Been coming to this bar for quite some time and have always had a blast. The daily specials are pretty much stamped into my longer-term memory — which is why I was surprised when the staff refused to uphold the daily special on Thursday June 2, 2016. Thursday nights are $ 1.50 Tecate night; this info is posted to their website and upon the menus placed at each table inside the bar. After inquiring with staff members about the sudden change from $ 1.50 to $ 2.00 Tecates, the waitress and bartender replied that the specials were changing and Tecate night was to be scratched from the Thursday night special.(This was after the waitress made 2 trips inside to «figure out» the details of the Thursday night special. A sweet girl, but painfully uninformed about the liquid commodities for sale at her place employment) The difference in .50 cents is insignificant and, really, the money is not the issue here. I prefer to think the bar is actually changing its drink specials and has failed to change every sign in the place, as well as altering their info online, rather than the staff having decided to change the price this one night. I’d be much more disappointed if it turned out that an unsupervised bar staff is trying to over charge regulars in the hopes that they wont notice. This is a fantastic bar, I hope they’re not slipping in the basic-bar-ethics department.

The only place in midtown without a line on a Saturaday. Its a great little bar with good drinks, good staff, and good vibe. Under rated for sure. The inly con, not enough TV’s. I give this place a boo with two o’s. Not bad.

This is my safe haven in all the Midtown craziness. People shouldn’t overlook this place just because it isn’t the«trendiest» place. The service is awesome, the prices are right, and the drinks are good. What else do you want? If I’m in Midtown, I inevitably make it to Dog House. Either because the other bars in Midtown are packed or just crap bars, sometime they’re both. Sometimes I just go straight here because it’s a really good bar. It’s always calm and even when it’s busy, it doesn’t feel like it’s busy. IT has lots of seating and all of the other bar patrons are just there for a good time and not to bro-down. If you are hungry you can get one of their pizzas, but they also let you bring in food from the Chinese place next door. Check this place out. Like right now!

Loved coming here for Rockets games during 2014 – 2015 season. Came to watch beginning of 2015 – 2016 season and they refused to put the sound on. Rockets are God. Rockets drip that sawce. How about some home town loyalty?

I came here on a busy Saturday night and was waited on by Sarah. She was incredibly busy but superbly attentive to mine and my friends requests. She and I discussed how patrons were evaluated for intoxication and the signs she had been trained to consider in providing beverages to the good folk of Houston. As a up and coming professional in our great city, I feel safe knowing that bartenders and support staff like Sarah at the Doghouse are concerned with their clients’ well being and are supportive, but safe and considerate, of a good time.

In my early 20s I wouldn’t have given this place the time of day. However, now that I’m in my upper 20s, I appreciate the calmness and quietness of this place. This past weekend my friends and I decided to do the whole Midtown thing. Let me just say that after an hour or so of the crowds, the random fowl smells that float around bars, and getting stepped on and jabbed one too many times, I was ready for something a little more low key. Thanks goodness this place is right around the corner. You are pretty much always guaranteed a seat, the beer selection is pretty good, and the music is at a normal level. I believe they sell food, but I’m not sure. The clientele is a mixture of the typical Midtown crowd and some older people as well.

Thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I will definitely return. Tried this beer called«Purple Haze» and it was AMAZING. Our bartender was super friendly and very sociable. Even gave my friend some advice for a situation he was going through. Will come back for sure!

We have been here a couple of time and it was awesome … Love the vibe and jukebox is very good BUT on this past Saturday May 23, 2015 we had a horrible experience due to this one waitress… She had a horrible horrible attitude and rolled eyes a couple of time when asked for drink(if I’m not mistaken that is her job) so when we asked one last time she told us she couldn’t serve us because she wasn’t making money. I was stunned she had the nerve to say that… If she would have waited til we were done we were going to tip her a good amount … But after hearing her say that I was very upset … We quickly rounded up our gang and left to get good service somewhere else… I love the place but I will guarantee if we go back and she is there I will exit and go somewhere else quickly!!!

We have been to this place many times and never had a problem, until this past Saturday. We had a waitress that clearly did not want to be there. She rolled her eyes and gave us attitude when we asked for a round of drinks. She later vents to us how she has not been making any money tonight. With that crappy attitude, I don’t wonder why people don’t want to give you their money. We then closed out and went to another bar that deserved our money.

My wife and I have been going to Dog House for several years, and we love it! It’s much more relaxed than most other Midtown bars, and the daily drink specials are great. We love the flexibility of being able to grab food from Ponzo’s, Magic Wok, or Jimmy John’s. The only downside is that Ponzo’s isn’t open on Mondays during MNF, but the Dog House staff will still cook up a freezer pizza for you if you’re really in the mood. Greg, the owner and Jon Stewart look alike, is almost always around the bar somewhere, and there has been almost no turnover in staff in the years we’ve been customers. The friendly staff, paired with a host of regular customers, makes for a very familiar and comfortable atmosphere.

I’m one of the lucky few Houstonians who get to work 4−10s… but it comes with a price. Most places in H-town suck on a Thursday night. I used to have to stick to the latin scene to get my kicks because they were the only places popping on a weekday night… However, lately midtown has been pretty packed on Thursday the scene feels livelier then it would on Friday and Saturday(a little less packed, but much more comfortable). Dog House has been rowdy nearly every Thursday night I have come here so I got nothing to complain about.

Ah! One of my favorite dive bars and I love they allow you to order from the Pizzeria next door(pizza rolls!!) and still drink at their bar. Open very late, and they have a decent selection of beer, bourbon and whiskey.

Take this review with a grain of salt, as I am usually blacked out when I come. Given that this bar stands between my apt and the rest of midtown, I always have to stop and get one last drink on the way home. The bartenders and door guys are always super nice. The prices dirt cheap. And the crowd never pretenious. They even let you bring in ponzos or chinese from next door! Also, they have bottles of Mickeys for 2 dollars. I have no clue why this is always my drink of choice at 130 am.

Grabbed a drink at the end of the night on their patio. I walked inside to use the bathroom and that’s about it. They had cold beer and the waitress kept them coming. I’ll have to come back for a better look though.

It’s one of the strongest pours in midtown. Skip the beer here and go for a mixed drink. This is a good place to get the evening started as it shouldn’t be completely slammed and the prices are pretty reasonable. They also have darts for free and you can bring your own food in from wherever. There’s an Italian place next door that will bring your order over as well. Once the Italian place closes they usually fire up their small pizza over and cook up CPK pizzas which are quite amazing after a few hours of their stout cocktails. Parking used to be a huge hassle here but now they have someone watching the lot. So don’t park here and run off down the street, you will get towed. As long as you’re going into the Doghouse you’re good. The specials during the week are usually pretty good but I usually only make it in on Friday nights. It’s a good place where you can actually grab a table and have a conversation with your friends.
