Just got off the AmTrak Auto Train to head to the Steven F Udvar Hazy Center Smithsonian and wanted more than just fast food which is all that is offered at museum itself! Found this little family-run business en route to museum and we’re happy to share. We ate so fast, forgot to take food pics! Philly Cheese Steak was perfect, kids Chicken Fingers was good. Buffalo Wings were amazing. Everything was served piping hot and fresh and staff were attentive and engaging. Perfect stop!

I’ve been to George’s a couple of times and found myself pleasantly satisfied. The food and its flavor always comes out hot and appetizing. The small staff is friendly and they work hard in keeping the place clean and making sure their diners are happy. The menu is fairly basic but its quality, as I mentioned earlier, is often satisfying. I enjoy their popular steak n’cheese combo that comes with crispy fries and a drink(note: your drink gets only one refill). I’ve also had their jalapeño poppers that are tasty — but a little overpriced. I’ve read other reviews recommending their mac n’cheese so I ordered it my first time I ate at George’s. I didn’t think it was anything special but it was still tasty. I recommend George’s for anyone in the area looking for a casual, quick bite to eat. Get the combos to get the best bang for your buck. George’s isn’t life changing but it’s an inviting eatery that deserves praise.

Enjoyed our meal here. I got the falafel sandwich which are pieces of falafel with tomato, radish? and a taziki sauce. It was wrapped in a pita like wrap. Tasty. My husband got the steak and cheese and it was great and next time I’ll get that. We also got waffle fries which were good. The interior is casual but clean. Good meal for the price.

I’m a long-time culinary professional, and I’m always impressed when excellence shows up EVERYORDER. I’ve been here dozens of times over the past 18 mos, and the way this guy: Cooks Trains Serves Presents Cleans And yes, SMILES, never fails to impress and satisfy. These are good old fashioned American sandwiches(mostly!) served by an old-skool guy who was clearly taught and taught right by his Pops… who by the way ran a killer falafel place in DC for decades. Good stuff.

I’ve eaten a lot of cheesesteak and this is the BEST cheesesteak in the DC area! The bread has a slightly flakey outer layer and soft inside. Meat tastes great and is held together with gooey cheese. I usually get it with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. The fries are awesome too. Gabriel, one of the cooks, is very friendly. I wish there was one closer to me.

Came to George’s on a Friday night. It was relatively quiet no customers there when we came in but as we sat more came and other pick up orders. I have a hankering for steak and cheese every now and then but not many places in Fairfax sell it and if they do its typically missing that greasiness you need in a steak and cheese. You can add a bunch of «fixins» at no extra charge. Order came with fries and a drink. Fries were done right because earlier in the week I had some fries that we definitely underdone. Steak and cheese was flavorful and the right size. Not too big but big enough to satiate. I didn’t realize they had waffle fries and I asked if they had already started the fries(after about 5 mins of sitting) and they said they did. So I didn’t want to inconvenience them and I was like damn I wanted waffle fries. Order came out it was good(as I stated) and then they brought out a little basket of waffle fries and the worker said complements of the boss. Little things like that really make you stand apart and motivates me to support a small business owner. I will come back not out of obligation or some self righteous reasoning. I will come back because I enjoyed the food and because they are nice. The only downside was my wife got a burger that felt a little dry, but I think it was due to the fixins she got. Not enough condiments. Next time she said she will get the steak and cheese like me.

I’m from Philly, and have eaten roughly six million cheesesteaks in my lifetime. George’s is easily the best I’ve had in suburban Virginia. My only complaints, and I’m being picky, are that I’d prefer a seeded roll and hot cherry peppers instead of jalapenos. Oh, and the option for Whiz(yes I know it’s gross but not on a cheesesteak). Fries were excellent. Not a soulless chain. Looking forward to ordering from them again.

I can’t say I’m an expert on what is authentic cheese steak vs. generic. Sure, I’ve had steak in Philly but when people debate the minutiae of what makes a good cheese steak, I just want to eat some. What I can say is that the 7.99 Cheesesteak and Fries combo was better than the generic chains I’ve tried. And importantly it tasted like it was made fresh. I think that is worth the extra dollar or so that it costs over the generic chain equivalent. Getting to choose the toppings is a nice touch. I think I’ll eventually be back to try the wings.

Bored with the same local takeout places so we decided to try something different. We ordered the special of Philly style steak sub with fries. The fries were overcooked, but that helped them stay crisp. The sandwich really needed some help. It came with white American cheese rather than provolone which gave it an artificial taste and unnaturally creamy texture. The meat was bland and had no seasoning. I also ordered a piece of baklava which rated a 3⁄10. Overall, I was not wooed.

