that was awesome. Surely after all that food and all the clean air you decide that big 100 meter hike was worth it.
