Kolkovna

Mediocre restaurant. Was recommended by hotel which often makes me suspicious, especially when they whip out glossy colored brochures. Menu confusing, staff impatient. Settled on the house specialty, leg of goose which was average.

I think the food is good, the beer okay and the staff hardworking and too few of them. I would give a much better recommendation but for one thing:
I was with a large group, out for our Christmas meal. We spent 18,000 — 20,000 Kc but one of our staff does not eat meat or dairy and there was no effort to accommodate her. It would have taken very little effort to alter a dish so that she could have eaten it (one of the pasta meals for example) but this was not possible. Even with phoning beforehand there was very little in the way of suggestion of how they could be flexible.
I am disappointed. I liked the food, and I would go there again. But I don’t think that we should go there again for a staff meal. We usually go there three times a year and at an average of 20,000 that means there will be 60,000 Kc that we won’t be spending there next year. Unlike the tourists, our business is based here and in the long term that is a lot of money.
But I doubt this restaurant is bothered.

Food was standard and alright, nothing special and maybe a bit bland even. We came here since we received a coupon for free beer from our hotel for this restaurant. May have gotten a better meal elsewhere for similar prices, but we were just looking for someplace nearby and convenient.

This place is almost ideal, if you are in the very center, you would like to get away from the crowds, but you have no power to walk any further. I was impressed by the huge outside seating area, which really is hidden from the noise of the street.
What impressed me the most were huge flower pots full of herbs. I have never seen basil that big. Having a little herb pot myself, I was really jealous, because I dont think I will be ever able to grow it so big :)
As the place is really huge, staff has to walk a long way every time to take your order, and they seemed lightly annoyed by us calling them. I did feel a little sorry, so we tried to order as rarely as possible. We were sitting next to the kids corner which seemed nice, so I can imagine stopping by with a friend with kids as well.
Wine was really nice, 75, — for 0,15l which corresponds to the location, but no tap water!

Great location with a nice patio and a huge kids corner for the kids to play. The beer is fresh and tasty. The server seemed overwhelmed, but it was late and nearly empty.

Great typical place from Pragues. Prices are really good. Enjoyed a goulash with a mixed beer: blond and brown beer in the same glass which is really original.

A very nice Czech restaurant with a great choice of typical local dishes for a reasonable price. The food is delicious (although it can be really heavy due to a specific character of local cuisine, and the portions are quite big, too). I totally recommend to try a duck or goose leg with dumplings (you can also change the side dish for a less heavy option). The service is good. What is more, this is one of rare places where they actually have enough space between the tables, so even when it gets full, you can still feel quite comfortable.

Die Einrichtung ist schlicht, aber zweckmäßig. Die Lichtverhältnisse könnten jedoch besser sein, es ist ziemlich duster.
Die Bestellung würde zügig aufgenommen, das Essen war in Ordnung, jedoch für ortsübliche Verhältnisse ziemlich teuer.
Die Bedienung selbst hat uns irgendwann ignoriert, hat auch nach dem 2. Nachfragen keine Veranlassung gesehen, die Karte zu bringen. Die leeren Glaser wurden auch ignoriert. Schade, denn ansonsten war es nett.

For a nice dinner in Prague, Nida K. and I used TripAdvisor to find Kolkovna. I want to put an English review up, so that those looking for a great place know that Kolkovna is worth the walk from Old Town if you’re looking for a traditional Czech meal.
We sat downstairs, which I think is the non-​smoking area. When you walk in and it’s smoky, don’t be alarmed, it’s not everywhere. We sat at a tall table and ordered shots of Becherovka to go with our meal. I also ordered a goulash that reminded me so much of my grandma’s cooking (we are Croatian) that I still remember the memories of it, even six months later.
The staff was very helpful and attentive, and the prices at Kolkovna are good. I don’t think it was an inexpensive meal, but for our night out, it was a really good option. Definitely worth all the excitement on TripAdvisor, and the new excitement I have too!