As a Philadelphian, I’m pretty crazy about my cheesesteaks and out of all the places I’ve been to, including little family joints, they have the best cheesesteak(in nova), they could do better though, like adding wiz and better bread but it’s decent I enjoyed it, I talked hockey with the owner and watched the flyers game while devouring my steak

First time and last time I am going here. Was highly recommended by a good friend for the food. Took my mom there cause we wanted to eat a good steak and cheese. The food was good but the service was horrible. I was accused of have gotten my own refill when my mom got hers and notice she did not have time to drink it so she gave it to me. As I was leaving I went to get my very first refill but got stop because the owner said that I had gotten my refill already even though it was my mothers and I was still eating. I tried to explain it that it was my moms but he would not hear it. I was very disappointed cause my friend said this is the next best to going to philly. I would not recommend this to go in as a group cause you will be accused of already getting a refill. Take it go I highly recommend that!!!

A most unassuming place tucked in an out-of-the-way strip mall. My call-ahead order was handled proficiently and was ready when I arrived. The fries were not my favorite(I strongly prefer handcut and non-frozen) but the special deal was a good price. The cheesesteak was well made and easy to eat, but I prefer a bread that repels sogginess better. Flavor and texture were good. I would return if in the neighborhood.

I used to come to George’s all the time when I was in high school 5+ years ago for the gyros and just rediscovered how much I love the place recently. The gyros are good and the cheesesteaks are great! I also love the fries so much it’s ridiculous! Highly recommend this spot for a satisfying, delicious meal that will leave you full and happy for hours :)

Came in to pick up food for take out however decided to dine in with the boyfriend. We saw the baklava up at the front and bought two since the reviews said they were delicious. George Jr gave an additional one on the house since it was our first time at the restaurant. He informed us that his mother makes them– you must try! It was flaky and was not overtly sweet. He also told us that the restaurant has been there for almost 9 years and there’s a good reason why they’ve been here for this long! George Jr was super kind, very genuine and was attentive to us. We ordered their garlic bread, mozzarella sticks, Cajun fries, and Cajun Philly cheesesteak. Food was on point! There was a small error where our fries didn’t have Cajun seasoning but George Jr came over and personally seasoned them for us. Over all I was fully satisfied with both the food and service. Final note– we tried to tip George Jr but he wouldn’t take it, but we ended up seeing the tip jar and placed it in there. That’s how real the owners of this establishment are!

About a 1 – 1.5: George’s Steak n’ Things is a family-owned and –operated eatery that seems to have a following of GMU students. The menu offers appetizers, salads, grilled subs, burgers, sandwiches, desserts, kid options, and combo meals. I had heard that this place had one of the best Steak and Cheeses around, so I was quite intrigued! The hubs and I came here for an early dinner, and we ordered the following: Chicken Wings(comes in 10 or 20 pieces in your choice of Buffalo or BBQ sauce; I opted for the Buffalo. The wings were pretty large in size(‘jumbo,’ as they call it) and pretty sauced up); a Steak and Cheese(this was stated to have Porterhouse sliced steak, grilled, and your choice of toppings(I only opted for the grilled onions, cheese, and mayo; I appreciated the crispy bread, but I felt the meat itself was lacking in the basic salt/pepper seasoning department. Since I had a combo for this, this came with a side of french fries(which we opted for the seasoned waffle fries(at a steep upcharge) and a drink(one standard small cup with 1 free refill)); the Beef/Lamb Gyro(I was pretty disappointed with this, as the gyro meat was not shaved but of those pre-cut Steak-umm slices; not a fan of the texture and the taste, so this was pushed off to the side; we had wanted the original combo with the fries, but then was upcharged and was substituted for another set of waffle fries); and, the hubs ordered their Spaghetti & Meatball entrée(this is served with a side of fresh salad, your choice of dressing, and garlic bread). We had actually waited for about 35 minutes for this entrée, assuming that it was either forgotten to be prepared or that the place was extremely backed up. Instead, we were told that the restaurant had made the decision for us to ‘pace’ the items that we had ordered. We like to sample an array on the menu, especially if it’s our first time(and, I know we’re not the only ones who do this set-up either!), so when the restaurant assumes that all parties are alike and are going to finish one complete meal to move on to the next, it is not their right or assumption to make! In addition, if the restaurant chooses to make the call, at least let us know so that we’re not just sitting there! We saw multiple parties being served before us, so that added more to the confusion. I think the initial intention on their ‘pacing’ idea was fine, but I really think that they could have alerted us when we had put the order in — that it was their plan all along that we had to wait. What confused us even more, however, was that we were both shocked and disgusted to see the spaghetti entrée being zapped in the microwave! If it was being ‘paced,’ wouldn’t this entrée be prepared fresh when it was almost time for it to being served? We then were questioning whether or not they were really trying to ‘pace’ the spaghetti entrée all along, or if they had rather forgotten it and had to ‘reheat’ it before it was served to us. Whether it was being cooked in there or being reheated, we found both of those choices to be unacceptable! Either way, we had lost our appetite by then, not happy, and just wanted to leave. To top it off, we had ordered a piece of their famous Baklava, that we also never received with our initial order(again, we were given a ‘pacing’ explanation). It was a really disappointing experience. While we were given a backhanded apology and a partial refund for the untouched spaghetti and the baklava(that I had to really press for), I’m still glad I was able to try this place out — I just know I won’t be back. +makes the decision to ‘pace’ ordered items +preparation and/or reheating of spaghetti in the microwave +pre-cut Steak-umm gyro meat slices: O +make sure you re-check/confirm your orders on the receipt +steep upcharge for seasoned waffle fries

