Despite being able to overhear Liverpool’s latest break up– live in action and the atmosphere really mimicked the stuff you see on Coronation street, or Eastenders, the food was great and at the end of the day, a beers a beer. They have plenty of options in regards to beers on tap, and from what we could see, and average selection of bottled beer. There were a few kids running about, but that just proves this place is family friendly. Location wise this place is great, and as a tourist I’d say you’d need to do a meal and pint here, it’s also a great way to see what the people/locals to Liverpool are really like.

I wasn’t expecting much from the Fiveways. Situated at the hub of five roads means its constantly throbbing to the noise of traffic hurtling around it. I was bracing myself for a tacky, packed den of bustle and beer spills. In some ways, I wasn’t far wrong. Although dark and noisy in the way that only Wetherspoons pubs are, the Fiveways was still not as horrific as I’d been led to believe. I won’t be dashing along there any time soon but considering it’s a chain pub squatting on a roundabout like a tramp caught short, it’s not as horrible as that simile.

I’m not quite sure were one of our other reviewers has got her information from but the Childwall Fiveways has been open for donkey’s years! It is a very busy establishment which has built up a steady roster of regular drinkers but attracts many others passing by one of the main traffic thoroughfares. Because of this the venue doesn’t have the feel of a local pub, it is big and spacious and decorated in a traditional British pub style but being sat on the main routes through the city — basically it’s on a massive roundabout — it almost feels like a place to stop to refuel on the way elsewhere. This does have its plus points as the food, while basic, is served quickly in my experience, just don’t expect home cooking.

Childwall Fiveways Hotel is fairly new, having opened in February this year. I quite liked it, there are books on shelves, which I like, and a busy feel to it, with a range of age groups eating, drinking and chatting. The pub is pretty spacious with an area at the back of the pub open and covered areas to eat and drink outside. Unfortunately, I went on a day when it was a little too cold to sit outside but I could imagine it being really pleasant. I wasn’t stuck for parking that was for sure, there is a lot, although I guess when it get’s busy busy it could be a problem. The pub has a number of offers on including curry club, steak club and sunday club where you get a free drink. It might not sound a lot but well it makes a little difference.

This Wetherspoons pub is smaller than you would expect from the outside, the décor is very old-fashioned as most Wetherspoons are –it almost feels like a library. The food and drinks are as you would expect, the new menu which came in late April has some excellent new dishes. The staff weren’t exactly rude in here but they weren’t accommodating either. It took around five minutes to get served, even though there were only around three customers at the time. The food arrived really quickly, which is a bonus if you’re in a rush but sometimes it can be a little too quick if you get my drift. Also my Reggae Reggae chicken wrap was cold — unsure if it was supposed to be. I imagine it would be a bit livelier at night or in the evening, but I don’t recommend it for lunches. Maybe I’ll try it again another day and hope that it was just a one off.
