Loafers sandwich bar One night at the Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese I walked out and almost fell through the door of loafers sandwich bar. I remember saying to my drinking buddy. ‘I love little independent shops like this. I will come back for lunch one day soon’. I did. The day I did I could not chose from the selected mixed fillings bowls, nothing on the hot food or cold sandwich filing menu board above head height caught my fancy so I thought. ‘Let’s give Loafers a challenge’. I will go for my favourite rich sandwich combo. This is Prawn Mayo, avocado and bacon on Ciabatta bread. An awesome king of a sandwich which if you haven’t tried, you haven’t lived. The chalkboard said they were Norwegian prawns. Why should that matter to me? Should I try to or avoid talking to them in Norge? Do they grow with mayo inside them or is that only Irish Prawns? Anyway I took my filled bag onto the last man who takes the money. He was very chatty and lovely. I could have spoken to him for at least 5 minutes. This was despite that he informed me my sandwich was £4.80. I mean £4.80 for a sandwich?!? That meant I could not afford a drink or a snack. After the wonderful personal service that I received and I could see that others do too, I left to return to work and eat a sandwich at the desk. There is no space to sit in Loafers at all. Then it all went wrong. The packaging had made the sandwich look huge. I had been asked if I wanted butter and had replied ‘a little bit’. I could taste mostly butter and ciabatta bread. £4.80 for a butter sandwich. That is dreadful. I am gutted. I hope this was a one off and someone else can post a better review because I do love shops like this, but I won’t be back for a while, if ever. £4.80 is too much for a sandwich whilst mostly tastes of butter. I am sorry Loafers, but you didn’t cut the mustard with me.