I love discovering hidden little gems close to my home! Thanks to a great review from Gretchen P, I had the opportunity to visit George’s Steak N Things. They are located in the Gold’s Gym strip mall off Ox Road and Burke Center Pkwy. We usually only go there for our auto shop needs and never even noticed this little joint! The owner was wonderful. Although, I am a fried-food fan, I held back from ordering any other food but their famous Steak N Cheese. When the owner took our order he made sure we knew about all the specific condiments available on our Steak n Cheese! I love that these extra condiments are free! I chose grilled onions and mushrooms and the hubby got to select his fave: RAW onions and lettuce and mustard. The sandwiches come with those yummy coated fries, and they are DE-licious! The owner gave me a sample of his mom’s baklava. While waiting for our food, I scarfed that piece right up! It was the BEST baklava I had ever eaten, so full of nuts and just the right amount of butter taste! Wish I had more… We did take-out, and our food was fresh and hot! The sandwich had lots and lots of meat, and the bread was NOT too ‘bread-y’. We ‘sampled’ the box of fries while driving home, and they were SOOO decadent in a good way! The portion is very huge, and the pricing is fantastic($ 7.99) for a large sub with fries. We will definitely be returning to this little hidden gem in Burke!

Damn fine cheesesteak. Mine had bacon. Pretty much ’nuff said right there, but I’ll extrapolate on that, heh. George’s Steak ‘n’ Things is an unassuming-looking spot in a strip mall in the Burke/Fairfax Station area. With signs advocating for George Mason posted around, it’s obviously a popular spot for college kids to grab a bite. They have a bunch of options, from fried chicken to sandwiches, but the real star is their cheesesteaks. So flavorful, with hot beef, melty cheese, crisp bread, and whatever toppings you like, from jalapenos to grilled mushrooms to good ol’ lettuce and tomato. Their fries are also AWESOME — they’re the thick, crisp, beer-battered kind that I could eat ad infinitum. Mmmmm. George’s, this first visit definitely won’t be my last!

Nyom nyom nyom! I have tried a few thinks off the menu so let me start off with the steak n cheese… Great! I love it the portion is big the cheese is gooey and it loaded with everything. The only thing I don’t like are the sweet peppers. But that’s just my tastebuds by hubbz likes them. The bread is delicious and it’s better if you eat it on the spot as opposed to delivery, delivery makes it a little soggy but what can you do. It’s still good! Pair it with the waffle fries and you got an awesome heart attack waiting to happen! The regular fries are good too but how can you pass up waffle fries! The gyro. I was addicted to it when pregnant lol it’s very Americanized the meat seems like it’s frozen precut gyro meat but it’s still good! The tziziki sauce(spelling error) is good.(Store bought) and the pita bread is good too nice soft and chewy! The wings buffalo style were nice and crispy the sauce is not spicy at all but does have a tiny little kick to it. They are nice in size too not the little dinky wings! The hamburger sub was really good as well I didn’t expect much from it but they put a lot of meat and cheese and top it with whatever veggies you want! Delivery service is pretty slow but the driver is really sweet so you can’t get mad at that! Lol All in all I love this place and it’s my go to delivery place!!!

Per all of the positive Unilocal reviews I set out to try George’s steak n things with my family. Initial impressions the exterior isn’t inviting. Once walking in I was impressed with how clean and orderly the small area was. We arrived at 11 am on a Saturday and no other customers were there. We liked this as it left the place to us. The TV was on pretty loud, showcasing tennis and soccer. We went ahead and ordered, I ordered the steak and cheese, another ordered the chicken cheese steak and another the tuna sub along with fries, fries, and mashed potatoes respectively. With all of this plus three drinks the total came to over $ 41 dollars which was a bit shocking. We received our food and the cheese steak was pretty good. I was happy with it however I wasn’t «blown away» and I did not like the fries. They had a weird taste to them and seemed almost hollow. The rest room was stated messy in another review so I snapped a pic, it was okay didn’t put me off or anything. I would certainly give this place 4 stars if the prices weren’t so high. Overall I’d say it’s worth checking out, especially if price isn’t a deciding factor.
