Second stop on our tour of Canmore. Stopped in for a cocktail and an appatizer. Word on the street is this is often the last bar going on any given night. To out dismay… after parusing the menu, we noticed the special was deep fried pickles. We promptly ordered a plate to go with our drinks. About 10minutes layer… a second waitress arrived to inform us that«the pickles just aren’t working out today». Now I appreciate the honesty… but how does a dish just not work out? Thus…we finished our drinks… and moved along.

Surprisingly good after I read a few reviews! We got there during late afternoon so it wasn’t too busy. It’s a typical pub but comfortable. Lots of seating available. The waitress was very attentive and quite chatty. The food overall was pretty good! My steak sandwich was a bit small, but regarding the price it was okay, and cooked perfect. The lamp just fell off the bone because it was so soft. The burger looked good and the fries were tasty. Good hearty food after skiing. The prices are reasonable. I would totally go there again!

It was Canadian Thanksgiving Day. We(two Yanks and a Korean) were on the way back from Golden. We were tired, and HANGRY. We drove around Canmore but everything of course was closed for the holidays. But then we see this pub on re corner and a parking lot full of cars and Harleys. By Scott, it’s open! So we walk in and not only is it open, but they are showing the Toronto v Texas playoff game. For the record, I’m not a Blue Jays Fan but is rather pick the Jays than stupid Texas. But I digress. The beer was flowing and the waitress busy with the crowds. I had a Rose & Crown burger which was huge. Friend had a veggie burger. My wife had a warm goat cheese salad. I was skeptical about a decent salad in a pub but even I – self avowed carnivore — thought it was good. All the players were huge American-like portions and pretty tasty for pub grub. The staff were all very friendly(love the tartan skirt uniforms). I’m surprised at the lackluster reviews because we found it to be a nice pleasant locals bar. It’s a decent pub for what it is. Nothing more or less. A warning for men: if you are offended by the sight of naked women, don’t use the men’s washroom. Ladies: if your man is taking a long time in the washroom, now you know why.

Worst place ever. Owner of the bar(and very vocal about that), was so drunk and literally picking fights with anyone who was not a local. Feel sorry for the bartenders who seemed to have to remove tons of people after the owner started picking fights. Brutal store, disrespectful power tripping owner, give your money to another restaurant/pub.

Wing Wednesday is the way to go, after 4pm 10 wings for $ 4 and the choices of Salt and pepper which 5⁄5 and teriyaki 3.5÷5 and honey garlic 4⁄5 and lemon pepper 4⁄5 and homemade BBQ2.5÷5 and sweet chilli 4⁄5 and woody’s fire 4⁄5 but the hot was a little lame to be honest. Sit outside and enjoy the view with beer and great conversation

Is she fancy? no. Is the food amazing? no. Is she a good spot to gather with friend over a beverage or two(or more)? You betcha. The food is alright, I never had any issues with it. It is pretty much your standard pub fare. The service was alright too. All in all this is a great spot to get together with friends after a day on the slopes or hiking the mountains, or just to sit out on the patio and take in the crazy scenery.

We visited this place in mid September 2012. We used to count on the Rose and Crown for a reliable, tasty basic hamburger meal. Boy were we disappointed! Our hamburgers were overdone, had a black crunchy exterior and were served lukewarm. The buns were so dry they clinked when tapped with a knife. The service was lousy. Our waitress couldn’t remember our order and had to check back with us twice. She seemed to be more interested in chatting with single males in the pub than in filling our order. All in all a most disappointing experience.

We love this place. The portions are huge, the service fabulous and they are family friendly. Every time we are in Canmore we stop in for a bite. The Jalapeño Baked Cheddar Soup is fabulous and one of my favourite things to order. Hubs always tries something different… fish & chips(yummy), burgers have been very tasty, steak sandwiches(no complaints). The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone. A tavern style pub, wood finished inside & warm that combines«traditional English fare with new world flair.» As long as they keep making delicious soup, I’ll keep coming back.
